IOWA could be 19-5 after the next 7 games. Only 1 "bad" loss so far

He was 500 at Drake but considering how bad Drake had been he did a good job. But I do think he’s a solid coach.
They were like 14-50 the two years before ge took over…he had Drake moving the right direction.. lucky for him he took the chance to improve his lot and Drake found someone who thought ge found his dream job ( with an AA son!).

Crucial games all…I can see 6-1 and I can see 1-6. I see UI struggling on the road unless they clean it up quickly.
I thought in November it would take til mid-January to see what this team was like…. Something close to .500 conference is realistic, I believe. Far from a “failure” many here are declaring. (My humble opinion.)

With our lack of size, I think Ben has done a heckuva job so far.

I honestly didn't think we had a shot at Purdue; instead, we were up 9 in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, Purdue couldn't miss in the 2nd half. :(

We've had some tough losses so far against some very good teams; it's time to make some hay with the next 7 games. ;)

If those tweets are real and the news is true, Oregon's already sinking ship is doomed without those two.

They are the "names" on that roster.

James (see below) is an Oregon beat writer.

Nate Bittle (out a month with foot injury)
7'0" Center
16.3 pts, 6.7 rebs, 2.0 assists, 2.3 blocks, 46,9% FG, 36.9% from 3

Jackson Shelstad (shooting hand injury)
6'1" Guard
15.6 pts, 2.9 rebs, 4.9 assists, 39.1% FG, 31.4% from 3

The difference was that Smith did a really good job of asserting himself offensively in the second half. He wanted the ball in his hands and he made really good decisions scoring on his own and creating for others. He was very passive in the first half going 0-2 with zero points. He finished 6-9 for 16 points.

They will be a tough team for anyone to beat, esp at Mackey.

I'm a little more optimistic than you (who isn't 😀?). I feel like 20 is probably a pretty good over/under number right now with an equal chance of being above or below that number. That means they would have gone 8-6 in their last 14 games and finished 20-11/10-10.
Sounds about right…😉

Show up and bring the defense for each game and I like our chances in all of these. Those west coast games always seem tricky in sports, though.

Oregon's top 2 players are out with injury. Gotta take advantage of that, for sure.

Except for ISU. Everything runs through Smith. ISU has great defensive guards. Smith only had 11 points and only 2 net assists (after turnovers). That's how you beat Purdue. I don't know that anyone in the Big has a frontcourt like that.

I think today saved the season in terms of home attendance.

Combine today's win with looking sporty @ Purdue the previous game; there's reason to start believing again.

I think if the Hawks had lost this afternoon, Carver would have looked "McCaffery era-esque" for the Rutgers (Tues. night) & USC [following Wed.] games coming up. Not as bad as FM's last couple seasons, but not packed like it was for the Illinois game.

Today was a big win for my morale, and I'm sure I'm not alone. A loss today, and I'm sure I would be pretty down for sure.

Being midweek games might hurt attendance a bit.

And Rutgers being so bad might hurt, too.

Hopefully I am wrong. :)

Our next 2 games, both at home:

RUTGERS: Tues, Jan 20, 7:30 pm, BTN

USC:............Wed, Jan 28, 6:00 pm, BTN

They controlled every aspect of the game today. That is what I expected against Minnesota & somewhat against Illinois. Even Purdue, I feel we are equal to at home or a neutral court. The illness thing was very real, I believe.

Now is the chance to rattle off several wins before seeing Michigan & Nebraska. Very much in play for higher than a 7 seed still.

Can't take any game for granted, especially on the road.

But what's up with Michigan right now? Lose at home to Wisconsin and now trailing Oregon at half.
Not just the 2 games you mentioned. Also struggled mightily against PSU and Washington.

Then a visit from 26-0 #1 Nebraska three days later.
The thing I noticed about Nebraska vs us in Ken Pom….they are Top 30 in the country in “luck” and we’re in the 300s. In fact, of the top 25 kenpom teams, we have the 3rd lowest luck rating. That’s gotta turn at some point I’d think…

How do they measure this? What metrics illuminate this factor?
In baseball,it is pretty solidly isolated( hard hit balls that do not find grass) ect.

Their problems and limitations will show in the NCAA tournament vs uber athletic teams like Texas Tech or Houston that dig in on the defensive end. Think Iowa vs Oregon in the Covid year NCAA tournament.
