Nobody ever really knows. With the exception of Journey they were turrible. What's your point exactly?

I blame Jensen for not clapping enough the last 4 minutes. The reserves obviously felt emotionally neglected. With the exception of Journey they were turrible. What's your point exactly?
OK? 25-5 with that weak bench. I'll take it.The bench is weak.
That results in a couple of potential issues...
1. Ava and HS will have to back off a little of defense, because neither can get that 3rd foul in the first half. That creates situations where the other team forces the inside game.
It hinders both on offense because the officials have really been calling illegal screens alot.
2. JJ won't be able to utilize her "fouls to give" at the end of quarters.![]()
They won another game. He has the sads for the 25th time this year I guess.Nobody ever really knows.

Where?Wow, watching the Jensen locker room speech after the game, she really "dressed down" the backups.
They gotta feel like shiit.
One of these times that will come back to bite her in the ***. They scored the last 15. It was too close for comfort. The clip they showed from the BTN she was pretty positive. She acknowledged they didn’t play great and Illinois left their starters in, but she said she didn’t pull them because she had no doubt they would win this game. She turned it into a positive for them and said it gave them experience which may pay off in the upcoming games when they’re called upon.
JFC. We ***** slapped them for 36 minutes and we have to hopefully play 3 games in 3 days and she subbed out our starters. The game was never in danger. I’ve never seen such a freaking whiny fan base of a successful team in my lifetime. The goal is to win and be able to give your starters some rest and we did. Starters absolutely dominated. In fact, it was probably our best defensive effort of the year besides possibly the Michigan game. Yes, the bench sucked. But it was really nothing new. Hays struggled. She’s struggled all year. Deal was good until the last 4 minutes. Yep, she stunk at the end. None of it matters. We won and it was never in doubt.
I vote with the coach, rest starters and get bench players playing time.It was a win, but a little scary at the end. Pound Illinois by 20 vs. get subs some experience?
When your subs are that terrible? It was a win, but a little scary at the end. Pound Illinois by 20 vs. get subs some experience?
This. People are blowing this way out of proportion. Illinois had about as good of a run as they could have against the subs and still lost.I vote with the coach, rest starters and get bench players playing time.
Tell me you thought the reserves played well tonite.
Say it.
Not those subs at the same time in a close game.I didn't and nobody else thought the reserves all played well, because they were all in at the same time. I replied to someone else that indeed Jan plays subs in close games. Tell me you don't think she does that. Say it.
This. People are blowing this way out of proportion. Illinois had about as good of a run as they could have against the subs and still lost.
It was the right call by Jan.
Sorry you didn't get it. My post was just having a little fun with anon78 complaining several days ago that Iowa didn't interview Jenni Baranczyk for the Iowa WBB job. I watched Jenni play every game in CHA and she was and has always been one of my favorites. There.Right. Why disparage another Iowa Hawkeye cause you feel like it props up JJ? JJ doesn’t need it. Oklahoma will be a 2 seed after playing in a conf with LSU, South Carolina, Texas, Vandy, and so on.
Not those subs at the same time in a close game.
And we're talking about coach that thought Deal should start ahead of Stremlow.
Sat it!
BTW: Got anything original?
The starters weren’t pulled at the time but they already did have a late game let up where it bit them in the *** against Maryland. If you’re only considering late game melt downs that is.One of these times that will come back to bite her in the ***. They scored the last 15. It was too close for comfort.

SAME. Sure I was a little frustrated with the final minute, but the first 36 minutes it was an absolute *** whooping. Sad that people can’t look past that.Iowa won by 6 instead of 16, When the game tips this afternoon the final score of the Illinois game is inconsequential. I can only speak for myself, At no time in the closing minute did I feel Iowa was in danger of losing the game.
Define close game. Not those subs at the same time in a close game.

