I thought Duke was down 2 starters. But they obviously have looked vulnerable for sure.

Cam boozer would be like UK losing OO. Would not end well for Duke.
I'm going off position with that thought. JQ would have easily been our best big man. Not having him, is a huge blow to our ceiling.

If we had a healthy JQ, his impact would be enormous. probably not as big as Cam's, but we honestly don't know, the kid was a lottery pick for a reason. If he was healthy and able to develop, he could have been more important than Oweh.

Well, for starters, Duke is the overall 1 seed. So they clearly had a lot of success throughout the season.

Almost losing is what we are resorting to now?

Removing the NPOY? We are comparing that to Lowe and JQ? :ROFLMAO:

Isn't Duke w/o, Ngongba and foster? Lulz
So you didn't actually read my post.

Yes, duke has heen dominant all season, but look at how 1 injury has affected them.

Pay attention.

4/12 years is most? Wasn't he at BYU longer?
UVS for 4 and BYU for 5 and most of his BYU time was when BYU was in the WCC. That's a far cry from the bright lights of UK and the advantages that come with it.

Pope confirmed this by doing what he did last year after starting with zero players or coaches and again, navigating a ton of injuries.

I'm not even sure why I'm explaining this to you, you're a troll that is doing nothing but stirring the pot.

So, did any players follow him or not? Don't change course now. You asked why nobody followed him, when I gave you the 2 players that you obviously forgot, you reply with another dumb question.

Who else did you expect to follow him and did we actually want anyone else from that BYU team?

Don't say Saunders, just don't, his wife made that decision.

Who else? Did you want him to get Noah Waterman instead of Amari Williams?

Yeah, sit down, loser.
I never said he didnt. Lol.

Someone made the claim he started with a bare cupboard, but eluded to other coaches taking players with them. Pope had the same luxury but only 1 player came with him. 1 recruit. Others transfers to other schools or stayed at BYU for Kevin Young. So why? Why was only 1 plauer loyal to pope?

And it's also not a valid excuse when Pope had the same opportunity. ****, he literally flipped Noah, so he had that option too. Recruit some of the former players was an option too. He didn't.

Oh, his wife did she? :ROFLMAO: That the same wife who happily came to visit?

Didn't UL grab one that lit us up pretty good this year? Khalifa or whatever?

We too good for Trevin Knell? Waterman, Hall, Traore, Baker, Hayhurst?

Most of us are with you on Pope, but let’s just see if this team can continue to press their luck, and win a couple of more games (or more) this tournament, and then next season is “put up or shut up” for one faction of the fan base or the other!

Because meanwhile, over in North Carolina, their coach, who has a WAY better resume than Pope, and is a WAY better recruiter than Pope, is about to have to “take one for the team”, and step aside because, unlike UK’s administration and a small portion of UK’s fans, their administration and fans value their place among the elite of the elite of Blue Bloods, and they are going to poach the next Pitino/ K to lead them into their future, while UK and its fans will be debating whether to keep Pope around for a 4th season, even though, he’s going to lose a minimum of 14 games next season.

They have 2, and are still winning, no? Still the overall 1 seed? Still a favorite to win?

I think you gave it a good college try maybe.

So then, not most of his time at Utah, and BYU had won tournament games prior to Pope, right? And they have done it quickly after he left, correct? But never while he was there. They actually had worse records after his first year.

Also, funny fact about UVS. The year before he took over, they won the WAC, they won it again 2 years after he left and have won it 4 of the last 6 years. Pope never won it.

You should really go compare that to Hurleys record! You might quickly realize your statement was wrong.

Started with zero? A few posts back you were pounding your chest because he brought "2" with him.

I am not a troll. I am simply providing facts amd data you can’t refute which seems to be bothering you.

Soooo you didn't get it.

We have fans in here that make injury excuses for other teams, but turn around and say ours don't count.

Truth is, both count, but you guys hate Pope so much, that you crap on our players and try to say they aren't any good.

