There is little doubt who our best pitcher is. So I pose the question to the group. Do we stay the course or do we adjust the rotation? I love Glauber in the role we have him now. Would we be better off moving Glauber to Friday, Decaro to Saturday, and Lynch into Glauber’s roll? Again, this is just a question for discussion amongst the board. Not suggesting we do this.

Out of curiousity, have you listened to Forbes and their mindset/thought process on the rotation? All of the convos he has had with us, but also the postgames?

Not saying what you are suggesting is wrong, but they've pretty much laid out the 'why' things are as they are now.....

Glauber is basically in the Pence 2024 role now....which - and I assume most everyone here watched that season play out and how Dalton was used and how importat he was and as Forbes said "was our best pitcher that season".

DeCaro has struggled with command at times yes...definitely struggled tonight...but his ERA is 2.20 and he's 5-1. ...... if that guy showed up against Carolina with those basic stats, some folks on this board would say Carolina had no chance. And conversely, if someone showed up with higher ERA, we'd hear about how Carolina can't hit and all that noise if Carolina didn't run rule someone.......Lynch is sitting at 4.50.

I think Forbes and his staff from following them closely and watching for years are pretty open to change. I also think they understand that once you start starting Glauber, you lose him for the two other games of the series and that's at play here. Though, the emergence of Jackson Rose could be important x factor in all this.

I like the freshman right where he is . Everyone wants to talk about starting pitching as it's very important but if you can get better pitching on the back end of two games a weekend instead of one start a weekend it will help the team more in my opinion. I know he is toast today because of Decaro being sick and not able to go long but keep him where he is in my opinion. If Boaz is bad again today let's try Jackson Rose . He was brilliant vs Campbell and as well all know have have discovered lefty's can be hard to hit lol .

i totally agree. I love Folger but the Sunday games scare me especially when we haven’t taken the series yet. I wouldn’t mind seeing Rose get a start.

Maybe our defence helps out Folger as much as they have for DeCaro and Lynch, instead of a pop fly that should have been caught and gotten Folger out of that inning in South Bend!!

That misjudged / lost pop-up didn't contribute to the other 4 runs he allowed in just 2.1 IP.

THIS ... 100% ... Coach Forbes offers so much insight and information ... more folks need to LISTEN to him ...

Scott mentioned in the postgame Thursday night that Lynch is struggling to throw his slider, which was a devastating out pitch for him last year. Without that pitch working properly, he wouldn't be nearly as effective as last year pitching in relief. Hopefully he and the staff can figure out what is different about how he is throwing it this year.

Forbes seemed much, much more open to moving Glauber into the starting rotation in the postgame yesterday.
Agreed. I think the realization is setting in that Glauber is his #1 horse. If he was our third best pitcher I can see the argument for him being more valuable out of the bullpen. But if he’s our best….

I think we’re ok if we get 4 from folger, 2 from rose, 1-2 from Seagraves and 1-2 from Matty
Yup - I posted that I thought Glober may get moved sooner rather than later in another thread early this morning after hearing Forbes post-game last night. I "heard" the same thing. Add on that Duff came on and looked good for three days straight, and IMO that adds more weight to the argument to move Globe to a starter role, as the pen can work well fine without him.

Will be interesting to see what happens down the road. I though Boaz pitched a bit better today despite the same results (mostly the fault of the Hargett error, and yes, that is an error) so that may hold any movement up. If Boaz really struggled again today, I would definitely lean toward Globe moving out of the pen next week, but that didn't happen. Honestly great problems to have.

I thought Boaz threw well. I have one question and if Tommy reads these threads I would love for him to ask coach Forbes about when Seagraves came in it seemed he pitched around the righty who was up and then went after the lefty and if they where going to do that why not leave Boaz in walk the righty and then let Boaz face the lefty ?

Clearly seemed to be their approach with BC's best power hitter up. You aren't trying NOT to walk a guy when you have a control challenged pitcher in general throwing a 3-0 breaking ball.

Also noted that BC seemed to have a very specific plan against Cam... he wasn't in all that long, but they didn't swing at a single fastball. And quite a few were right on the edge of the plate/ should have been strikes. They jumped on the slider when he threw it and both the hits were on that pitch. HAD to be sitting on it.

Maybe Forbes pulled Folger to save his confidence as he pitched much better, but I always like to see a starter to fix his mess in the 4th, especially with a depleted bullpen.

I get where Forbes is coming from but I'd be very surprised if Folger is still starting come ACCT time. Also throwing him 97 pitches in relief negates the biggest advantage that's been cited for keeping him in that role, though I do understand this weekend was a bit out of the norm.

Forbes gave even stronger comments after today (Saturday)'s BC game about the possibility of Glauber starting soon. It feels like a matter of time at this point.

When it's all said and done, we will need both Glauber and Boaz to be good if we're going to win a national championship. But if Glauber is stretched out to where he can throw 90-100 pitches already.....no reason to do anything other than start him, IMO. At least see how it goes.

Can always use either guy in either role in the postseason as the situation dictates.

Who do you take out of the rotation Boaz ? Why not take Lunch out ? He was much more effective last year in relief and even without his slider working he has been very effective the first time around.

His ongoing issues with wildness... 7 WP and 11 HBP... would make him ineffective in relief. You can't enter the game with runners on, and uncork a WP, or put another runner on with HBP. It's bad enough when you walk or hit the leadoff batter. It's even worse when you do that with runners on base. Two of the three runs he allowed on Thursday reached base via being HBP.

I think you have to careful about putting too many innings on a freshman. Mcduffie and Lynch both appeared to wear down as the year went on last year.

Also, you lose the lefty option if you take Boaz out of the rotation. That could be important for matchup purposes in a regional.
Not if you leave Glauber in the bullpen, and promote Rose to the rotation. He has already shown he can work deep into games. The only real concern for me is he has been perfect pitching in relief, with no runs allowed. OTOH, he allowed 2 runs in 2 IP in his only start.

I tend to look at this more as “we have X number of arms we can trust” and you want that number to ideally be 7+ heading into a regional. Right now here’s where I’m at in terms of my personal “trust power rankings” if the postseason started today:

1. Glauber
2. DeCaro
3. McDuffie
4. Lynch
5. Boaz
6. Matthijs
7. Rose
8. Padgett
9. Flannery
10. Seagraves
11. Chewy
12. Holiday

On any college team this type of list is fluid throughout the season. Rose might have been #10 until the last few days.

The reason I view it this way is because if Glauber is truly a top 2 arm on the team in the mind of the coaches entering the postseason, he’s going to likely start games once we get there. Regardless of whether he starts games between now and then.

Lynch has been wild at times but was so good out of the pen last year. I think i would leave it alone right now. Let's see if Boaz can have a couple of good starts again in a row and maybe Lynch can find his slider .
