wow, what a complete game. I thought the refs did exactly what they should in any game, they were consistent. In a big game they let a little physicality go.
Wow, everyone stepped up when they needed to. Kylie did exactly what she should, defense and a bit of offense. Callie L comes in a plays sound. Addie and Journey both sound.
I'm only left wondering where is that defense all the time. They sometimes play scared/intimidated.... not today, keep it up....
"A little physicality." Well, that's one way to put it. I, OTOH, thought I was watching Iowa try to play basketall while Michigan was playing rugby. And then Iowa said, "Okay, ya wanna play rugby? We can do that too." And the Hawkeyes then ran 'em right outta the damn building.

Refs let everything go. That’s the easiest way to play. You know nothing is getting called.

Refs were terrible, but to their credit they never switched up how they called it.

Iowa has had a couple of really good defensive efforts this year, Today was off the charts. Btw Jan and staff made a really nice adjustment on the offensive end, When Michigan kept trapping on the high ball screen and causing huge problems, Iowa started flaring farther out on the screen and the screener immediately cut to the basket. Didn’t seem Michigan had an effective counter.

That is our 7th win over a ranked team this year. No idea how to find where that ranks with the rest of the country, though.
This game was different. Iowa played 2 elite teams previously and were run off the court. This was an elite team that came within a few points of beating UConn, UCLA, and Vandy, all number one seeds. They proved today that they can play with these teams.

There were a couple defense breakdowns in the 3rd quarter that resulted in two wide open 3s. Overall, the best defensive effort I can recall from any Iowa team - ever. The Hawks were near perfect today. I didn't mean to be critical.
One of the wide open 3s was intentional.. girl had a fugly shot and hadn’t made a 3 in 10 games.. funny enough she hit 2 3s.. reminded me of Raven Johnson in the final four semifinal.

That description has already been provided. All you have to do is read it.
Turns out I already did. :)

Like I said, I would be willing to take your word for it. Don't read anything Machiavellian into it...................................................................................................................................................................or should you? ;)

This is only for the Big10

UCLA is 10-1, MI only 4-4
Thanks. Looks like we're 4th in the nation just after a quick glance through. Behind South Carolina (8) and Texas/UCLA (10)

Hey maybe now we'll be ranked ahead of Ohio State........🙃

I’ve heard it here many times. Jan is in over her head, Hannah and Kylie are playing too much. That’s why you have to love this forum 😉
You say these things to encourage them to try harder and do better and stop sucking at whatever it is they're doing not well...............................:)

Folks who ragged on Hanna / Kylie / coach JJ should take a seat now.
My point still stands on Hannah's offense. Needs to go through her process quicker. She's out their backing down her post defender, sizing them up like it's streetball 1 on 1 and she's got all the time to just work whatever she wants and/or weight room them............

This isn't the NBA where they just LET you play iso ball out of boredom.

(yes, there's a lot of exagerrations in my post for the grumpy grandpas............;))

IMO, that's what was so disappointing during that 3 game skid. They are much better than they showed and it was the perimeter defense that really struggled and a lot of that IMO had to do with losing McCabe who I think was underappreciated defensively. Inserting Stremlow into the starting lineup was a difference maker IMO. She's very disruptive out there as she showed again today.

The communication and switching on defense today was superb.

Iowa playing for a 2 seed in both tourneys now.
Well they're big favorites in their last 2 games, so I'm pretty confident in a second place finish and a 2 seed in the BTT. A 2 seed in the NCAA tournament might require a loss by someone who's already there regardless of what Iowa does. Beating Michigan again in the BTT would probably do it.

Ya I think 3 seed might be it unless they get a lot of help

Iowa was 12th in the NET rankings going into this game. Beat #6 Michigan for their 7th Quad 1 win of the season, which keeps them 5th best in the country in that category.

Just have vs Illinois and at Wisconsin remaining on the schedule. The Illini are 33rd in the NET right now, but depending on tonight's results and how they finish around the upcoming Iowa game, that could potentially become a Quad 1 win opportunity for Iowa. Wisconsin will be Quad 2 no matter what, so just gotta hope the Hawks stay hot and finish the regular season strong to give themselves the best resume possible to potentially secure a 2 seed.

It's not gonna be easy and there's still a lot of work to be done for that to happen.

Not to be a buzz kill, they played inspired today, but those losses were on the road. Hopefully they can bring that effort to Chicago, and put some fear in UCLA in a couple of weeks...

There's no question that Iowa plays better at home than on the road. Who doesn't? With that said, they are now 11-0 with Stremlow starting, and UCLA is just a very very good team who will be a heavy favorite to win the tournament. What today did was prove to themselves that they can play with anybody. That confidence can carry a team a long way.
