Really enjoyed watching Zahid and some of the others mat side. Seems like he was trolling the Brands bros. Good stuff.

A human interest side story on Zahid yesterday. I was standing next to a Hispanic woman and her son along with a white lady. Zahid was walking by and talking to others when the son saw him and asked if that was Zahid. The 15 year old froze and stared until Zahid got closer. We encouraged the boy to go meet Zahid and shake his hand. The boy finally managed the courage to meet Zahid and shook his hand. Zahid asked the mom to take a picture and the mom and other lady fumbled for their phones. After the pictures, Zahid put his hand on the star-struck boy and spoke to him in Spanish. When Zahid left, the boy came back to his mom and other lady with eyes the size of half dollars and a grin as big as Dallas and he hugged both women. The boy then walked out to a grassy area and walked in circles while talking to himself and clenching his fists and looking to the sky.
Visiting with mom and the other lady I found out they were from Dallas and this was the first year for the young man to wrestle varsity for his school. The other lady told him that if he worked hard this year and qualified for state, she would take him to the duel yesterday. She also said she bought her tickets in November but didn’t tell the boy until he made state. The mom told me that her son idolizes Zahid with posters in his room and to actually meet Zahid was beyond her wildest dreams. Mom added she pushed her son to wrestle as he is small in size but she wanted to keep him busy and off the streets. The son returned with the same big grin and told his mom that this was the best day of his life.
I would like to know what they thought after attending the duel. I hope this young man has success on the mat and in life and meeting Zahid was the difference.

Dee was an embarrassment to himself and his team. In the old days this would be handled internally, as the team would kick his a--, deservedly. This has been a problem with Dee all year. DT needs to have a serious talk with him about whether or not he wants to put in the work to be here. If not, see ya and what a wasted talent. But it happens.
This is a ridiculous take And way overboard. He’s a true freshman for jiminy‘s sake. not everyone is Jax Forrest

I had an inkling before the dual that Dee was gonna drop this one. Caliendo coming off a loss recently wanted to get his revenge and he wrestles a solid match.

I hate it when athletes lose and go back to the bench and laugh it up with the team. Drives me insane in pro sports… I very much appreciated that when you could see Dee in the background during another match he was up with the team in support but was obviously disappointed and not laughing and joking. Hes a winner and I am hoping this spring boards him into NCAAs.

Agreed. He'll adjust. Could I nitpick and go "too much management, not enough whooping butt", sure. But he's trying things and it'll be good to see how he adjusts.

Whew! What a day! That’s the 14 hour Wrestling day I needed.

Tailgate scene was like a Football Saturday…good food, drinks and Wrestling talk. OSU girls team worked their tale off, and with a smile!

125- Troy is just the better Wrestler. This match was similar to National duals with Troy being a little more conservative towards the end with his lead. 25 is going to be a scattershot with seeds.

133- I can’t articulate what I watched? The speed and violence on his slide-by is mind blowing. It was kinda funny that he seemed to be “big brothering” Drake in a slide-by competition. That was sure enough fun to watch!

41- He was looking for that cradle the entire match. He’s so rangy, people are going to stop shorting on him. When you get in on him, it has to feel like Wrestling an octopus.

49- There was no point in sending Swiderski if he’s not 100%.

57- People are staying away from certain hand positions with Lando. He’s going to have trouble piling up points on elite hand fighters…but he will get to some attacks and score. Scoring on him, good luck.

65- With great power comes great responsibility. Caliendo, who was the undisputed Finalist to begin the season showed up. Dee is so talented, people expect too much. Iowa put a perfect gameplan together to beat Dee (and Vega/Lando) which worked. Right now, Dee is playing match manager instead of letting it fly. He’s going to be fine as he matures. Think how much faster competition is for a freshman and then imagine trying to manage that mentally and physically. As he seasons, it will slow down for him.

74- What I saw was a horsepower differential. Other than that, Facundo wins that one if he blocks Kennedy off on the TD exchange. It was a razor thin mistake.

84- Zach will get it figured out, similar to Dee. He’s working so hard for his bread and butter, while trying to think a step ahead. It was completely planned against. It is also of note, Arnold ain’t no bum, he’s gone to the wire with ranked AAs recently.

97- Fan Favorite! Did what he was supposed to do!

285- Proper! Extremely excited for Konnor to end his GIA career that way.

