Agree - get the degree and do a grad year. These kids can’t help themselves now because when they committed 3+ years ago the money was a joke. It all changed very quickly and they see guys like Knox and Bassett getting 7 figures without even stepping on the mat yet. I have a feeling the wrestling money isn’t sustainable because a lot of money will be tied up in wrestlers for 5 years meaning most programs can’t break the bank every year. How many more 7 figure wrestlers can VT bring in every year with Bassett, MM, Konopka, etc. still on the payroll?
Sounds like an issue with Grey and not $. What'd Grey do? I'd still stay for the last year and Cornell degree.

I don't get the hype with Grey. Grey inherited a fantastic program from Rob Koll. He rode the coattails of everything he built in addition to being in the Ivy. It helped to have two generational talents already on the team with Yanni and Arujau, whom draw a lot of recruiting interest. It didn't take Dake long to figure out he'd go nowhere with Grey as his coach. What's Grey really done since? We're now at the point that we're seeing his recruits coming in. If Yanni or Vito weren't there, then the recruiting would take a major turn. Yanni might take the job there, but if he goes elsewhere I don't expect big thing for Cornell for a long time.

We should try to add Yianni to our staff if he's moving to coaching.

Probably bc guys like Nashon and Yianni give grey all the credit for them being ncaa champs. Hes an elite asst coach, he’s great on the mat and working with guys but clearly is lacking something when it comes to being a head coach…

Dake left bc of how cornell acted during Covid it had 0 percent to do with grey same with max dean. Cornell was randomly picking up covid positive kids in a white van and forcing them into an isolation hotel/ apartment and telling them they weren’t permitted to leave or go home to their families until they tested negative

Grey just became the head coach in 2021, the guy is like 37-38. Unless forced out, how long is Yanni going to wait, 15 to 20 yrs?
He’s probably 40-41 now and not every guy wants to coach until they are 60 . He has little kids he may just want to be a head coach for a few more years until they are older plus yianni hasn’t retired from competing and had talked in the past about wrestling until his mid 30s

Lot's of speculation there. No one knows how long Grey wants to coach and things change constantly. Yianni is pretty close to being done competing, if not actually done, with all his extensive injuries. He may try 1 more for 2028 but I can't see him going beyond that. It sucks his body is so beaten up.
