Maybe if officials actually called the game properly, this kind of crap would not happen.
I've long been of the opinion that it's amazing fights don't break out a couple times in every game, men and women. Basketball has to be the most frustrating game to put up with repeated instances of unfair and incompetent officiating. The refs have the final word. They can say 2+2 is five, and you're just supposed to accept it. And almost all the time, acceptance is what happens. That's pretty amazing, not that a scuffle actually occurs on rare occasions. At least that's how it looks to me as someone who has played quite a bit of basketball, coached a little, and even reffed a bit.

Basketball has gone from a no contact sport to a full contact sport.
Hand checking, backing in, the list goes on and on.
Refs don't know what to call anymore.

Clip pls.
In prehistoric times, there were no video cameras in our pockets. One fight I remember happened in a game against WI. Tricia Blair was on the team, so it was in the mid-80s. Two bigs got into a scuffle under the basket and continued to roll around punching while the other eight players ran to the other end of the court. The crowd roared like WWF fans. No one was ejected.

I think they allowed more physical play by the women back then because they thought it would draw bigger crowds.