So, A+ weekend for me! The atmosphere was so loud, I only managed one stink eye from Brands. I had an entire arsenal of insults planned out and he only heard one. What a great event and super proud of what is going on in Stillwater!

What was the deal with Dee escaping then walking to the edge? Announcers commented both times and were critical of the move.

People get pissed at Dee when he wrestles like that because he has SOOOOOO much potential. He doesnt look to be in shape anywhere close to the rest of the team. Trying to manage matches is one thing but wrestling on the edge, on your knees, and taking your sweet time to get back to the center all points to him having cardio issues. If he wasnt great at wrestling tired he'd of lost way sooner this season.

Hopefully this loss becomes a positive for him.

The Good:
We dominated Iowa, felt good to finally get one. Happy for the guys who showed up and wrestled well. Vega, Jax, Landon, Merrill and Doucet.

The Bad:
Dee was hard to watch. His lack of effort and hustle are embarrassing. He's a talent for sure but he appears to be out of shape and overconfident. Hopefully this is a wake up call.

We need to be recruiting over 174 and 184. Ryder hurt or healthy he hasn't impressed me at all this year and doesn't seem to show much promise moving forward with little to no offense.
Facundo has wrestled very well, he almost had Kennedy yesterday and just didn't finish. I don't think he's Finalist but he's def an AA type wrestler.

I do wonder if we can shift everyone around and try to fit in everyone, we have a stacked Freshmen room and an incoming class that's equally as good!

Apparently Robideau had a limp walking out on line up introduction, anyone knows anything if he is still banged up?

One loss to a top 4 guy and returning finalist who he beat earlier in the year and some idiots want him benched. Tough crowd. Dee will be just fine; I think he would serve himself well by not doing the slow walking around, it definitely gives off the "I'm winded and out of shape" vibes but I don't think he's necessarily winded. I think it's just showmanship/ rope-a-dope. Do I like it, nope but if it's what he thinks he needs to do and he can win then so be it.

I think what you are seeing with Dee, Vega, and Landon are teams are starting to figure out ways to counter/slow down what they like to do. With Vega, don't shoot for the ankles because if you do he will counter you easily and with Dee you defend the double leg. It's now up to them and our coaches to come up with ways to counter.

Wanted Dee to win to avoid the 4 seed because MM is on a different level than everyone else this year. Would like to meet him in the finals vs the Semi's. Dee will be fine. I've got faith in him.

There are multiple ways I see him attaining a seed that puts him on the bottom half.

1. Caliendo takes another loss IN the big 10 semis. If he makes the finals, it will be tight between Blaze and Dee.
2. Dee drops a match in the semis and slides to the 6.
3. Dee wins the Big 12 in dominant fashion and Blaze struggles to a 3rd place finish in the big 10s. *still a maybe

Assuming Dee wins the Big12, I just don’t see a world where he isn’t the 2 or 3. Caliendo isn’t winning the Big 10 so even if he beats Blaze, he has 4 losses against Dee’s 1 and Dee has what, like 6 top 10 wins.

I still think he has a good shot at the 2/3 if he wins out from here. Let’s assume he does and MM runs through b10 tourney.

Likely in the semis of that you get Blaze v Caliendo part 2. If Blaze wins then it’s MM, Blaze, Dee, Bianchi? If Caliendo wins, it’s higher risk but I think the big12 champ gets the nod over b10 bronze both having gone 1-1 to same guy.

If Dee wins out, 1 loss vs 3 losses. Conf champ vs non champ. I see Dee edging out Cali to be honest. 1-1 makes is wash for head to head.

I appreciated that he didn’t sulk. Took his loss like a man. Looked his opponent in the eye, shook his hand and gave him a tap on the chest congratulating him. He also went and shook Iowa’s coaches hand instead of running off to pout!

He takes parts of and sometimes entire matches off and that let's his team down . This wasn't a once off. So sorry, not ridiculous. But its correctable and if hed give 100% all match, every match, his ceiling is very high. He is so talented and a great athlete, I just want to see him be engaged 100% all of the time, if possible.

Thank you guys for giving these kids, two Dads and a Mom a great memory. I’m sorry I didn’t get more pics.

But I’m happy to report that this was great for these young kids and their parents. They were planning on watching on TV due to fear of what was being reported on ticket prices.

Love those pics. They look like kids that really appreciated the experience. I’d wager they have great parents.