It was definitely "bush league" for Green to leave starters in that long.
I like what you’re saying but I would guess that when Iowa plays this coach in another game there will be no pulling back on the throttle. That will be the lesson for her.The way to react then is when Jan took her starters out and Illinois did not, then at the first dead ball, put the starters back in, at least for a minute or so and then take them out. It wouldn't have mattered to the results, but would have kept some posters from coming unglued.
We've found common ground. The way to react then is when Jan took her starters out and Illinois did not, then at the first dead ball, put the starters back in, at least for a minute or so and then take them out. Ava picked up her first foul 2 minutes into the game and sat for a few minutes in the first quarter. She picked up her second foul with 3 minutes to go in the half and then sat the rest of the quarter. And most importantly she picked her fourth foul up with 7 minutes to go.
And she basically sat the rest of the game. So once again fouls didn't keep her off the floor, Jan did. The number of times these coaches pull players so they don't get further into foul trouble and much of the time they never do get past three fouls is crazy. Ava played 17 minutes in the game. Crazy...Ava picked up her first foul 2 minutes into the game and sat for a few minutes in the first quarter. People gotta be unhappy I guess?
??? Were you not gripping your chair a bit when it got down to a two possession game with in the last 40 seconds? Because I was. One more TO, on their side of the court and your looking at a crazy finish.People gotta be unhappy I guess?
She plays subs regularly in close games, but you probably missed it while looking for a negative.
That really isn't the point as much as people are trying to bend it into that. There is zero problem playing Layla, or Levin, or Mallegni, its putting them ALL out there together and its as clear as the nose on your face they were NOT prepared for the moment or whatever they were supposed to be doing the last three minutes. She plays subs regularly in close games, but you probably missed it while looking for a negative.
Fortunately it worked out. Even though the bench didn’t play great down the stretch, hopefully it was still a valuable learning experience for them going forward. I’m glad the starters were able to get some rest during this tournament — that could really pay off if we make it to Sunday. In the postseason you never know when foul trouble might force a backup or two into meaningful minutes, so the more experience they can get now, the better.
That also ties into a criticism some of us had of Bluder during the Clark years, if I remember correctly. Early in Jan’s first season as head coach, things might have gone more smoothly if players like McCabe and KF had gotten more minutes in previous seasons instead of leaving the starters in as long as they were. Developing the bench earlier can really help when roles suddenly expand.
Again playing some bench players is not the issue its putting them all out there, and it was obvious they were not prepared for what their roles were.Fortunately it worked out. Seems like she subbed at the exact perfect time.Thankfully time ran out. With this sub lineup Illinois would have won it with a couple of more minutes. Jan subbed way too soon.

Houston-Killed it on the boards..Tell me you thought the reserves played well tonite.

No one’s saying it shouldn’t have gone better than it did. But in my opinion it was a worthwhile risk, especially with the possibility of playing three games in three days. It also might have gone a little smoother if a point guard like Stremlow had been in during the final 2–3 minutes.Again playing some bench players is not the issue its putting them all out there, and it was obvious they were not prepared for what their roles were.

I wasn’t thrilled with how things finished either, but I’d rather focus on the next game and take a glass-half-full approach. It’s pretty clear at this point that not everyone is going to agree on it 100%. Why not just move on? The next game is about to start.
Part of the conversation is the never ending dialogue here that if you bring up ANYTHING that was troubling about how part of the game went your labeled a whiner, bitcher, complainer, yada, yada, yada. Good Lord people, you can interject into the conversation without being "a hater" of the coach or players. Its pretty clear none of them are infallible. No one’s saying it shouldn’t have gone better than it did. My point is at some point Jan needs to trust she can play another few minutes without picking up another foul. That's coaching as well. If the game was never in doubt she could certainly have played a few minutes, even if she did get another foul. That's also a teaching moment.Like I said part of the reason why Ava only played 17 minutes was because Jan called the dogs off early in the 4th. The other part was due to the fact Ava got in foul trouble.
Yeah I don’t think there’s anything wrong with pointing out that stuff. This is a message board after all. I do feel you’ve always made your points respectfully with regard to the players and coaches.Part of the conversation is the never ending dialogue here that if you bring up ANYTHING that was troubling about how part of the game went your labeled a whiner, bitcher, complainer, yada, yada, yada.
