Why doesn’t the NBA just up the rookie contracts? At some point we hit the top of college budgets and it prevents these blue bloods from stacking the decks.
I never understood why the NBA would gamble on the potential of a young player. Give him a huge rookie contract, then if the kid actually reaches his potential he leaves for bigger money and market when his rookie deal is done.
That would likely help. However, there are some really good college players who know they are not likely going to the NBA. For those players, they no doubt want to maximize the amount of money they can make while in college. So, yes, I agree the rich are absolutely able to stack the deck in our current environment. The only thing that seems to help is roster limits -they can't take them all so they are limited to only being able to buy the very best.
So it sounds like Michigan is the NY Yankees and Iowa is the Milwaukee Brewers of college athletics….the only thing that may save us is a salary cap, but not sure how that would get enforced.

I think this benefits the nba. Kids stay in school longer so the nba gets a better idea of what they are getting.
The shame isn't that players are being paid. That was long overdue given the amount of money they--the players--generate for everyone else. The shame is that the NCAA refused to accept that reality, and so the inevitable happened with virtually no rules or rationale, so we have anarchy. I've long supported paying players, but not in these amounts, and not in this environment. The pendulum had to swing, but thanks to the NCAA's greed and foolishness, that pendulum has flown off its anchor.
Only thing ncaa can do is tighten transferring.

Honestly, I’d cap it at 10-15% increase. I’d also limit transfers to a max of 2(with the exception a coach leaves).
NCAA would need some type of collective or global agreement in order to withstand legal challenge. Freedom of movement is the twin sister of compensation.
I'm definately in favor of some kind of salary cap for the team otherwise we just don't have a very level playing field. I'm also in favor of limiting transfers to 2 (maybe 1) unless a coach leaves.

Iowa’s whole budget is like 10-12. This is how it will wreck smaller schools in a hurry. I’d say all the schools who cannot afford this lunacy just form a collective and stop playing the schools that want to monopolize the talented players so they can buy championships.
Who is running this organization? Courts or the NCCA. Maybe the activist judges should just apply for job with the NCCA since they determine how to run the business.

I said awhile ago that this would quickly start affecting the league when college players didn't need to come out early to start getting paid more then rookies. Some laughed....
An increase cap will NEVER fly. The courts have already made that perfectly clear. I do think they can enforce the number of times a player can transfer and still be immediately eligible though..
