Whew! What a day! That’s the 14 hour Wrestling day I needed.

Tailgate scene was like a Football Saturday…good food, drinks and Wrestling talk. OSU girls team worked their tale off, and with a smile!

125- Troy is just the better Wrestler. This match was similar to National duals with Troy being a little more conservative towards the end with his lead. 25 is going to be a scattershot with seeds.

133- I can’t articulate what I watched? The speed and violence on his slide-by is mind blowing. It was kinda funny that he seemed to be “big brothering” Drake in a slide-by competition. That was sure enough fun to watch!

41- He was looking for that cradle the entire match. He’s so rangy, people are going to stop shorting on him. When you get in on him, it has to feel like Wrestling an octopus.

49- There was no point in sending Swiderski if he’s not 100%.

57- People are staying away from certain hand positions with Lando. He’s going to have trouble piling up points on elite hand fighters…but he will get to some attacks and score. Scoring on him, good luck.

65- With great power comes great responsibility. Caliendo, who was the undisputed Finalist to begin the season showed up. Dee is so talented, people expect too much. Iowa put a perfect gameplan together to beat Dee (and Vega/Lando) which worked. Right now, Dee is playing match manager instead of letting it fly. He’s going to be fine as he matures. Think how much faster competition is for a freshman and then imagine trying to manage that mentally and physically. As he seasons, it will slow down for him.

74- What I saw was a horsepower differential. Other than that, Facundo wins that one if he blocks Kennedy off on the TD exchange. It was a razor thin mistake.

84- Zach will get it figured out, similar to Dee. He’s working so hard for his bread and butter, while trying to think a step ahead. It was completely planned against. It is also of note, Arnold ain’t no bum, he’s gone to the wire with ranked AAs recently.

97- Fan Favorite! Did what he was supposed to do!

285- Proper! Extremely excited for Konnor to end his GIA career that way.

So, A+ weekend for me! The atmosphere was so loud, I only managed one stink eye from Brands. I had an entire arsenal of insults planned out and he only heard one. What a great event and super proud of what is going on in Stillwater!
Iowa does not game plan, lol. That is one of their fans biggest complaints!

Then you have some intelligent and progressive guys.

Peterson, 100% was working for takedowns while avoiding that cradle. If the coaches didn’t work that in and Peterson did, bravo to him.

Gabe was also avoiding underhooks like it was his job.

So, maybe they don’t? But it sure looked like it to me.

People just make stuff up. They definitely understand tendencies and plan for them. Kale P was definitely avoiding shots where his head was in the middle so he could avoid being cradled. At the end he knew he needed one to win and he made the mistake of getting stuck underneath with his head in the middle and it was all Vega needed

Thank you!

Vega worked for that the entire match and Peterson was staying out of danger while putting Vega in situations where he had to scramble out to avoid a TD. It was obvious that he had a plan to avoid that cradle sich. Kudos to him for going after a score at the end knowing he had to be perfect to get it done.

Agree. I can see Dee becoming way more offensive down the road. Some guys when they don't fear being taken down they save energy until they need to get one. Dee will outgrow that
Agree, I worry less about Dee because he has a borderline unstoppable takedown he just hesitates to pull the trigger. There are other guys in the lineup who don't pull the trigger because I'm not sure they have the offense. That concerns me a lot more.

Corby, do you really think the Brands game plan? This is one of Iowa fans biggest complaints, that the coaches dont watch film and learn from past losses.

I was there - as he was walking toward the exit he gave the stalling symbol to the crowd multiple times then at the end he flipped off the crowd with both hands.
Was right above the exit, we were all getting a double twin Tom & Terry - the Gable up yours stall fist!

The main thing I came away from the match as to the current state of Hawkeye wrestling was how much Iowa backed up. They could have been called (stalled) for backing off the mat much more than they were. Gable must be really pissed with his #1 disciple.

If this had been us backing up in Carver, the crowd would have gone nuts.

We still talking about Dee here? Can’t be. Not even sure he let his team down Sunday evening. Caliendo is a tough SOB that would be a national champ if not for MM.
Part of this is based on friends close to wrestling. They have said coach has had to talk to dee several times. The sitting on his knees and not fighting until the ends of matches is not a good habit to be forming.

But.. in no way have I said he isn't very talented or that he couldn't have great success. Just needs to give 100% all of the time.

Amazing how much this team has improved overall over the couse of this yr. Still areas to work on, but the young talent is improving. Went from narrowly losing to Iowa early in the yr there and just kicked their buttons now here. Huge turn around!

David has the program absolutely going in the right direction and the enthusiasm around the program is intoxicating. Hes getting us back to where this program belongs, on top.
