It was a bad look for Caliendo, but I feel bad for him. You devote your life to a sport, establish yourself as one of the best, but keep losing to the same guy. And those losses include national championships and aren’t close. 0-9 versus Mesenbrink has to be hard to take.
I think Caliendo also knew he was good enough to win a national championship except that there was one guy in front of him who he had almost zero chance of beating no matter how many times they wrestled. That reality may have sunk in while they were sitting waiting for their turn to get their awards on the podium. Still, I think he should have made an effort to be agreeable. He didn't have to smile while he did it.

Was Tan.Tom even there? I saw him like once.
Interesting comment. Had to search for him a few times when he wasn't in the corner. He is usually there and was with his favorites but during the finals he was sanding in the back row of the of the floor. He might simply get too worked up?

Just trying to understand what happened. Did Mitchell do this when he won his other Title? Is this something he's always done or is it new this year? You can think what you want but I'm actually being serious and trying to understand the situation better. It's not always what you think but you do you
sort of irrelevant of past years. Doesn't matter if this was the first time and it is pretty cool if it was. I wouldn't put any categorization on a kid if he lost and didn't do it. Meaning shaking everyone's hands on the podium only when you win isn't a big deal. Point here, after cooling down for more than 15 minutes, you didn't want to shake hands. I think it is a bad look. Listen to Duke after he lost for a proper perspective mindset

I said it was unnecessary but that's premature because I'm not sure if it's something he always does if so I will revisit
Since we’re repeating now, I will repeat myself and beg you, Corby, to split your account into two accounts: Corby-on-wrestling and Corby-on-Corby. Your wrestling posts are wonderful, but not wonderful are your self-defense posts explaining the essence of Corby, the logic of Corby, the tribulations of Corby, etc. When a thread becomes all about Corby, it’s a sad thing, like an infection:

And they all sit in the chairs for a few minutes before they go on the stand you could do it then. It's no different then the Hardy tummy tap just unnecessary regardless of intent
Wait a minute. Your guy pulls a D bag move like this and it somehow is MM fault. I understand that you think you are always right but are you kidding and if so my apologies. It was a D ck move and I totally understand from MC view why he did not, but stop the madness, stop the nonsense of trying to explain away bad behavior.

Just trying to understand what happened.
Nah, you’re just trying to instigate. What happened to the guy well-respected for intel? Why so mean-spirited and petty lately, especially after your Hawks exceeded bottom-shelf expectations? You crow how noble it is to reveal your name, then throw teen-girl slaps and cheap shots from cyberspace. You brag of being a savant, when no real expert ever has to. You flaunt inside connections that sound more like the self-fawning, narcissistic drivel we get from AJ. But, hey, keep playing the innocent who means no harm with his barbed replies, but is just “trying to understand.”
Many here understand the disingenuous well enough.

Oh, so what, Mitch likes to shake hands out of passive-aggression? Get real.

7 other men on that podium. All 7 had something in common: they are all inferior wrestlers to the champ. Only one had a problem with it.
Amen. Furthermore, at the podium is quite common. No different than NHL teams lining up and shaking hands after beating the hell out of each other for three periods. It's a big nothing burger to me, but it's very common.

Maybe Caliendo saw that clip of Claude the Fraud Lemieux cheap shotting a Detroit Red Wing into the boards from behind, and then Dino Ciccarelli saying: "I can't believe I shook his freakin' hand. That pissed me right off."

I've been in that position against my nemesis in high school and college. Wealthy family, and went to Europe every summer to get coaching and play tennis. It was close, but he was simply on another level than I was. After every match, we didn't just shake hands, we hugged it out. He was always complimentary of my game. Actually told me, you're a far better athlete than I am, and you need a proper coach. We became very good friends over the years. I finally got him in college a number of times. Nothing ever changed between us at the end of a match. It was simply proper respect. It's just not worth it to stay mad. It's always good as a person to recognize greatness, and use that to get better.

Life lesson. The way in life and all sports is very simple. Surround yourself with better people, and far better opponents. It will make you a far better person and athlete. It just works.

I'll also add, this is precisely why our wrestlers are such good folks and do so well. Iron sharpens Iron.

Short story. I was in Chicago decades ago to see Detroit and Chicago play in the old Chicago hockey arena. Now, I'm a Broad Street Bullies fan. Flyers, through and through. My God, concrete ceiling is literally, inches above your head, jumping up would break your skull. It wasn't punch him, punch him, it was...kill his MFking ***, kill him. I also had to pay someone to protect my rental. Lol.

Perfectly stated. I'm not sure why so many people pretend he has value when he consistently shows he's just here to start s**t and talk down to everyone like he's somehow above and better than, even though he proves repetitively that he isn't.

Caliendo looked as bad as me out there.
He didn't want to be out there, but to his credit he showed up and took the beating. It is unreal how much space MM has put between himself and the number 2 guy at his weight. He looked like his coaches- wrestling like it is 1992 and clueless how to do anything about it. They need a coaching change in the worst way. Iowa will never win another team title with Brands at the helm, so I guess he can stay forever.

You just answered your own question. I dont feel it was out of respect, jmo. Ive never seen anyone walk the podium shaking everyones hand.
Im not getting involved because I dont give 2 💩 either way but was it Alvin or Hepner on his other side that when he got on the podium he said something to mitch and mitch h responded with a smile and they both shook hands again. Mitch was not being an as s at all. Listen to his post match presser, you have a better understanding of where he is coming from.

While we're at it, the Iron sharpens Iron needs to go away. No one has ever really used the same components to sharpen each other. Steel sharpens Iron would be far more accurate. Iron is simply not a hardened product. Steel is far harder because of the amount of carbon. Upwards of 2%-6%. In other words, your cast iron pan would sharpen soft iron far better. Sorry, I'm a blacksmith.

There was a kid from Huntington that I could never beat. He beat me for 3 straight years. 11-0 against me and I never closed the gap. Beat me at a holiday tournament. Beat me at D6. Beat me in the NW regionals. Beat me in the dual meet. Was a state championship. We ended up good friends and always shook hands.

It takes a bigger man to shake the hand of the better wrestler. Caliendo owes Mitch an apology and Corby needs to go. Hater in disguise.

It's not like Mitchell banged his GF or something.

I haven't said one word prior to criticize Caliendo. There's no need to criticize him. But there's also certainly no need to defend him. If a man offers you his hand in respect, you'd better have a reason to refuse, not just "I'm in a mood because I lost."
I’m almost 70 years old and I know of just one time in my life I refused to shake another guys hand. He was/ is a lying, crooked, cheating son of a b… and if I had to do it over, I’d not shake his hand.
I wonder if Mikey will feel the same way years from now.

Obviously the others would shake they had been done wrestling for hours. Caliendo was done for 15 min. And if it wasn't a look at me thing he does it while they're seated for 5 min before the awards stand.

So shaking hands before and after the match isn't enough now in wrestling we gotta do it while getting awards as well? And if not it's a bad look? I can't believe this is a story and Antrell throwing his bands at Landon isn't guess Antrell doesn't where the right singlet for that to be a story. Regardless of results Iowa still moves the wrestling needle and people won't allow it any other way
I have to say, if you left I would not miss your scintillating commentary one bit.....

My guy as in we both grew up in IL about 30 min apart. He didn't want to shake his hand obviously not sure why this is a big deal when it shouldn't be . They shook hands twice already within the last 20 minutes. It's funny because I have read some hear say we shake hands way to much in wrestling now this is so important
