Look at Minnesota. One could make a reasonable argument that they came here to defraud our system. Those are all Somalian immigrants. All of them. California same. There’s terrible people here and that are coming here.
The ring leaders of the Somali fraud were not Somali. Seems a lot of them were taken advantage of. And my argument has never been all one way or another.

You switched from a state to a city. The point is that democrats have high taxes. When i peppered AI with questions regarding your post i asked it to compare NYC's rate to that of other major cities. I think its more fair to compares cities to cities than cities to states.

What i found was that every major city that has a city tax, is a democrat city. The cities with the highest overall tax burdens are all ..... democrat run.

View attachment 1220303

NYC's local income tax (often referred to as the city portion) tops out at 3.876% for higher earners (with graduated rates starting at 3.078% for lower brackets, depending on filing status and income level). This is in addition to New York State's top marginal rate of 10.9% (for high earners), making the combined state + local marginal rate on ordinary income (including short-term capital gains) up to about 14.8% before federal taxes. Few major U.S. cities impose a local income tax at all—most rely on state-level income taxes (if any), sales taxes, property taxes, or other levies. NYC is one of the more notable examples with a meaningful city-level income tax. Here's a comparison with other major cities (based on current 2025–2026 rates for high earners/residents; rates can vary by income bracket, filing status, and exact year):
  • New York City (NY): 3.078%–3.876% local (top ~3.876%). Combined with NY state (up to 10.9%): ~14.8% total state + local.
  • Chicago (IL): No city income tax. Illinois state flat rate is 4.95%. (Some sources note minor local add-ons in certain areas, but none for Chicago proper on general income.)
  • Los Angeles / San Francisco (CA): No city income tax. California state top marginal rate is 13.3% (plus a 1% mental health surcharge for very high earners, pushing effective top to 14.4% in some cases). LA and SF residents face the full state rate but no additional local income tax.
  • Boston (MA): No city income tax. Massachusetts state flat rate is 5% (with a 4% surtax on high earners over ~$1M, making top effective ~9%).
  • Seattle (WA): No city or state income tax on wages/ordinary income (Washington has a separate capital gains tax on high earners, but it doesn't apply to ordinary income or short-term gains in the same way).
  • Miami (FL): No city or state income tax. Florida has no state income tax.
  • Houston / Dallas (TX): No city or state income tax. Texas has no state income tax.
  • Atlanta (GA): No city income tax. Georgia state flat rate is around 5.39% (phasing down in some reforms).
  • Philadelphia (PA): Yes—Philadelphia has a local wage tax (earned income tax) of 3.79% for residents (non-residents pay 3.44%). Combined with Pennsylvania state flat rate of 3.07%: ~6.86% total state + local for residents.
Key Takeaways
  • NYC's 3–4% local tax is relatively high among cities that have one—Philadelphia's is similar (3.8%), but most major cities (especially in no-income-tax states like TX, FL, WA) have zero local income tax.
  • Only a handful of U.S. cities levy meaningful local income taxes (e.g., NYC, Philadelphia, some in Maryland like Baltimore, or certain Ohio/Kentucky locales), and NYC's is among the highest in that small group.
  • For high earners, cities in high-state-tax states like San Francisco/LA (CA ~13.3%) or NYC (NY ~10.9% + 3.9%) often end up with the heaviest combined burdens, even if the local portion varies.
  • Many "major cities" in no-state-income-tax areas (e.g., Houston, Dallas, Miami, Seattle) offer the lowest combined income tax exposure at 0% state + local.
This makes NYC stand out as one of the more heavily taxed major cities on ordinary income/short-term gains at the local level, though the overall picture depends heavily on state taxes too.
I mentioned NYC because that’s what your post said that I was responding to. When did I mixup state and city? NYC is definitely one of, if not the highest, taxed cities in the US so no argument there.

big cities usually have higher taxes to accommodate for the larger amount of people that live there. I wouldn’t expect Kingstree, SC to have a similar tax rate to NYC, or even Charleston, because smaller cities don’t need the tax revenue. That being said, I’m no advocate for higher taxes, but I do recognize the benefits at the local and state levels.

fair points. I lived in Chicago for a long time and you are correct they do need more services due to the density etc.

