Sounds like Cincy is putting on the full court press for his services. He was asking for $3M.
What’s the cap on compensation? At some point this has to be addressed.

If there’s no limit, spending will keep rising. The programs with the most money will pull further ahead, and smaller schools won’t be able to compete for top talent. That gap already exists, but this only speeds it up and makes it more obvious.

This isn’t creating imbalance from nothing. It’s removing the last restraints on a system that already favors the biggest programs. Left unchecked, it turns college sports into a clear tier system where only a handful of schools can realistically compete.

* Brett Decker Jr. (Guard, Liberty): A high-level shooter who made 47.1% of his threes last season. Iowa is currently in contact and hoping to secure a visit.
* Isaiah Johnson (Guard, Colorado): A standout freshman who averaged 16.9 points and 3.0 assists. Iowa is competing with several West Coast programs for his multiple years of eligibility.

* Kenzie Hare (Guard, Iowa State): A veteran sharpshooter scheduled to visit Iowa this week to potentially fill a much-needed outside shooting role.
* Amari Whiting (Guard, Oklahoma State): Expected to visit Iowa soon.
* Ellie Brueggemann (Guard, Lindenwood): Another backcourt depth option scheduled for a visit. [5, 6]

#21, who makes the shot in the video below, is 6'3" guard Ace Glass.

Iowa is reportedly showing strong interest, with plans to get him on campus quickly.

This season he averaged 29 min, 16.4 pts, 2.3 assists, 3 rebs.

He shot 46% overall and 36% from three.

He has 3 years left.

So your comment is basically, Instead of scoring, spreading the court, and creating opportunities for others, I don't know what this person brings?
Brendan played some decent D' in a couple of games, mid season. If Brendan was better than Howard, who doesn't shoot the 3 well, you don't think Ben would have had him out there? Brendan played anywhere from a few minutes per game to 20. Very inconsistent depending on the opponent.

Thanks. I think. I didn't see anything illogical about it but I welcome your opinion. :)

Decker appears to be more athletic than Brendan and can get in the paint when he wants. I would guess due to his athleticism he is a better defensive player. Not to mention he seems to be a better scorer. That's all I was trying to imply when I said Brendan can't do anything Decker can but shoot 3's.

Why can’t Jacob Koch just become a student manager? He still is a part of the team and travels with them. He’s taking up a valuable roster spot
Well this is what I have for a roster for 2026 so far maybe Im wrong. I think we have enough spots now even if Banks gets to stay.
This will be a really solid roster if we get the right portal pick ups.

  • Cam Manyawu | Forward | Sr | 6'9", 250 lbs
  • Peyton McCollum | Guard | So | 6'2", 180 lbs
  • Tavion Banks | Guard/Forward | Sr | 6'7", 215 lbs
  • Cooper Koch | Forward | So | 6'8", 220 lbs
  • Jacob Koch | Guard | Jr | 6'2", 185 lbs
  • Kael Combs | Guard | Sr | 6'4", 205 lbs
  • Trey Thompson | Forward | RS Fr | 6'8", 220 lbs
  • Isaia Howard | Guard | Jr | 6'5", 215 lbs
  • Tate Sage | Guard | So | 6'7", 210 lbs
  • Trevin Jirak | Center | So | 6'11", 250 lbs
  • Joey Matteoni | Forward | So | 6'9", 220 lbs
  • Jaidyn Coon | Guard | Fr | 6'6", 180 lbs

Don't worry too much about roster spots 11-15, Ben doesn't and shouldn't play that many anyway yet you need it for practice, depth and development. Banks prob won't get the extra year thus Joey, Peyton, Jacob won't hardly ever see floor either. Jirak would be next for least minutes and I'd be surprised us to go beyond 8-9 in most B10 games. Portal PG, Portal SG/F with Folgy leaving and of course Portal C.

Harris and Trey will take Folgy's spot and incoming PF/F Coon can play 2-4 positions.

Isaac averaged 21 pts, 5 rebs and 1.3 assists this season for South Dakota.

Good find, there's a lot of good ballplayers out there not asking 7 figures and would be great fits at Iowa culturally who want to work, improve and succeed. Lots of parallels to hiring in the professional world, I'd say 80%+ of my hires are the best culture and team fits and I figure out the tech stuff later. It's hard to unwind and rewire people to act, think and interact differently -- attitude and effort are the two things I've learned you have complete control over in life and sports...:)

That old expression really does apply to all aspects of life: There are 2 things you can control; your attitude and your effort.

Just what are you going to pay the 3 returning players that are starters? A C and PG will probably cost $5M and up.

It does make you wonder what Cooper, Cam, and Kael (starters this year) will be getting next season.

And then you had Tate & Howie, the 2 key contributors who came off the bench. What will those 2 make?

I wish this were all public; I think any minds that were not already blown would now be blown. :)

So you want to spend less on starters so we can pay more on DNP-CD's?

Brilliant
That's not what they were saying..and we don't have anyone on the roster that is 1 mil+ right now and guys from Isaia howard on down in the depth chart wont cost much. It'd probably be around 8.5-9 million so we would still have a million to spend on another player in the portal if matteoni/koch or someone else leaves. It wouldn't be a bad idea to have Koch be a student manager so another spot could be open if the staff has money left over for a player they like.

It you scroll to the top of this page you will see 5 total stories. 2 of the 5 stories are on 2 players that Iowa has been linked to:

(1) North Carolina 6'2" guard Kyan Evans

(2) St Mary's 7'2" center Andrew McKeever

Considering Iowa is projected to spend 10-12 million I think they already have the cash!
I think there is a very small circle of people inside the university that truly knows that number. Part of that is profit sharing, probably 15% of the $20.5 M cap. So that means the collective and other donors make up the balance. Do we really have $7M to $9M more?
