2025 recruit Trey Thompson: 6’8”
Only 2026 recruit as of now Harris: 6’8”

What we’re already putting on the floor:
Freshman Tate Sage 6’7”
Freshman Koch 6’8”

Do you see the redundancy?
Not at all. They have different skill sets and can guard different positions. McCollum has said (and his most successful teams have done this) that he likes playing a guard, 3 hybrids and a true center. So if that lineup covers 3 positions, and you have 4 listed, it would appear we’d actually need another in case of illness or injury 😉

I’ll ask again, are you aware of our current targets? Or are you hung up on “adding” guys who are either already here or are in the fold?

Both of the current freshmen with much potential. Ben likes bigs who can shoot. I really like both forwards coming in and Harris looks more like the wing type. Neither represents our two greatest positions of need another big and at least one point guard.

WHAT???? No kidding. You remember when McCollum said publicly, his priority was guards and a rim-protecting big, right? Are you struggling to understand that while reading the current offer list, or are you intentionally ignoring those facts to prop up an idiotic narrative? Which 6'8" players are we going after?
It's like people forget the transfer portal exists, or that they think we'll only get more '6'8 white guys' there.

Squad balance is too lofty a concept for these people. Don't bother lol

Makes the 'yeet Folgueiras into the sun' takes so funny to me. 1) that's the kind of big Ben loves, 2) we're going to struggle to replace Bennett's production next year so lets jettison a stretch 5. Make it make sense.

And how is that working out? And 6’8” aren’t “Bigs” but we’re adding two more of this into the mix - both expecting to play. So, BM gonna have numerous dudes with the same measurements to choose from.

“This is a tricky situation, Coach Sash. Should we substitute in the 6’8” wing or the 6’8” wing?”

It doesn't make sense. Folgueiras will become a key piece next season. I like the skillset Jirak brings to the table and another thing that doesn't make sense how little he plays once we got into conference season. Ideally you want a freshman big to only play situationally but he hasn't seen much time on the court. Trevor has good passing skills and plays well out of the high post.

Does Ben want another stretch big or a true center with an inside game that hopefully Jirak devlops as well? I sometimes wonder how much of an inside game Ben really wants as he adapts to Big Ten play.

Please tell me you know something
It won't be easy to replace all the scoring that we will lose -Stirtz and possibly Banks. But who knows, anything is possible with the portal!
I also expect / hope that some of the guys that have shown flashes this year (Sage, The Spaniard, Coop) all take a step forward next year. I'm also hoping that guys on the bench like Thomson live up to the hype (but he is still young). Ultimately, I think the likelihood of the team being better next year will be determined by BM ability to bring in a couple of proven players from the portal.

Maybe Ben wants Jirak to develop more physically to be a presence down low, but I'm not sure either. Regardless, he has shown enough to at least see limited minutes in every game.

The thought of Folgueiras, Jirak, and *a rim protector* rotating next year is very nice. Then our 6'8 and 6'9 guys don't have to be outmatched constantly.

Agreed. Would be great to have a true rim protector so we don't have our Forwards defending Centers. It would also help defend the dribble drive penetration that we have allowed vs quick guards.

IMHO, we need a starting true center and a starting true PG from the portal next year. I know, easier said than done and I'm asking alot!

Ben demands effort from his players, and I haven't seen a game yet this season where anyone can say our effort has been poor. Fran's teams don't even hold a candle to how hard this team plays. I have full confidence that we'll continue to get recruits that fit the type of culture Ben wants. I think we'll be better defensively next season. I'd be shocked if he's fired in 3 years.

I’m honestly not sure what to expect moving forward. You’re not being honest if you think we can just plug and play another pt guard in after Ben’s usage of Stirtz the last 4 years. If I was honest after watching every Drake game last year this season has probably gone about as expected. I thought Manyewu would take a bigger step forward. Folgueras has been wildly inconsistent. Honestly the entire team besides Stirtz and Banks have. And now the injury to Banks has really hurt us. You just can’t have Folgueras getting 20 one night and zero the next. And expecting Harris and Thompson to be immediate contributors in this league is going to be tough. I have no doubt he can coach but we need better players moving forward.

If you're not going to count them then why ask?
We have no signature wins. We’ve lost to every other ranked team this season, and the next two games are guaranteed L’s.

With Stirtz gone, there’s little optimism for next year. Ben so far has not made the case for good recruits to look at Iowa. He made a valiant effort but failed to close the sale to get that stud from his hometown of Storm Lake.

I'd call Nebraska a signature win. They're 10/12 depending on the poll. Why on earth wouldn't you count it?

But yeah, I get the point. The other quad 1 wins are Washington (won't make the NCAAT) and Indiana (may not make the NCAAT). Indiana has lost 4 straight, so I'm expecting them to be "out" when the next ESPN Bracketology comes out.

Guess we'll see what those next 2 games bring, but I'm not optimistic about beating Michigan, or Nebraska on the road.

Sure, I'm peaved about the MD and PSU losses, and I have concern about the talent levels next year and beyond, but this thread is definitely a major overreaction.

Right up there with dumbest post ive read on here. Ya, lets just ignore the top 10 win we have. No reason to count it. Next 2 are guaranteed losses, even though we already beat one of those teams and have the other at home which gives us a better chance. Ben hasn’t made the case for good recruits to look at iowa, other than already signing 2 4*’s and taking a PG from D2 and turning him into a projected top 15 pick.
Why don’t we compare Ben in year 1 to Devries year 1 at a school with way more resources and better talent? Bunch of fuggin drama queens on this board

Wow. I bet you're a load of fun to be around. So damn negative. Writing them off before the portal opens or the high school recruits commit.

I'm just happy to see some of the more level-headed folks on this board reasserting themselves this morning.

I’ve known for some time not to check the message board in the first 24 hours after a football loss, but I used to expect basketball fans to maintain at least a bit of sanity after a defeat. Seems that’s no longer the case.

Next what will be worse and then it goes from there. This roster sucks outside Stirtz.
So seriously. Is there any reason why you are quitting on a coach in his very first year at the helm? Were you expecting a Drake roster to compete for a B1G championship? It's a middling team with middling results this year, but you have to give any coach at least 3-4 years to show what they're capable of delivering. After that judgements can be made.

bmac is on track to deliver imo 22 wins this season which would be the 2nd best w-l record accomplished in the last 20 years
and that’s with a sub par roster per even this thread
despite the setbacks it would appear that ben is the best guy we’ve hired post olsen

We suck and should fire everyone and then make Beth walk the plank.
