In all seriousness, I go into every game with the expectation that we might lose.

Shi.t happens. Shots don't fall. Being on the road. Foul trouble. Turnovers. Players don't show up mentally. The other team is simply a lot better (Michigan). You could go on and on.

Iowa is now 12-3, 2-2.

Over the next month, through Feb 8, here are our games.

Really need to beat Illinois and get a quad 1 win. Protect home court.

This idiot refuses to believe any sporting event would be fixed. Living under a rock all his life.
So just to be clear. My post was a jab at fans who complain about the officials in every single game, often spouting conspiratorial theories regarding the league and their designs on keeping Iowa down. It's always over the top.

With that said, recent events have shown the influence of gambling on players, even at the highest levels. It obviously happens. Last night? I watched the game and didn't see the overly tilted officiating that many other perhaps more passionate posters saw. Might have been a little home cooking. Officials are human and the crowd can be intimidating at times. Nothing new there however.

Gambling and the ease to bet on nearly every aspect of a game before and during, is without a doubt the primary reason fans have become more unhinged and seek to find any reason/conspiracy theory for why they didn't win a wager. Pretty soon American sports will resemble English soccer and earn the reputation of its hooligans. Might be a bit extreme, but maybe not.

FT disparity for our away games is extremely telling imo.

It's more of if the refs would call it both ways. What is considered a foul to them on one team should be called a foul on the other team. Therefore it looks kind of shady.

What's it like for home games?
Pretty even, think we have a few more. Nothing like the disparity on the road! So it begs the question, why do we shoot so many more ft’s at home compared to on the road?

I'm fairly certain it's always been that way. That's why it's called home court advantage.

There are generally 3 things at play here. A fan of one team generally believes that their team is getting treated unfairly by the refs. This goes for every fanbase. Some perhaps more than others, but it's universal. The laws of the universe tell us this is impossible. What's happening is that fans' perception of every play is shaded by their allegiance to a given team. In simple terms, they can't see straight

Refs aren't perfect. They make mistakes just like everyone else. If you think they're bad nd need to be better watch a women's game. I've developed a new appreciation for refs of men's basketball after watching more women's basketball.

Finally, the home court adds a level of intimidation that affects some referees (and players) more than others. Another aspect of humans that factors into the reffing of games with loud and enthusiastic fanbases. That's part of the homework advantage.

I attend all the women's home games and I'm well aware they are horrible but the men are just as bad, it's a Big 10 problem.

Here's something I found.

I should also add that fouls are impacted greatly by how teams play on the road vs ar home. Good offense and defense make for a better foul profile. Iowa's offense in the first half last night was atrocious. The defense wasn't great either giving up layups and creating very few turnovers.

No idea where it stands overall, but I don't think it makes sense to compare Free Throw discrepancies when Iowa plays Morningside or Sister's of the Poor. What does it look like when you play legit DI competition? (Big Ten, Big 12, SEC, etc.)

We boatraced Maryland at Carver. They shot 38 free throws, we had 12. At Hilton, Iowa State 23, Iowa 5. At Carver, Iowa 26, UCLA 12. At the barn Minnesota 28, Iowa 13. Neutral site, Iowa 24, Ole Miss 20. At Mich. State, Iowa 17, Mich. State 25.

So in those 6 games Iowa = 97
Opposition = 146

Style of play makes a difference too. Iowa doesn't have a Center, or a rim protector. That likely leads to more fouls too. Not suggesting conspiracy against Iowa, but those numbers are a bit wonky IMO, and some are crazy.

You get upset every time someone calls out your usual antics of acting holier than thou after a game. I openly mocked that tonight and it's clearly upset you. Because only egotistical losers do that; it comes off as painfully insecure, dimwitted, and pathetic. You don't come off as smarter, or as a more level headed fan. You just look like someone desperate for attention.
Sorry, it doesn't upset me at all. Just pointing out what a dumbass you are for posting multiple posts about your supposed censor. And frankly your posts are EXACTLY what "someone desperate for attention" would look like. There basically just "look at me" " look at me". Once again, do you own a mirror?

Retard is desperate for attention again. 🤣 🤣 🤣 Luckily, no one cares what a non-Iowa fan thinks on this board. Need to get Tom to ban these non-Iowa fans like he did with that Nebby troll.
So with your continued posts on this NON subject, WHO exactly is "desperate for attention"? I never mentioned the earlier post again, then you spend the whole game adding it to EVERY post. Again, mirror?

And frankly you wouldn't know an Iowa fan if they came up and kicked you in the ***. Careful. For the record, I'll be 67 in March, I graduated from high school in the Quad Cities in 77, (thus the number ) and have been a life long Hawkeye like my Dad was before me. He loved following the Hawks and Jim Jensen who went to his alma mater. My father in law played high school basketball at Muscatine high school with Iowa All American Murry Weir. He was the first Iowa basketball player named a first team AA back in the mid 40's.....

I think they have a decent chance to win all of those home games. They haven’t shown that they can win a road game however, so maybe they can pick off 1 or 2 there to go 5-2? If not it might start looking like a tough slog to make the dance.

Clearly it did. I openly mocked the game you play and you bit the bait as well as I hoped you would. Your ego posting will continue to he mocked as it should be. Your desperate attempts to look holier and more level headed than other fans remain one of the more pathetic, insecure, and egotistical farces on this board. No one is impressed when you do it, nor do you ever add anything of value to the conversation when you do it. And now you're throwing a tantrum because you got played.

Thanks for taking the bait, it made it all worth it, f*cking dipshit lmao

Oh look, more egoposting. Mirror? Mirror? Mirror?

