Pope Signed a Guy for a lot of money, knowing he can't play. He played well against St. Johns.
JQ's dad said that Pope didn't like JQ playing "that way." JQ was bad next game because Pope wanted to play him different."
Then "swelling in the knee."
I wonder if he's sitting out because Pope doesn't allow JQ to play the way he can. I wonder if his camp said eff it, he's not playing.
If Pope does sign Stokes and Stokes pulls the same shiz.. BBN is gonna flip cars.
Maybe I'm just too cynical but I have no doubt they shut it down because they thought how he played those last two games was starting to hurt his stock, and probably blamed Pope (fairly or unfairly). Then JQ started to get some heat from the fans a few weeks ago and what do you know, there's talk that he's really close and will probably play again soon. Of course nothing came of that, it was just a smoke screen to get people to stop criticizing him.
And what's extra disappointing to me is Aberdeen ended up being a very good PG once he settled into the role. What I think this team really could've used then was a consistent post presence, rebounder, and rim protector, all of which JQ theoretically would've provided.
Sharpe was a turning point in the Cal tenure and if things don't work out here with Pope I think this whole deal with JQ will be a nonzero factor. At least we're not the only program dealing with it, I guess!
