A true talent.
Might not have gotten the acclaims others in his profession received , but based on his performances, Robert Duvall
was up there with the best.

One of the best actors of all time, imho. His character in Apocalypse Now was amazing. And of course Tom in the Godfather. RIP
RIP is a more appropriate thread title when people pass away, especially for a legend, but Tango is going to Tango.
His fav role was playing Augustus "Gus" McCrae in "Lonesome Dove" from 1988. He based his character's Texas Ranger mannerisms on Sammy Baugh, a QB for the Washington Redskins (and TCU before that). The book won a Pulitzer.
I never really liked westerns but I like that one a lot. Diane Lane didn't hurt - Danny Glover, Tommy Lee Jones also did some of their best work. Hollywood cant do men anymore but Lonesome checked that box. They have to get actors from Australia or UK

I loved Duvall and think he was a great actor.
However, nobody “rests in peace” after death.
You either die and go to be with Jesus Christ or option 2, which is eternal torment.
RIP seems disingenuous under the circumstances.
He was just as much of a son as Santino and Michael!
I wish. The quote about reading and filming Dove was from Duval but I forgot to add his name after the quote but I fixed it.
I recall two of his early performances. He played a German soldier in the 60’s TV Series “Combat!”, and Boo Radley in “To Kill a Mockingbird”. Then came his great roles in the decades that followed.
I was hoping someone would mention that role! Loved that movie. If I recall correctly, that movie didn't do well upon initial release or it had limited distribution. Critics got a hold of it and it received new life. It started out as "The Ace" and was re-released and re-branded as "The Great Santini."

Man - a true loss to the industry. One of my top favorites of all time. I’ll have to watch a few of his movies this weekend. RIP
I always thought he was underrated as an actor even with all of the acclaim he got. Unlike the DeNiros and Pacinos of the world, you could lose yourself in the actual performance and not see the star you recognized behind it.

Just read another Duvall quote about Lonesome Dove
"When I was doing The Godfather, I knew we were doing something big. When I was doing Lonesome Dove, I got the same feeling. I've only felt that a couple of times in my life." ( New York Tribune, Feb 6, 1989)