No one cares about your worthless and uninteresting family history. At least you confirmed you're the sad, lonely, old ******** we all knew you were. A pathetic freak like you has no right to question my Iowa Fandom. But like a normal person, I have no interest in publicly posting my family history to total strangers which reeks of being desperate for attention.

Go grab that mirror you're so obsessed with, at least when you're looking into it you'll have someone to talk to.

Man it's not going to be easy. The biggest saving grace in this is that we're right behind the Big 12 as the best conference. We will have plenty of chances for big wins almost every night out. We honestly can't afford to lose more than 1 game at home in my opinion because I'm with you and I don't see a lot of road wins, and then we also have Michigan at home who looks to be an absolute juggernaut. 10-9, 9-10 even I think gets us into the tournament. Last night was certainly one of our best chances for a road win but even Minny is 9-0 at home. Maybe we can get Wisconsin or Penn St on the road. Both of them would be nice. I do think we will be tough to beat at home.

You really are a child. For some reason you think that your posting insults at other posters shows your superiority, while it only makes clear that your insecure and use these forums to make yourself feel better about yourself. Your nonsensical posting that "you can always tell a non Iowa fan" was the reason for my post, (and as usual just shows that you have NO idea what your posting about). I couldn't give a rats *** if its of interest to you or not. I have no need to converse with people who can't carry on a conversation without insulting other posters simply to try to further their narrative. Bye now.....

Unfortunately, it appears there were some miscalculations in this roster build.

I warned people of the possibility of this, when it appeared most of last season's team, as well as what would have been the incoming class, were run off by the staff. But of course, fans insisted on fanning.

Ben will learn and get it figured out. This was his first roster build at this level.

Ultimately, talent will come down to money. Build the best rosters for the money going forward. And fortunately, we can count on Ben maxing out the potential of his rosters
I think he went after the ones who would help this team (Dix, sandfort, and cooper). Dix would be perfect compliment imo to Stirtz. Do you think there's anyone else from previous team that would help this current team?

They are going to need a big time hero, or two, from the portal to replace Stritz next year.
I think he's going to go after a scoring PG of the stirtz mold albeit probably less talened and continue to build otherwise through recruiting/developing. He doesn't seem like a guy that will use portal more than he has too. Next year I anticipate more scorers just through development of Cooper, folgueiras, Sage, and Thompson.

Let me break it down to where it all started. This all started because some loser called out other users for being emotional during a game in a live game thread. He was called out like the douche he was, and those who also pull the same petty garbage came to his defense. I decided to mockingly play by your rules this time around, and it upset you.

But it looks like I’ll need to break this down to its most basic premise so that even a geriatric can understand.

What is a live game thread? What is its purpose? A live game thread is a thread dedicated to live reactions from sports fans for a specific game on that specific day. It has multiple purposes, such as keeping everyone’s thoughts on the game in a single place as to not clog the board and to allow fans to have live, raw reactions to what is going on. Humans are, by nature, emotional and irrational creatures. Sports only enhance that nature. By having this thread, it allows fellow fans to have a place to share their thoughts about the current game and vent the positive and negative emotions that come with reacting live. Is it right or wrong to emotionally react to your favorite sports team? Ultimately, that’s up to the individual to decide. Will a fan inevitably say something irrational? Sure, but that’s a part of the experience.

Now the question is, what good comes from commenting or critiquing those raw, emotional posts after the game has concluded? What does it add to the conversation? What does anyone reading the post get out of it? For any person that has a shred of honesty; absolutely nothing.

You don’t look cool, you don’t sound smart, you don’t come off as a more rational person. Instead, it comes off as egotistical, petty, pedantic, attention seeking, and desperate for validation. In short, it makes one look like a pathetic douche.

For example:

User A replies in the thread as the game is happening: “Wow, we look awful. We’re going to lose by 30 if this keeps up.”

3 hours later after the game has concluded, User B replies to User A’s post with: “Wow…lol. Looks like you were wrong. Pretty sad you’d think this when we won the game. Guess you’re not much of a fan…”

What does this do for the conversation? What does this do for User B? Sure, User B is feeling pretty good about themselves. But anyone else reading this conversation sees it as nothing more than a petty jab at another fan. There is nothing to take away from this exchange, nothing to discuss further. It’s just User B on an ego trip doing their best impression of Captain Hindsight from South Park.

This is why people point and laugh at those who do it, and rightfully so. Be a man and post live with the rest of us, or ignore all the emotionally charged posts and share your thoughts after the game and leave it at that. But that requires a certain level of emotional maturity which those who play that game don’t usually have to begin with. If you don’t or can’t understand the purpose of a live game thread and accept what comes with it, then you probably need to get off the board entirely, but your ego won't allow it. I would say it's time to grow up, but when you're pushing 70, it's likely a little too late for that.

Your absolutely right. Its way better to get on EVERY game thread and post how "here we go again" this is another loss were staring at literally 2 minutes into a football or basketball game, and how this or that player, or coach shouldn't be on a scholarship, or be employed, and THATS productive? And your only real response to all of this is how others "need to grow up"?

My apologies to all those not involved in the school yard tiff hijacking the forum. I'll be happy to let this "gentleman" carry on this conversation with himself, since obviously his is the only correct opinion.

2 Dumb is going on my ignorant list.

Even after meticulously spelling it out for you, you miss the point entirely. Amazing. But I guess when your entire schtick is broken down as blatantly stupid, there isn't much you can say.

Ok 2 dumb. You definitely have some mental issues. Go back to the asylum and get some help. And get your meds refilled.
