I'm actually not super concerned with the roster as is. I would like a few more positions to be bolstered but the world isn't ending anywhere.

I really like Godfrey and hope he gets more chances. With Entringer and Lutmer still there, that's a good core.

I think WRs are okay... RVZ is clearly our best. Howard is playable. Buie we still haven't seen and we have a good freshman.

DL is my biggest concern.

He’s the exact QB that Lester wants to run his offense. Strong arm , extremely accurate and can make every NFL throw.
No way in this universe. Lester has the QBs he wants, and they've been learning the offense, which is NOT plug n play. Hell, even a veteran like Gronowski was still learning the offense the day before the bowl game. Recruit the QBs you want and coach 'em up. I think Hecklinski will be a terrific QB and a potential 3-year starter. THAT's how you build the Lester-Shanahan offense.

Mostly agree, except that I think Howard is a star waiting to explode. No receiver can be impressive if he never gets the ball. That, IMHO, is the only thing Howard needs . . . the ball. Iowa could use at least one WR with top-shelf speed, otherwise RVZ and Howard are two excellent players. And the freshman coming in could make an immediate impact.

Absolutely have to get a starter quality DT. We got extremely lucky we didn’t have any injuries at the position this year since we only really played 3 DTs and lose 2 of them.

They need another wide receiver to complement RVZ as well. And my preference is it’s not another bargain buster because that hasn’t been working.

Myslinski will be a super senior replacing Jones at C, Lauck will hopefully be Iowa's next 1st round lineman at LT, Kade Pieper at RG is cemented. I think Dotzler moves over to the RT spot, and the LG is Leighton Jones. Apparently Lucas Algeyer (hope I spelled that right, probably not) is another one to keep you eyes on, add Will Nolan, and Macaslin. I feel fairly confident about the Oline.
Cannon Leonard is another one who was mentioned during bowl prep.... I think Iowa is to the point where we just re-load at the OL for at least the next several years. Agreed, confidence is high here!

I need to read Chad Leistikow's recent article on next year's depth chart. Chad has seen a lot since the end of the regular season(hope Tom does not mind the plug).... Those that say bowl games do not matter, are missing the point. It is another spring practice, and good timing with the new portal window!

Portal Must Haves - a solid DB and a couple on the DL. A good WR would not hurt...That noted - RVZ, DJ, Ostrenga, Howard, Thomas Meyer(another bowl prep mention), are a good number of targets to have. KJ Parker & his speed could be interesting... A couple of punters & kickers, too. But Kirk always seems to find them, and the reputation for Special Teams will remain after LeVar goes.

Manske, sure but not worth a bag
Robinson, yes
Hansen, not much if any upgrade, $ better spent elsewhere
Sowell, had the dropsies his whole career, pass
Eskildsen, I’d kick the tires
Townsend, pass
Bacon, pass overrated imo
Williams. ABSOLUTELY. He is worth whatever he gets
Neal same as you. Love to have him but I’d rather have Perich
Manske was a four star and wanted by a few teams. I know we not taking any QB’s but if we were, he would be worth an offer

If the coaches dont have 3 starter type DTackles on the squad right now they need to get at least 2 in the portal. If you cant stop the run you are sunk. Just ask Bama who got ran over by Indy. Indy got their yards against the hawks running the ball but that was a poor tackling day by Iowa all around iirc

Same with ORegon, lots of yards and lots of missed Iowa tackles, was that a rain game??

But really, if you give up 4-5 yards per carry straight up the center you are open for bad game and season

Not to mention were bringing in 4 outstanding OL in this years class. I wouldn't be surprised to see Parliment who's already 325lbs in the 2 deeps next season.
Parliament would have been in the 2 deeps this season……. only half kidding. Attended a couple Brandon Valley games and he is a gd plow on run plays, probably needs more coaching on pass protection. And he set Sd state powerlifting record (squaring 650ish) last year, already 320 lbs will probably add another 10-20. 4th and 2, send the RB behind HP - 1st down.

Why not go after guys that played big boy football? There are literally thousands in the portal and we are trying to pick up people from the likes of ELON?

Some were hits i.e. Mark but the others were misses.
Like always, your foot is stuck up yourself...
Seems like this Coach named Cignetti brought a few starters from the lowly Sun Belt conference and not all were from James Madison... They seem to play some damn good "big boy football". RUBE!

Good god.

Iowa needs to stop trying to get these small-school transfers.
They probably know a little more about talent evaluation than you do. Barnes said when asked about the portal on signing day that Iowa's evaluation of portal prospects is always value driven. They are not going after the highest costing prospects.

With 2,000 names in the portal I'm sure we'll get some good value additions. Hawthorne is a good example this year. George would have contributed this year also if he hadn't gotten hurt.

Is George eligible for another year? It’s why I am not a fan of “1 & dones”. 1 injury & ita a
Waste

He's only looking at teams that wear KC red uniforms.
Prima Donna boy not going where he will be part of a rebuilding, **** show. He needs the limelight.

I was like that when this first started however it’s just a case by case basis for me anymore. Not as caught up where kid came from. Just cause a guy was 3rd string at Michigan doesn’t mean he will be better than the guy who produced at MAC school. Look at Kaleb brown he was at OSU. Comes to Iowa and ends up at UAB and didn’t do much. Or Jeff Bowie. No offense to kid but reason he ended up at S. Dakota and no where higher after leaving Iowa. you didn't see other schools like Purdue or NW or other P4 offer him just cause he played at Iowa a Big 10 school. Flip side look at Hawthorne. Kid starting as a soph from sdsu.

There is a reason these kids are leaving big schools. Buried on depth chart and won’t ever see the field. Multiple reasons, injuries, development or player, or sometimes these recruiting services were wrong on the 4* at 18 out of HS who wasn’t a 4* at 21 in college. Coaches aren’t just going to throw offers out cause where kid played previously, going evaluate film, fit, and if player they have a reasonable shot at.
