You do realize that all but two players did not sign a contract beyond this year.

This CBA was in the works long before the world knew who was Caitlin.

(This is where you all tell me I am stupid and the league is only one person.)
I don’t think anyone seriously disputes the new cba was going to be better than the status quo even if cc never happened, it just wasn’t going to be 4x to 5x better.

Caitlin's the biggest star in the league but this is a disingenuous comparison.

That Fever exhibition game was in the middle of May with no other sports competition on tv. Game 2 of the WNBA Finals was going against Sunday Night Football.
Query: if it’s such an easy way to print money why has no other team done it or planning to do it?

Usually they do them every 4 years or so and the last one was 2020 where they increased the salary cap by 30%, introduced the Supermax, and established revenue sharing.

But ya, right after Clark came into the league.
I think you’re missing his point. This is the most the players have ever been organized partly because they have never had more eyes on them. They have been forced to take what they’re given, but this new era of women stars are going to stand up and fight. Again, because viewers.

Then they should have said that. They implied they've never organized at all.

Kind of piggybacking off this idea, but does anyone think the new deal for the WNBA might influence JuJu's decision to not use her redshirt year and turn pro after the 26/27 season?
Just curious because she'll likely threaten CC's scoring record.

I really don't think she will. You have to remember since her injury USC has brought Jazzy, (the #1 recruit in her class) will add another #1 player this next season. Their roster is totally different then the one Juju played on. She's coming back from an ACL to a TOTALLY different team with two other number one recruits and a couple of top 5 classes. The dynamic will be totally different, I I doubt they're all going to stand around and watch Juju score 35 a game, and not be way more involved then the very young team Juju played on before. If anyone is going to make a run at the record i'd watch out for Mikala Blakes at Vanderbilt, but she's got a long ways to go given Clark averaged basically 30points a game the last 2 seasons.

Will that make it profitable or break even?

They have been profitable for years, just had a negative cash flow as a league. Like any pro league, some teams make money from year to year, some don't. George Steinbrenner regularly had a negative cash flow from the New York Yankees.

The Mohegan Tribe paid 10 million for the Connecticut Sun. They just sold the team for 300 million.

Mark Davis bought the Aces for 2 million in 2021. He would get more for the Aces than the Sun went for. That's like a 15,000% equity increase in 5 years.

The Sparks are spending 150 million on a practice facility.

The last three expansion fees were reported at 250 million.

Nobody is spending that kind of money if there is no return.

This was a couple of years ago.

It will be interesting to see if the Fever will only go with 11 players this year. They have a 7M cap. If they are getting the band back together, it could look something like this:
  1. Kelsey is getting 1.4M
  2. I think Boston will be getting 1.19M
  3. Timpson gets 277K
  4. Caitlin gets 528K.
  5. Hull probably 750K
  6. Cunningham probably 675K
  7. Dantas is rumored to be signing this weekend - I imagine she will be around 500K.
  8. Rookie 1 270K (Latson or Johnson from SC?)
  9. Rookie 2 270K (Brown from MSU?)
  10. Rookie 3 270K (Hanna Stuelke?)
  11. That would leave about 868K. No point in getting two mediocre players for that amount. If they could sign Monique Billings, that would be awesome as I really like her chemistry with Caitlin on Team USA. That is probably a pipe dream though.

Well you're 1/1. Mitchell just signed a 1 year supermax for 1.4 million.

Most rookies arent ready to play right away and Timpson averaged 7 minutes a game last season. They're going to need at least one more experienced "big" along with one or two other veterans to fill out the roster.

Right. Dantas and then a free agent to be named. To get a big name they might have to say goodbye to Sophie and then sign a stiff.

Is a pretty strong rotation. Get a back up guard that can make threes and run the show when CC is on the bench and I think they'll be in good shape.

You feel like they should have upgraded at the 3?Lexie is a warrior but just not sure about her talent and size for the 3. just wondering…

Hull plays good enough defense, does the little things, and seems content to be the 4th or 5th scoring option. I think her and Sophie (assuming she comes back) are good enough to fill that fifth banana role when they are on the court.

Also with KM getting the max and Billings supposedly on the way, idk if the Fever could have afforded to bring in an upgrade for Lexie.
