One thing they should take from the film…the Maryland players made some beautiful pump-fakes. Very effective.Exactly. The old adage that its great to get the win and then show them the film of the mistake, BUT at some point (after 19 games)! You need to stop making the same ones.
Jan should have explained that to her after the 1st time she did it. She didn’t, otherwise she wouldn’t have done it a 2nd and 3rd time. Most players in college know the rule but unfortunately we have a senior that doesn’t.Going forward, tell HS she can run baseline. Tell girls to stop forcing passes at top of key to guarded players because they are so anxious to give up ball.
Tonight?Kylie's decision making has not been great tonight
What mens game was even close to this??On both the men's and women's side we keep seeing these late-half meltdowns, and we keep saying it's a great learning opportunity.
Sooo....when do you suppose we'll finally fully grasp the lesson?
She's not playing in crunch time because Jan trusts her starters more. It is what it is. It was pretty much a team collapse at the end of the 4th quarter. With that said, they beat the #15 team on the road for their 4th Big10 road win in as many tries. She must be doing something right. And once again Deal may as well have not even taken her warmups off coming out of half time. Someone please tell me again that she's not playing during crunch time because of turnovers and then go back and watch our guard play in the 4Q. And the defense in the 4Q was horrendous by most of the guards. Maryland 12-15 points in each of the 3Q's and THIRTY FOUR points in the 4th. Really......
It’s a bit of a mystery and as I labeled a concern. Her D tonight was great. Missed a couple of shots she normally makes but some good assists. I’m can’t help but think as most of Iowas players were melting down and throwing the ball all over the place that AD wouldn’t have been a better option. But JJ is about loyalty and experience. And once again Deal may as well have not even taken her warmups off coming out of half time. Nope. A Senior who has played as much as she has should be able to complete an inbounds pass and have the knowledge she doesn't need to just stand there...Idiotic statement
And they haven’t for 40 years!Just because you reach in violently and get a hand in the ball, doesn’t mean it’s a jump ball. They don’t call enough fouls on that stuff.
Why would you trust your starters going forward against pressure after what you saw tonight? She's not playing in crunch time because Jan trusts her starters more. It is what it is. 4-5 years with them vs 3 bad minutes? Why would you trust your starters going forward against pressure after what you saw tonight?
If she would have played Journey more in the 4th quarter it probably doesn't go to overtime. She's not playing in crunch time because Jan trusts her starters more. It is what it is. Nah you gotta be more situational than that. You’re being too simplistic. It’s a team that’s struggled against pressure. Figure out your best close out 5. I’m sorry it doesn’t include HS. It’s situational not personal.4-5 years with them vs 3 bad minutes?
Love Journey's game. She's a rebound machine with a nose for the ball. Makes very few mistakes, especially for a freshman. If she would have played Journey more in the 4th quarter it probably doesn't go to overtime.
It’s a basketball game, not life or death.Oh my gosh. I am going from thrilled how we played for 97% of the game to absolutely infuriated with the worst collapse I have seen in my life the last 3:15 to my heart still pounding and being so freaking frustrated but happy we played well in ot.
Not enough. Especially those last 3 minutes.Sure, but how many minutes did Addie Deal get?
Why do they have Hannah throw it for God's love
Yeah , ranked #10 , lost to #1 and #10 at game time. Battling every game and coming out on top. Team is gelling and stupid fans are yelling!I agree 100% she is lost at times
Any big ten road win is an achievement! You know what? They don't deserve chips and salsa after that. They get rice cakes and Great Value catsup.
Why, she dropped an inbound pass and almost lost the game?Yes!
Thanks for that brilliant insight!Maryland is actually pretty garbage. This wasn't a quality win.
High school? Hannah struggled tonight, especially towards the end, but she's won games for them as well and was just named Big10 player of the week for 2 straight outstanding games. In any case Jan isn't removing her from the lineup at the end of games so everyone is just going to have to deal with it. 17-2, 8-0, 1st place in the Big10. She knows what she's doing.Nah you gotta be more situational than that. You’re being too simplistic. It’s a team that’s struggled against pressure. Figure out your best close out 5. You're nothing if not consistentNot enough. Especially those last 3 minutes.

Dude you’re not even arguing the point. Don’t coach br big 10 weekly awards. Coach situationally and what’s best for your team.High school? Hindsight is better than foresight I realize but with the way HS was playing late in regulation, might have been better to go small or go with Houston. This old ex coach might have gone small. Inbounding after a made shot-run the baseline and maybe have someone else make inbounds pass.
So is your decision making. Also I know no one wants to approach the subject, but they are showing highlights of the game. HS was just horrific those last 3 mins. She’s gotta be more of a calming influence. Her decision making and play was just brutal.
