#1 seeds who have lost in their conference tournament:

ASUN Central Arkansas

Big Sky Portland State

CAA UNC-Wilmington

CUSA Liberty

MAAC Merrimack

MAC Miami (OH)

MVC Belmont

Patriot Navy

SoCon East Tennessee State

SLC Stephen F Austin

SWAC Bethune Cookman
Part of me hates that more value is given to the conference tournament than the regular season but it makes for a fun couple weeks before the Big Dance.

I agree with the sentiment. My feeling is "The Tournament" has already started. Everybody (with the exception of some Ivies and Mercyhurst) control their own fate. Now, some schools (conferences) aren't in a "must win" or "win or go home" situation. It's why I tend to gravitate to the "mid-major" tournaments.

One of the great rivalries is on tonight. Akron and Kent
For those two, it’s been like that from Day 1. It’s good to be reminded of this competitive purity amidst the overwhelming commercialization of everything college sports. It’s everywhere if you remember to seek it out.

Thoughts on Kentucky making the tournament? I will be shocked if they pull it out against Florida. Down 12 and they’ve only scored 38 in 29 minutes of play.

Aside to myself: if Auburn is a last four in/out, then Kentucky is a lock.

With ten minutes to play Kentucky and Florida are a combined 4-30 from 3.

Kentucky will be a 7ish seed.

Don't really get the Auburn discussion either. 16 losses. I don't care who the wins are against, they lost 16 times!

They needed another win or two for them to really be in contention…but they played an extremely tough schedule, had a lot better wins than the other bubble teams, lost to Bama in one of the handful of games that Bama played an ineligible player, have strong metrics relative to other bubble teams, etc. it certainly makes sense that they were in the mix when you compare them to other teams, rather than look at a specific number of losses….but it’s pretty much moot at this point since they didn’t get those 1-2 more wins.

Lehigh will host the Patriot League title game as Boston U shocked Navy on a deep 3 right before the buzzer.

If Lehigh can win it, they’ll almost certainly head to Dayton to play their way into the matchup with a #1 seed.
Just saw a prediction on the play-in. Looks like you were right. We have to beat some team to get a 16 seed. Then we beat Duke.

Tennessee-Vanderbilt a very good game. Vanderbilt’s guards, Miles and Tanner, dang.

At this point, it's pretty much a lock that the 1st 4 in Dayton will be Lehigh, and the winners of the America East, SWAC, and MEAC. It's a safe bet that Lehigh will either meet the MEAC or SWAC winner (both those games are tomorrow if you want to do some scouting).

That's now twice today (Michigan and Dayton) that a team made a very late basket with time still left on the clock, and the team that scored had players off the bench and on the court celebrating. Both times, the refs are letting them off the hook by looking at the clock. Really needs to be a point of emphasis...if there is time left and the trailing team wants to go quickly, they should have that option (and draw the T on the team with >5 guys on the court).

The last 20 seconds of the Dayton-St.Louis game will be on every highlight show for the next 2 days. On to Penn-Harvard.

I will be competing in the Tournament Pick’ em but announce here now that, other than Vanderbilt and Lehigh-Duke, I will be choosing my teams blind. It won’t be the first time I’ll have finished in the bottom or so five; please don’t punch down.

Unbelievable, Pennsylvania beats Yale in overtime, goes to the Tournament.

Penn was down 2 at the end of regulation, threw up a terrible shot and Yale rebounds, is fouled with five seconds left. Then my wife asks me to go to the store for some last minute supplies and I’m all, sure, what the hell, Penn is toast. I get back to see the final minute of overtime.

Penn was my boyhood team, Morse, Calhoun, Wolf, Bilsky, Wohl, Hankinson, Littlepage.

This is definitely going to f up my bracket, I will not pick against the Quakers.

Absolutely loved the Quaker team that you mentioned. Power hit two 3's in the last 15 seconds to send it to OT. Thrower scored 5 in a row to give Penn a working margin in the extra session.

You might appreciate this story, I heard Bob Weinhauer speak at a camp many years ago. He coached the '79 team that made the Final Four with Michigan State, Indiana State, and DePaul. The center was Matt White. Weinhauer spoke about the importance of kids knowing their range. He said, "Matt White's range was 1 foot."