I do find it interesting they are all democrat, almost without exception.

I think there's probably some studies explaining why big cities overwhelming end up being D and rural areas overwhelming go R. I'd say it's probably just the voters in those respective areas have different priorities. How you are raised is a major factor, imo - if you grew up in a R house you probably stayed R, and vice versa. If you grew up in an apolitical home, you're probably going to end up supporting whatever party your peers/friends do until you decide to pay attention and dig into whatever policies you end up caring about. Voters in big cities probably look for more robust social services/public transit/etc because it's more expensive and they need more assistance to make ends meet. Voters in rural areas probably care more about things like low taxes/immigration/etc because they likely don't need to rely on any public transit/social services programs due to familial connections.

That's just a big paragraph saying idk, but it's a fun thought study imo.

Taken advantage of??? What? Why is there always some justification for insanely horrible behavior? I do not get it. 72 of the 78 defendants are Somali. The vast majority were Somali, disproportionately Somalian immigrants. It is what it is man. No one put a gun to their head and made them steal money. This was a complex operation dating back to Covid. These are the scum of the earth. Ring leader or not they were super willing to commit 100’s of millions of dollars in fraud. Everyone one of them should be shipped back to Somalia on their dime yesterday. Hopefully one day I’ll get taken advantage of and fleece taxpayers of 100’s of millions of dollars for nothing.

I’m not saying all of them were. But I am saying with a lot of fraud cases there are what are called Smurfs I believe. People that the “boss” or leaders of the fraud have sign up for something or do something and they pay them (likely a fraction of the overall grift). Happens with homeless people and money laundering and happens in a lot of fraud cases. Depending on how the grift works they may or may not even known what they’re doing is wrong if it’s a con. (Not sure if any in this situation were actually charged, the ones charged could’ve been the ones on the inside of the operation only).

Sure. But all you have to do is watch that Nick Shirley video to see this isn’t some complex scheme. These people had fake daycares period. He’s walking around trying to enroll his “son” into daycare and no one has kids. All of them are complicit and guilty. One thief ripping off another thief doesn’t make them a victim. They’re both pos thieves.

I think you should do some research into the Nick Shirley expose from both sides of sourcing. He is trying to make you angry and was successful. You’re hating the people you’re supposed to, and calling people you know very little about pos. All the while almost ten times this amount of fraud has been commuted from admin allies and not given to their victims. And almost the same amount of money as this fraud was given to Noem for a commercial with her in it.

All fraud is awful and I hate it. But I don’t connect it to an entire group of people and get angry at all of them. It’s not healthy. But it’s what the people who try to divide us want. Hope for your sake you’re able to step back and realize that it can both be awful, you can want things to change, and that it doesn’t have to divide us and make everything rage inducing and connect to everyone.

you're 100% right. We should put partisanship aside and root out fraud at every level. We, as a country, have been complaining for years and nibbling only around the edges. Maybe Trump/Vance can get this started more aggressively. They won't get it done in one term, but hopefully they can create the culture that leads through the next administration, no matter which party is in control

I’m all for going after fraud, but they haven’t shown to care about it whatsoever unless it’s politically beneficial to them, and even then they’ve lied about its extent and who is to blame. But absolutely game to go after it. Was the intention of the various IG positions as well.

I also agree about the IGs but based on what we're seeing they haven't done a bang up job.

Politicians are going to politic. The old expression "it's amazing what you can get done if you don't care who gets the credit" maybe need to renter our government halls

So they’ve charged the daycares he visited?
whoa, with all due respect that was the argument I used back in the ICE in Minneapolis days when many were certain of "murder". I asked the same question and pointed out that no charges had been filed, and was excoriated by the left for such a statement.

