Wonder if this is true?

They both were the number one player in the country in their respective classes.
Yeah but not all classes and number one’s are created equal. AD would go for way more money than Skal ya know? He will get paid a ton but Kansas isn’t even offering like 2M for him. I think 4M is about his cap.

U know what.......is this true? Probably not.

But there does seem to be quite a bit of talk of Stokes to UK lately. And when there's a lot of smoke..........well.......lets see.

I don’t care what we spend, so long as we win. It’s not my money (well, technically $25 per month of it might be). Maybe I’m paying for one kid to mop up sweat for a half during a bad non-conference Tuesday night game.

Can you not see that I quoted someone else? Are you ok?
This thread has degenerated into the validity of where I got the information from. Of course it is crazy but it stimulates discussion and this board is not going to have credibility with some people as to where information came from.

That page is a known peddler of BS, which most of Facebook is these days.

I will believe these things when I see them.

Wrong about what? The guy said it was posted on Matt Jones site. I wasn't aware Matt owned Facebook, my bad.

No he didn’t.

I’m literally not gonna spell it out for you after he already did but that’s not what he said.

Stokes may not be Dybantsa, but he will be the best (or at least top 5) FR in the class. So yes we need him.
As for Pate, please NOOOOO!!!!! He is a volume scorer, a guy who likes to shoot a lot but can't shoot it well. Oh, and he turns it over a lot too.

How much did Dybentsa get from BYU? He got close to that and was the number one player in the country coming out of high school. Same as Stokes.
That’s part of my point. BYU & those types of schools do have to seriously overpay to land big time recruits. And, I don’t even mind overpaying. But, we should never have to double or triple offers & act desperate, either.

Just kinda frustrating after hearing Yaxel’s comments. Idk if that’s true or not. But, circumstantial evidence is starting to accumulate suggesting the possibility. Also, Dybantsa is a a generational type player, IMO. I think he’s a step above Stokes, personally. And, as good as he is, BYU got a 1 & done exit for their money.

I really hope it’s true. Both of those guys actually move the needle. Pate is an elite playmaker for his size. Stokes is just a bull in a China shop.
Since it's none of any of our money, we really shouldn't care how much they spend.

The only thing we should care about is understanding what the total "pot size" is and what percentage of that "pot" that each player takes up.

Who give a crap if someone pays Stokes a billion dollars. It's not your money. It shouldn't matter as long as we still have 40 billion to spend on the rest of the team.

Hope that makes sense.

BTW, I'm not talking about the total pot size that Alabama has for its players. I'm referring to a different kind of pot.

Totally agree. No way I’d give Stokes $7M. I don’t believe that anyway. But, he’s not worth that. He is a great player, but, for $7M you can add 2-3 guys who would make a similar or bigger impact. With probably half the headache, too. I get strong team cancer vibes from Stokes. I’d definitely take a chance on him, though. Just not a $7M chance, or anything close to that.

Pate isn’t worth $5M, either. He’s a glorified spot up shooter who seems selfish in the limited highlights I’ve seen. Both guys will likely be really good on this level. But, not worth those price tags. Somebody needs to reel in Pope if he’s seriously throwing out offers like this. He shouldn’t have to freaking double everybody else’s offers to lure kids to UK. Ridiculous.
What do you think about the Quinn guy? The more I read about him, and the difficulty of the league he plays in, the more I think he might be great for us.

Additionally, what about the fact that Pope spoke out against adding players like Dink, but now we are going after that same type of player? Should Dink even be allowed to play in the NCAA? IDK, I'm not an expert on the rules. It's just kind of weird. Ya know?

I’m hoping Pope is using his own money to purchase those 2 players, he seems to owe us after this season. Then use Official NIL money to get players that can actually play and win.
Bro, WHO CARES HOW MUCH MONEY IS SPENT!!

It's not your money, unless you are a multimillionaire donor...

The money doesn't come from the actual University of Kentucky.
The money does not come from your tax dollars.
The amount of money spent impacts you in zero ways.

Who cares how much these donors spend, or advertisers spend, or wherever the f**k the money comes from.

At this point, just spend the money, get the players, and build the program back up. This is what we should all be saying.

Heck give Pope all the money. Pay Stokes 10 million. Pay Dink 7 million. Pay Quinn 6 million. Then use a bucket of 30 million to retain Chandler, MM, Kam. Consider Mo and Jelly. Throw some strange to Noah to sit on the bench. Let Jasper and JLo leave. Throw the rest at top portal players. Give Hawthorne a couple million. Reese Potter, IDK, I guess he can get some strange too.

That's 53 million dollars. Who cares? It's not your money.

Do you see my point?

I disagree. You have to have a superstar. 2 decent players don't equal 1 great one. We have seen that.
In this era I believe you pay high for a great one and fill around him

Pate has a better 3pt% in the G League than Antonio Reeves and Koby Brea. I'm not sure where this reputation comes from. He's much younger as well by 4-5 years.

If you are looking at G league stats from their website, you have to switch from tip-off tournament to regular season.

29.5% from 3, 36.4% FG, 44-45% from 2 = NO THANK YOU!!!
Those 3.8 TOs are a big red flag too.

Ellis looks legit, IMO. Very skilled with good size & athleticism. It’s hard to tell from highlights but he seems to be a good passer with nice vision & awareness, too. I’m always leery of leagues overseas bc I just don’t follow them & don’t know enough to form an educated opinion. And, the success rate seems to be hit & miss. But, like you, the more I read, the more it sounds like he’s playing against quality competition. And, programs like Duke, UF & UH recruiting him adds some legitimacy, too.

I also agree on the Dink Pate stuff. Pope looks kinda desperate going after a G League player so soon after speaking against it. I’m not a fan of Pate OR G League players being college eligible. That decision to go pro should be final once they skip college & play in a G League game, IMO. Especially, the guys who already played CBB.

I worry that when those floodgates open we’ll have pros comprising most of the rosters. Idk why I care about preserving amateurism though bc CBB is already a far cry from that. But, allowing G Leaguers would be the final death knell of the charade of CBB still being classified as amateur. I hate it & hope it doesn’t happen. I realize a lot of overseas players play in pro leagues but they are more comparable to our college game & not on the level of pro leagues here.

You don’t consider Yaxel a superstar? Michigan got him for $3M. And, as far as I know, only a few guys were paid considerably more. I agree about needing a superstar. But, I think they can be had for far less than $7M. And, personally, I wouldn’t want to give that kind of money to an unproven, incoming FR with character issues. If I WAS gonna pay a FR like that it wouldn’t be Stokes. I realize he’s an amazing talent. But, like I said before, I get selfish, team cancer vibes from him.

that’s not how numbers work. But professional players commonly make more than their coach

Umm that is how numbers work. 7 is greater than 5.

and the key word is professional. He already can’t relate to college aged kids.

sorry that took some reading comprehension skills to understand for you.

Pope can’t pay someone more than he makes that’s not how numbers work he would go into a negative. If you mean NIL paying a player more than the coach pro coaches regularly make less than their players so there’s no correlation or backing of your point.
