Guys, he's a first year coach getting ready to take us to the dance! Come on, cut the guy some slack.

McCollum needs time. Threads like these are ridiculous, especially in year one. It's just we've seen the limits of what this team can do, and it's a tough pill to swallow. They're inconsistent at best. Ben needs time to recruit better guys and have his whole team in his system for more than a season, right now only about half have played for him longer than the 20 some odd games so far.

lol replace the Hausen miss & his cash with a serviceable big and this team is at 22 wins.

Next what will be worse and then it goes from there. This roster sucks outside Stirtz.
Absolutely not- first year and he’s doing very well.. it’s always frustrating after a loss and I am one that has shoots it’s mouth off after a bad loss but he’s got this team going forward and give him some time … he’s going to be one of the best Iowa bb coaches me thinks

I'm doing my very best to move on from the past, but I really can't help but wonder what McCaffery would have done with this season's roster - without the D, as per his usual.

Would these same guys have 10 & 20 wins playing under Fran's offensive system and style, or would they be worse off (or better off)??

Regardless, I'm quite happy with the new hire in McCollum and I'm rolling with him. He's got 4 more seasons to prove that this is the absolutely best he can do, both in terms of overall roster talent AND the W/L records.

History tells me he can do a lot better, if given the resources to construct a roster of guys who can/will run his system to the best it can be.

I’m not throwing in the towel but I don’t see good things happening. Ben may be a good coach but NIL is king and Iowa isn’t strong there. If Stirtz wasn’t here Iowa would be a NIT bubble team.

So you recognize our NIL sucks but want Ben fired in less than 3 years because it is his fault he doesn't have more money? I want to keep Ben so we don't fall to the depths of awfulness.

Except Lick. I think that was plenty deserved.
My money goes on Ben staying for awhile. That said he coaches in a very different era. With the players getting paid now and so much money in the sport it raises expectations. Add to that we have a no nonsense AD now who will give Ben the time he needs but in turn expect him to perform.

Ben stepped into his dream job with a great record coming into it. Whole different ball game at this level.

QC - pm the mods and request this thread be deleted. It’s a monumentally bad take. You tend to over-react to circumstances anyway but this is another level - just plain dumb, really dumb. Have it deleted.
I hope he doesn't have kids. imagine the roller coaster of emotions he would put them through.

We need a point guard and a rim protector/rebounder.
WHAT???? No kidding. You remember when McCollum said publicly, his priority was guards and a rim-protecting big, right? Are you struggling to understand that while reading the current offer list, or are you intentionally ignoring those facts to prop up an idiotic narrative? Which 6'8" players are we going after?

Iowa hired the National Coach of the year.

He had nowhere near the success thar Coach Mac is having in his first season...let alone Licky's next 2 seasons.

At least we had Lil Lick and his elbows out dribbling style to fall back on.