But, I agree with you..if there's a valid complaint, what haven't they charged the daycare owners for fraud. (or maybe that have and it just hasen't been reported)

Sure, but in one case it would be an administration charging itself (after very publicly claiming innocence all over the news and blocking outside investigation). And in the other, it would be the side claiming the fraud also not charging anyone for fraud, different right?

I think the left knew the worm was turning and it was happening pretty quickly. Hence the “policy change” to open borders. Why else would you open the border, then pay to relocate them to states that just so happen to not enforce voter ID laws, then put millions on taxpayer funded food assistance, healthcare, housing, spending money, etc…. Any reasonable person understands precisely what’s going on. Then stories like this solidify the narrative - she’s joking, but is she? They’ve lost mainstream, moderate Americans - that’s obvious not only in the mass exodus from those states but also the lack of accountability you see in those states. So SF can have 50 square blocks of people shi—ing all over the streets and open air drug markets but if you don’t file for a permit you can’t build a shed in your backyard and the state will fine you. That’s the modern left - and most normal people hate them.

Other than children, the elderly and those with significant mental or physical handicaps, I struggle to see why anyone else needs any entitlement from the government.
This all starts at home, and is propagated by the government facilitating victimhood, not rugged individualism. The exact opposite of Mamdani and his ilk. Also, the exact opposite of being an American.

Exactly. That’s my point. If you have a child that’s been in school for 12 years, that’s 18 years old and they can’t read that’s a YOU problem. That’s not my problem or my fault or anyone else's frankly. Reparations and welfare and handouts do not fix lazy, unaccountable people. How are those schools still being funded? If you want to see what liberal policies do to people look no further than Chicago - Murder capital, illiteracy capital and zero accountability. The mayor is constantly blaming everything and everyone under the sun for the disaster that is Chicago. Zero blame to the students who aren’t trying, the parents that raised them that way or the administrators that allow it.
Our public schools have become an absolute disgrace since the creation of the NEA. When you have folks like Aaron Maybin having to give funds to the school he teaches at in Baltimore to supply heat, we have a major problem.

Chicago just recorded its lowest annual murder total in decades. Chicago is 22nd in murder rate in the country.

Chicago’s school problems are due to historic redlining, neoliberal disinvestment, racism from the Daley machine pre-80s, and privatization.

Illiteracy is a national problem with a number of complex issues that can’t solely be blamed on a single political party
Lmao. It's hilarious how libs celebrate cities like Chicago and Philly for a year or two of a downturn. Meanwhile, they miss the last 20 years of horrendous murders and violent crime. It's like patching a hole in a submarine and telling the Captain, we're going to the bottom, just not quite as fast.

FYI, the most dangerous cities in America are run by Dems. Get a clue. 100% of the top 10, and have been for decades. Get a clue. You're sh&t don't work and never has.

What is the largest city with a Republican mayor?

Crime declining in Chicago and Philly is part of the wider nationwide crime decline over the last 30ish years. Crime spiked after covid but it was still relatively down to the 90s and has resumed the downward trend.

Charter schools function by skimming the top 10-15% of public school students off the top because they can be selective in admissions

Imagine you’re coaching pony league baseball. All of the other teams get players distributed to them randomly. You get to hold a tryout before this happens and select your roster. You’d be an absolute dunce to not outperform the other teams in that scenario, yeah? Thats exactly what’s happened in Aiken County, btw. The charter school hasn’t been performing as well as the public schools despite selective admissions.
This is literally the dumbest post I've ever read and you have absolutely no facts to back this up. Charter schools use lotteries regarding students admissions. You are completely fos, and don't have a fking clue what you're talking about.

I think it depends on where the school is, where I came from in Pa it was first come, from what I've seen from news reports in NYC it's lottery, I would imagine it's school district by school district or state by state.
