Agree - get the degree and do a grad year. These kids can’t help themselves now because when they committed 3+ years ago the money was a joke. It all changed very quickly and they see guys like Knox and Bassett getting 7 figures without even stepping on the mat yet. I have a feeling the wrestling money isn’t sustainable because a lot of money will be tied up in wrestlers for 5 years meaning most programs can’t break the bank every year. How many more 7 figure wrestlers can VT bring in every year with Bassett, MM, Konopka, etc. still on the payroll?
Sounds like an issue with Grey and not $. What'd Grey do? I'd still stay for the last year and Cornell degree.

I don't get the hype with Grey. Grey inherited a fantastic program from Rob Koll. He rode the coattails of everything he built in addition to being in the Ivy. It helped to have two generational talents already on the team with Yanni and Arujau, whom draw a lot of recruiting interest. It didn't take Dake long to figure out he'd go nowhere with Grey as his coach. What's Grey really done since? We're now at the point that we're seeing his recruits coming in. If Yanni or Vito weren't there, then the recruiting would take a major turn. Yanni might take the job there, but if he goes elsewhere I don't expect big thing for Cornell for a long time.

We should try to add Yianni to our staff if he's moving to coaching.

Probably bc guys like Nashon and Yianni give grey all the credit for them being ncaa champs. Hes an elite asst coach, he’s great on the mat and working with guys but clearly is lacking something when it comes to being a head coach…

Dake left bc of how cornell acted during Covid it had 0 percent to do with grey same with max dean. Cornell was randomly picking up covid positive kids in a white van and forcing them into an isolation hotel/ apartment and telling them they weren’t permitted to leave or go home to their families until they tested negative

Grey just became the head coach in 2021, the guy is like 37-38. Unless forced out, how long is Yanni going to wait, 15 to 20 yrs?
He’s probably 40-41 now and not every guy wants to coach until they are 60 . He has little kids he may just want to be a head coach for a few more years until they are older plus yianni hasn’t retired from competing and had talked in the past about wrestling until his mid 30s

Lot's of speculation there. No one knows how long Grey wants to coach and things change constantly. Yianni is pretty close to being done competing, if not actually done, with all his extensive injuries. He may try 1 more for 2028 but I can't see him going beyond that. It sucks his body is so beaten up.

Yup just saw. This is a great get. 3 years of eligibility, international experience, and trained with Bastida. Has AA potential imo.
Following up what do you guys still want us to address? Heavyweight was the biggest need but I think 133 is necessary. Maybe a guy at 49 as well? Not sure if younger harer is red shirting but I’d feel fine with him at 141.

125 - Knox
133 - Transfer
141- Brandt Harer
149 - Nini/Transfer
157 - Conner Harer
165 - Barbosa
174 - Ford/Chapman
184 - SCW
197 - Cotton
285 - Herrera

Pretty solid dual team imo. 133 needs to be addressed though.

Scoring points at nationals. Knox should be a title contending freshman type right off the bat.. Team is young, and there will be question marks, hopefully everyone jumps lvls RU need to get it done in March.

Wonder how much bag he got. The Hwt field clears a lot so def could see the potential. Herrera probably the highest upside hwt in portal except for maybe Neves.

149 through 184 could stand some competition.
How many NCAA wins do those weights have?
Focus on anyone that can score points in the NCAA.
If RU has money to spend, 133,165 or 174 is where i would focus.

I am excited to see Conner H., I want someone who can score points on top. Hopefully his bottom game improved.
Have Ashnault ride him and tell him he can stop practicing when he gets out.

Yes, looks strong, but we think that every year. I'm still thinking Gibson could be good at 133. It would be nice if someone in the know would tell us if he's targeting that weight. Gibson was strong while in HS; about on the level of McGowen, or at least had a close OT loss to him. With Ashnault and Knox there, I hope it will benefit Gibson. Harer needs to start, not redshirt. I expect that he and his brother want to have as many years competing together as possible. Hmmm, will Parkins enter the portal? Will Nini stay healthy long enough to start? Have we given up on Magro? Unless Chapman comes alive, 174 might be a weak spot. Better work hard developing Reyes and Bajoras so we have backups at 197 and 285.
I just saw that Rhett Washleski is coming in. Another room guy?