Us not having Lowe and JQ, completely neutered this team, but we have dudes saying it doesn’t matter, because somehow a 17ppg 5.5apg and a lottery pick athletic freak, suck.

Go cheer for ISU, as if you aren't already.
Amen!!

UNC, UConn and Duke will all catch Kentucky in titles before we win our 9th, assuming we ever win another.

I admire your tenacity, but you need to realize, if you haven’t already, the fans you are debating with, are emotionally attached to Pope the former player, and now coach, above and beyond the actual performance and results of the coach.

This is why they don’t care about his resume, or care about his winning percentage, or his tournament record, or his absolutely atrocious recruiting acumen… They feel a sense of devotion to him because,”he’s one of our own”, and it’s clouding their judgment of the totality of the situation.

As stated before… Meanwhile, there’s a former player coaching one of our rivals who’s in a similar situation, except the fans of his Alma Mater he’s coaching, are prioritizing winning and tradition over personal feelings for the coach, and he’s about to be gracefully shown the door, so the program can take the “fast pass” to hiring their next future HOF coach, while UK and their fans go back and forth about a guy, who if his name was Tom Crean, instead of Mark Pope, Capt. of the 1996 NCT, would be singing along with us.

No disagreement.

I just enjoy watching as they twist themselves into a pretzel trying to defend him. They keep contradicting their own arguments/logic and it's enjoyable for me.

UNC is being smart, but Davis at least has a F4 and a regular season ACC title in his tenure. I doubt we get either from Pope's tenure.

Not that it matters, but if anyone is wondering why I have this avatar, it’s because after Pope’s speech at his introductory press conference where his mouth was writing checks his @$$ can’t cash, I was bought in 💯💯💯

I thought UK hit a grand slam, knowing Pope was going to be able to use NIL, to camouflage his lack of recruiting prowess, and then he started 7-0, and I thought he might just be the best thing that could have happened… Then, historical facts started to emerge, and I soon realized, he’s going to be the coach he had previously been 10 years prior….Nothing more, nothing less.

Fast forward to now, and history is indeed manifesting itself.

Not true at all, we just realize the situation we're in and injuries derailed both his first 2 seasons here.

Also, we have all said there are a lot of red flags with Pope, but you cannot fire him after 2 years. You have to give a guy a chance to fix the issues.

You also can't fire a coach that did what Pope did last year. A 3 seed, sweet 16 and 4 or 5 huge wins after starting with no roster and navigating injuries.

If Pope doesn’t do big things next year, the fans that haven't already turned on him, will, including me.
This is why they don’t care about his resume, or care about his winning percentage, or his tournament record, or his absolutely atrocious recruiting acumen… They feel a sense of devotion to him because,”he’s one of our own”, and it’s clouding their judgment of the totality of the situation.
Because his winning percentage at UK is partly due to injuries and his issues are easily fixed. We're giving him a chance to fix the issues he has, that's it, nothing more and nothing less.
I assume you're talking about Hubert Davis, but you're leaving out the fact that this isn’t his second year, he’s had plenty of time to get it right, he hasn’t and if this was Pope's 4th season and he got upset the way uNC just did, he would be shown the door too.

I’m not emotionally attached at all to Pope. Would be perfectly fine if he just resigned. I’m just not stupid enough to think that will happen or stupid enough to think if I “let myself be heard” on a message board that I’ll make a difference.

This was Hubert’s 5th year. Unless something drastic happens, our fan base will be right where UNC’s now after year three for Pope.

My bad. I thought you used the term “lit it up”.
I said lit us up. And in 15 min, he had 4 pts, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals. He only took 4 shots. So, yea, he lit us up pretty well all things considered. Do you only consider points scored as far as game stats go?

Nice job assuming the intent of everyone who disagrees with you. lol. Reading what you posted here makes it clear you have no intent of understanding why someone wouldn’t want to give up on the Pope experiment this early. Pretty bad. At least if you disagree, disagree with the actual points not the 8-bit strawman.
