You forgot to include being short handed because of key injuries. Let’s be totally fair, and not just pick and choose what fits your argument. Yeah, definitely some games that we didn’t seem ready to play. Pope is still a better floor coach than anyone we’ve had here in years. The thing he has to get better at is his sub patterns. Drives me crazy.
I’m also tired of fans saying he can’t recruit. By almost all accounts, everyone thought he had a loaded roster this season. Injuries, and perhaps Diaboute being overhyped, have mitigated the loaded roster agreement.
Look, getting High School players signed just isn’t as important as it used to be. Pope will have a really good roster next season. Just needs to have a healthy season, with no key injuries, and then see what happens.
Yeah, the injuries suck, but Pope rolled the dice on JQ and that was a bad decision.
He was also trying to play way too many players. That wont work.
Recruiting most certainly is a problem. The last freshman class had legit stars all over it and we got none of them, with 22 million to spend. He also only got 1 pg and he was injury prone.
Another point on the injuries, you can only use that for so long. When you sweep Tennessee, beat SJ and win at Arkansas, you told on yourself. You can't follow those wins up with 25 and 35 point beat downs and losses at home to uga, unc and Mizzou.
As far as what we thought of this roster, well, it should have been good, it's better than 10 losses, but none of us is making 5 million a year to evaluate players and judge who is a good fit, Pope is getting that money and he’s in that chair. He needed to get Dent, Wilkerson and the kid that went to Michigan, or at least 2 of them. How do you get beat out by that idiot at UCLA for Dent?