I would go more need

#1-133 we simply can't go with what's in the room to start

#2-149 could stomach the guys in the room but really need an upgrade

#3-174 If Ford comes back bulked up would like to see what he could do.

Great pick-up. Fills are biggest need.

Will feel better when the time period to enter the portal closes. As Mytych was responsible for most of the Pa. commits, hope he doesn't influence any of them to test the waters.

If RU has any money left, obvious home runs would be Tyler Knox , Crookham some good value pickups at 33 could be Ungar, Rivera, maybe even Sakamoto could be a sleeper. Gibson needs to go 133 regardless even if we don’t land anyone. He was giving up way too much size at 141 and I do still think Gibson could be a NQ at 133.

Think RU is good at 165 w Barbosa unless he goes to 174.. Barbosa had bad nationals but showed big potential beating Blaze.. 174 Ford showed potential I think he can be a NQ too.. if RU still got money to spend, Shubert was R12 this year and Norman showed flashes he can beat top guys so upside is there w those two.

Actually 141/149 could be question marks depending if Brandt RS(I think he should wrestle). And how good Nini is.

I am really high on Herrera.Kid is a beast.super aggressive, great gas tank and has a huge upside.see him a as a multiple time AA here. Also, dont sleep on Magro.
Wow, Crackers a multiple time AA prediction for Herrera.. be honest, would you have predicted that if Herrera never transferred or transferred elsewhere? I mean I hope you are right(also I love the nickname P’NUT)… bold prediction. No offense, but Magro was the #32 prospect and Parkins #29 and was hoping they could be the freshmans that contend for NQ right away.. and rn it’s question marks if they both will even start at 141(Harer?) and 149(Nini?). I hope you are right Crackers as 149 is viewed currently as a more question marks weight. Who will step up and claim the spot.

I talked to Brandt Harer and he said he’s going 149 and plans on going out of the gate.

Interesting. I would’ve thought he’d go 141. Not sure what the plan is for that weight. Although both Harer bros going back to back is pretty cool.
He looked pretty big tbh so not too surprised he goes 149.. same weight Ash won a title.. 141 still has Parkins(maybe Gibson?).. would 141 be too much of a cut for Nini/Magro?

Can Brandt Harer beat Nini? Can either make 141? Do we expect anyone else to enter the portal?

If Brandt can’t beat Nini(unless Nini is a sleeping monster?)for 149 spot then that would be alarming… I remember when we got Aragona(#6p4p) and he was barely able to win the starting spot… everyone was saying he’s young, just room familiarity, he’s young don’t worry… and after his freshman season I was thinking he’s fell short of expectations but I hope he doesn’t become a bust..

Nini was 10-7 his freshman year at 141.. so if Brandt goes 149 it makes sense Nini/Parkins(maybe Gibson again if we portal in a 33?) wrestle for 141.

If you've been on this board long enough , I think you would have seen my my criticism of campolatano and mario mason. I was not thrilled bringing them in. I thought they were damaged goods. I got throttled for that , and yet here we are. I see a lot of potential in his heavyweight.Regardless of his transfer to hear or anywhere else. The kid is very tough and physical. I think if labs can slow him down a little bit and work on his technique and positioning , the kid could be a serious all american threat. I love what I see from magro. He just has that it factor.

There were 3 indicator/wrestle off matches between Aragona and Lipari that year. Lipari was a returning NQ. Aragona won all 3 matches and it wasn’t close. He was never a thought to not start

Brian Swaw tweeted out this morning that we hosted Greyson Clark, Brent Ungar, and Ben Vanadia on visits. He says that we are expecting visits from Tom Crook and Anthony Santaniello as well. I think Ungar would be a good get for 133 but looks like we are also looking for a 141 as well. Brandt going 149 seems likely. Who would you guys prefer out of those 141 guys?
