I figure we might as well get a thread started now.

Wish list? Predictions?
Whoever it is they need to use the principles that Lavar put in place. Hawk punt and kick cover teams hardly ever have anyone get out of their lane and they take great angles to the ball carrier as well as shedding blocks. The Kick receiving teams like-wise.

For many years they've also used numerous starters on kick coverages, showing how important they believed they were. Well see if that continues.

I suggest they bring in someone who does special teams only (no off campus recuiting), move Budmayr to QB coach, and then bring in Jay Norvell to coach receivers.

With the hard cap limit of 10 assistant coach now lifted, they can now bring in a dedicated special teams coach who just coaches, but doesn't recruit off-campus.

JFC what is it with Iowa fans only wanting former players and coaches under the kirk Ferentz coaching tree? Look at all the top teams in college football the last ten years and this year’s playoff teams. How many of those teams only hire former players to coach and only promote from within? Not every coaching position needs to be replaced with someone that only has Ferentz/Frye ties. Look at Lester, hired from outside. There are 100’s of teams out there with great coaches just wanting chances to promote and chances are one of them is a better coach than a former player or a former Ferentz/Frye assistant.

I don't know how good of a coach he is but there's Marvin McNutt.

Every Iowa player should be thrilled to know if their career fizzles out early in the NFL that the Hawkeye fanbase will gladly give their support for them to fill a coaching position over many more qualified and experienced coaches from any other institution. This type of thinking that former players should be the first choice to fill every assistant spot is just echo chamber thinking and fear of the unknown. Every coaching position should be a national search unless said assistants have proven they’re really good at coaching and developing the positions they coached before. Promoting from within or only wanting to hire former players cause they were good probably has more proof of failure than success. I hope Beth isn’t as afraid of the unknown as the people in this message board are.

Brother... I'm far from the grammar police but you have to spell Fry correctly.

Your point stands though.

I want someone who has an expertise in special teams. No more of this bull crap of hiring friends like Bud in positions he's not qualified for. It is inexcusable that he's coaching WRs.

Lmao only reasons I can think of why I butchered Fry’s name was I had a few beers throughout the night before posting and I know of a family with the same name and they spell it with an e at the end.
I’m glad someone on this board sees this. I also feel like sometimes hiring from within or your buddy is often times the lazy decision.

If you are an Iowa fan you know how to spell Hayden's last name.

I’m born and raised in Iowa. Not a fan of either team cause the state I had no choice I was born in shouldn’t dictate what team I’m a fan of. Should be the team you enjoy watching the most and what the history and traditions and style/philosophy the team has made their DNA in. Iowa and ISU didn’t have it for me but I don’t want them to lose unless they’re playing the team I play for. I like to check out a lot of teams boards in the BIG and see how every team has their fanatics that see that I’m not the only one who overreacts in the moment sometimes. I’ve noticed Iowa fans when it comes to after Kirk and present day every candidate that is brought up on this board are the hires that make you feel the most comfortable and safe in the moment. Not many suggesting a fresh start. I think I’m more confident in Beth at making the right hire for the next head coach if it was outside the program than most Hawk fans are. Not every program will turn to Nebby, you have a AD that seems way more competent than the last one so have faith. You can start fresh and still keep your identity if the coach is great. You’ll just build and improve on it.
