I need to stop thinking about this and get on with my weekend, but almost every last thing about this game sucked big balls.

- PSU shooting the ball like a Top 10 team all day long.
- Iowa going into a complete shell when up 5 with 4:30 to go, when in the double-bonus
- Being outscored 9-2 in last 4 minutes (or whatever the hell it was)
- Coach riding Hausen so much when he hasn't seen a single second of PT since Valentine's Day
- Tate Sage left rotting on the bench for the whole 2nd half
- Stirtz being almost a complete non-factor for most of the game
- Manyawu fouling 3 straight times on one PSU possession that put them in the double-bonus at the end of the game
- Hawks letting 14 seconds roll off the clock before finally fouling on PSU's 2nd to last possession
- etc, etc, etc

The only things that were worth celebrating in this game were Coop's 18 points, the two 'Folgers at the cup!', and the 19 points scored off PSU turnovers. Everything else was a big shidstain.

Coach really needs to work on a new offensive system for next season that sees the team going into shot-taking mode with 8-10 seconds on the shot clock instead of 3-5 like they do now. Holding on to the ball till the bitter end and forcing up tough shots to beat the clock really stands out on how bad that strategy can be in games like this one and the Maryland loss.

I blame Brian. He did so much damage to men's athletics it'll take years to fully recover.
Careful, don't get him going or else we'll start seeing essays about why Iowa not generating any offense in basketball is actually a good thing. But that's why he's called Eyes of Retard.

Unless the Hawks somehow manage to beat either Michigan or Nebraska, they probably won’t be in the ncaa tournament.
The bubble is incredibly weak this year. UCLA and USC also lost today and they were in worse shape on the bubble than Iowa. Iowa is 10-1 in Q3/Q4 games. Yes, Maryland and Penn State are really bad losses. I'd put Iowa at 95%+ to get in even if they lose the next three. The problem is that Iowa has probably solidified itself in the 8/9 game. Maybe they fall to a 10. I don't see them climbing to a 6 or 7 at this point unless they win the next two.

As a player, I never felt embarrassed after losing a game. Frustration, sure.
Absolutely.

Players and coaches at that level just don't get embarrassed.

They give it what they have and are willing to live with the results.

Maybe a rare underprepared performance will cause some embarrassment. But nearly entirely, the team members work far too hard to get embarrassed

Honestly, no matter what the Hawks do in the next 3* games, the best thing that could happen to them is the Selection Committee slotting them into a non-Dayton 11-seed. Or slightly worse, a 10-seed.

Only way Iowa escapes the 8/9 game on the upper side if they win the next 3 and lose a very tight one to Michigan in Chicago, or slip past Michigan for a second time in the BTT and keep winning.

* 3 for sure, but depending on the result of their first BTT game, will be 4 (or more)

I agree, and I fear this loss pretty much locked them into the 8/9 game.

I hope you’re right. But…the Hawks have been screwed (my opinion) out of a bid before, so I’m a little gunshy. Nothing is a lock right now. You never know what the committee will do.

Assuming the expected happens and the Hawks go winless from today until the BTT, all of a sudden the rest of the conference tourneys just a got lot more interesting.

Meaning we want all of the P5 and the upper mid-majors to go as seeded and there isn't a bunch of bid-stealers coming out of them.

What world do you live in?
The real world.

Almost every year there are teams with good resumes that nearly every bracketologist has as “in” the tournament, only to be left out come selection Sunday. If you think the Hawks can lose out and not have it happen to them…..then you are a fool.

Beat either Michigan or Nebraska….I’ll feel confident. Lose out…then I’ll be sweating bullets on Selection Sunday.

Just stop. People can read.

I responded to your claim in post #530 that said Iowa would "probably" be out with losses to Mich and Neb.

Don't now make it a "possibly" thing. You said what you said

That’s just my opinion….which carries absolutely no weight with the committee and doesn’t matter in the slightest. Just like yours.

Nobody cares if I’m right or wrong…not even me. Should Iowa lose out and still make the tournament….great! If they don’t…then they don’t.

I find it rather ironic that you of all people are pulling the “you said what you said” card, considering all the times you have been called out for things YOU have said…then later denied…and when your own words are quoted back you claimed you were “mischaracterized”.

Probably…possibly….who cares? Neither are an absolute. Get a life.

I care. That's why I took offense to your "probably" comment. Nobody else chose those words for you.

Yes, I was mischaracterized all those times. Read better.

Get a life? You're the one who laughs at nearly ALL of my posts, regardless of what they have to do with

Yes, I was mischaracterized all those times. Read better. No you weren't, and it was proven over and over again. Nobody else chose your words for you. Write better.

You "took offense" at my opinion, which had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with you? SMH. Again...get a life.

Sometimes you just need to let things go. Your belief that you are always right, and obsession with having "the last word" just makes you look foolish. Try a little humility, and don't be an a*s all the time. Stop picking fights with people over every little thing. Then maybe....just maybe...you won't be the board punching bag and considered nothing more than comic relief.

I'm done with this discussion. Have at it.

He gets off on it man, just have to ignore folks like that. Their whole existence is being a contrarian and arguing, they are exhausting humans. It's the guy at the party you immediately regret starting a conversation with.

1. Yes, your opinion had enough to do with me for me to have taken offense to it. For many reasons, bad sports fans/poor fan behavior is something that's important to me.

And for a few reasons, your claim that Iowa would "probably" not be in the dance, with losses to Mich and Neb, is an example of annoying fan behavior.

You guys constantly take offense to/complain about the Hawkeye coaches and players. So I ask, what do any of those complaints "have to do with you whatsoever"?

2. One couldn't look any more foolish than to argue with someone about the meaning of his own posts. Believe it or not, I know what I have and have not posted. And, believe it or not, I know what those posts were and were not intended to communicate.

The only thing that's been "proven" is that people need to read better and/or be considerate enough to not mischaracterize others.

I'm mean, one can't make this stuff up. It's not like opinions were being argued. This was archived print (and MY print) people were trying to "argue" with me about. Believable behavior only from sports fans.

Maybe at times I could have written something more clearly. But when those posts were questioned, I gave clarification in painstaking detail. After that point, I can't help those that still somehow don't have a clue.

3. Is having strong enough takes to have ready responses the same as an obsession with having the last word?

4. Picking fights? You guys are allowed to say whatever offensive crap you wish, but others aren't allowed to have reactions to it? Again, you guys have problems with coaches and players. And I have a problem with those who complain about players and coaches. So, here we are.

5. Whether I'm viewed as a punching bag or comic relief, it's completely predictable coming from clueless/bad fans. And it bothers me not. I'm here to educate.

Curious though, how one could be considered both a punching bag and a fight starter.

6. Again, you clearly leave more laughing emojis for my posts than you are admitting to. You've been stalking me on here for years

I simply don't see how we win this game. Ped State is hitting everything, Hawks can't rebound and continue to turn it over. Hawks just don't have it today.
So I'm guessing it's fair to say you also, at that point, "simply didn’t see how" Iowa could lead by 5 with four minutes to go.

I simply don't see how anyone could have been of that thought, at that point in a close game.

Is it simply very little understanding of what's being watched? Or maybe just a general low level of confidence in life? Probably some of both?
