I don’t think UConn can beat either Arizona or Michigan. But I didn’t think they would beat Michigan State, Duke or Illinois. So they’ll probably back into another title. I don’t like it but it’s better than Duke, UNC, Louisville, Indiana or Kansas winning a title.
How so? Yes, we hate all those teams. But IU hasn't been relevant in decades. UofL would suck but they aren't a threat to our title lead. Neither is KU. UNC would also suck, but they've been trending down. Duke would suck, but it would only give them 6.

UConn will have SEVEN if they win.

If they win it all it will be just about the worst thing that could've happened.

Logically? Yes. They haven't done so in a decade. UConn is now on the doorstep of winning 3 in 4 years and being the "cool" school. They're robbing the blue bloods and I'll say it....BBN has been lazy about it.

We should be livid right now.
We may be livid as heck but that means absolutely nothing to stud players today. We have not been a school that means anything to today's players. We are looked at by kids like Vandy, Tennessee, Louisville, Indiana, and hell maybe like Clemson and VT. In the eyes of today's high school seniors we are crappy place to play. Actually the only reason Pope may be able to be competitive next year is our NIL. Sad that we have to buy a team and can't get kids excited to play for BBN. Just damn SAD! It is really not the same cheering for a bought team than the teams in the past 15 ears that came here because we are KY.

The sour grapes on here about uconn just shows how far this program has fallen. How about hiring a coach on Hurley's level
How many of those exist? Golden MIGHT be. Lloyd MIGHT be. But he's staying at Arizona.

So who's left that is that good? Donovan would be highly unproven in the new era but might work out. Otz at ISU seems to be decent but he's apparently a UNC interest or turned them down.

The guy at Vandy seems sharp but is pretty unproven.

That leaves you Oats- who even UNC is not interested in. Pearl? Maybe but again, UNC doesn't seem to be interested nor does he seem to be lobbying for it. . So......is he done?

I refuse to believe this job isnt coveted. Its one of the blue blood jobs. The longer Pope is here the longer we suffer as a program. Sorry Mark.

Not good enough, cut ties now and be a serious program
One, we probably can't afford it if we're being honest. We're still paying Stoops and we JUST hired a new FB coach.

Two, I think you have to see what Pope is able to get in the portal. Because that opens in 3 days. We're not finding a new coach in 72 hours. Very unlikely. And having NO coach and open portal would be a terrible combo.

Three, UNC is open. It's a TERRIBLE time to go coach shopping as a blue blood.

You can believe it all you want....UNC is supposedly having troubles as well.

The days of landing a big name coach from other big schools is over. NIL has made it where you can go win a title ANYWHERE if your skilled enough.

Then we will sit and take the mediocrity

I'll take MIGHT over whatever slop the heck Pope will serve us. You know it will be the equivalent of cafeteria food: edible but barely so

If our AD had any brains we'd fire Pope now and look at Oats, May, Lloyd, Otz, Pearl, Biting

Don't tell me the latter two wouldn't craw o er glass to come here.
May is not coming here. He's in a low pressure well paying job at UM and is about to compete for a title. And they have WAAAAY more money than we do.

Oats might. But UNC isn't looking at him apparently due to off court issues....so......

Lloyd JUST signed an extension at Zona. Get real!

Pearl has been quiet and again doesn't seem to be crawling back to basketball to apply at UNC.

Otz MIGHT be an option, but he's either being courted by UNC or turned them down entirely depending on reports. So, if he's turning own UNC what's our pitch?

Why worry about losing a rung? No serious UK fan says this. Come on man.
If you read the thread, some are worried that UConn would have 7 titles. Who gives a shvt how Many anyone other than us have. 8 looking for 9 is ALL that should matter. Hell with how many UConn, Duke, UNC, Kansas or even Indiana have. We have 8 and are looking to get #9.

They are trending up. We are trending down. It's called momentum.

Well, Lloyd just signed an extension at Zona so....not happening. And Golden isn't leaving UF yet it seems. Doubt he goes anywhere except pros.

This is the same bad excuse that yall made to keep Cal for 5 years too long. It wasntvthat we couldnt findxa ciach its that our AD did nothing but put his money on Drew and then panic hired Pope. We could be in year 4-5 with a real coach like May, Pearl, Oats, Otz

If Hurley, Oats and Golden aren’t the first 3 and only 3 to be offered the UK job by the new AD then he should be fired on the spot. I don’t care what has to be done or offered but one of those 3 have to be the next guy here. They are our best chance to end this nightmare. Everyone else will be another roll of the dice.

Hurley was offered God level money supposedly. The answer was no. So, that's no happening. Why would I leave a job where I potentially win the title 3 our of 4 years to come? There's no selling point. Remember, our history has less weight in the NIL era.

Golden should be on that list. For sure.

Oats I'm not as wild about. He's slipped a smidge in the last couple of years and you have the off court baggage. Remember...spotlight and microscope are bigger than they would be at Bama.
