In all seriousness, how can we fix the atmosphere in Carver. Kinnick is one of the toughest places to play in the country. We have a great fanbase but carver gives us zero advantage. I’m convinced it’s a problem with the venue and not the fans.
It's a problem with winning games. Plain and simple.

People show up to Iowa wrestling because of the expectations.

They still show up for Iowa women's basketball because the Caitlin Clark effect hasn't entirely worn off yet for the fickle fans, and they haven't been priced out yet.

Win games against teams like Purdue and people will show up, even if it means kicking the lazy, non-invested students out.

If you want to blame any subsection of the fanbase, blame them. They manufacture excuses to not show up. Winning shouldn't have anything to do with going to games for the young adults that actually attend the university.

I mean f*** I even went to some games during the Lickliter era because I loved watching Iowa basketball growing up and wanted to use up the opportunities I had to attend games.

It's always been about excuses for the students. The rest of the fanbase it's about being competitive against actual competition (i.e. primarily in the B10).

What's your expectations for next year? More of this? Or what?
Can't set realistic expectations anymore until you know what the roster is gonna look like.........

I mean that has ALWAYS been the case. The difference is you didn't have the rampant transfers both in and out after each season, and could trust in recruiting a little bit more. You actually knew who was coming back, for the most part, one, two or even three years out.

We just don't make 3 point shots anymore aside Stirtz
None of them are solid high D1 3 pt shooters.

A few of them could get away with it hiding in the lower-pressure mid major levels...........can't hide in the Big Ten and against high level defense.

The speed of the game is a real thing, even between mid majors and majors. You have to process split seconds faster and make quicker decisions "under control" without sacrificing fundamentals and form. It's more and more difficult the higher the level, and people do take it for granted even amongst those that acknowledge this factor.

Let’s not get crazy…dumb post
Nothing dumb about it. This game had that Lick era feeling. Couldn't score, couldn’t defend, lazy passes, couldn’t rebound, couldn’t make free throws, couldn’t make three-pointers… without Stirtz, this team would be a disaster - a one or two game slump? I sure hope so…. But I felt the same kind of helplessness I used to feel with Lick’s teams. Manyawu 8 points, kotch 3, Combs 0, Banks 9, Folgi 5, Jirak 6, Hausen 3, Sage 2, Howard 2.
this was truly a pathetic performance. I hope we can turn it around.

I thought Howard would be a better player, hes just not. Besides Cam/Sage, I don't want another drake guy on the team next year. There are walk ons better than Matteoni but he somehow has a scholarship. I get there was an empty cupboard when Ben came in and culture building or whatever but the reliance on Drake transfers signals a bit of lazy recruiting. Theres too much raw talent in the portal that this was the best roster that could be assembled.

And I never question coach’s decision on who should play. But other people have also mentioned that our coach seem to favor his Drake players and seems more comfortable with them on the court. Anyway, I really hope they play differently against Nebraska. This gave brought back terrible memories. :(

He does have a quality big but does not play him
I wouldn't say he is a quality big yet. He is a serviceable, below the rim player who can shoot a little. Hopefully he ends up shooting the ball close to what Garza did from deep. They need a rim protector and he is not that right now at all.

Lolol.. You mean the same Carver that the women's team won pretty much every game in for two years on the way to a program record 65 wins in two seasons? Its the product on the floor.....

In response to Buffalo 43 above I would modify your post to say Jirak played like a freshman big tonight. Don't know why people want to write Jirak off. I thought he accounted for himself well playing for the first time in the Big 10. I scratch my head wondering why Ben has seemed so reluctant to play him in conference games. We badly need rebounding and more inside presence. Bigs in the portal really cost as Ben found out last cycle. We need to develop Jirak and then recruit to add to the inside game.

Honestly I can’t believe a game like this hasn’t happened to this roster yet. Severely undermanned against top level teams. Biggest disappointment to me is the lackadaisical ****. falling asleep defensively on inbounds plays, the inbound play taken away by Braden smith, etc…..I love McCollum and he’s gonna win big here, but he has an undermanned roster and this is his 1st year through the Big Ten too as a coach. They’re 18-7, let’s see what happens the rest of the way. It’s only 1 year under Ben and there were always gonna be roadblocks like this, especially this year.
