"Nobody knows what the rules are" also "We will always err on the side of caution"

This program is so cooked. We are out here scared to get players based on restrictions Mitch and co. are making up. Insane. Just fire every single person that had any part of Pope being here, enabling Mitch to make the JMI deal, and start this thing over.
Exactly when every school and player would go to court tomorrow to get it fixed. The court will always rule for the player making money. It’s ridiculous and stupid how we operate.

Oweh and Chandler are great starter level players, they just can’t carry a roster unfortunately which is ridiculous for the cash we spent. Maybe JQ changes some of that but without an elite PG and backup we are fraudulent anyway.
UK hasn't had a high level PG since Quickley. Butler was close.

If you were saying it before the season, I have no words for you. My issue is with the people who said this was an elite roster and now say there is no talent. It makes no sense. Outside of maybe Kam, we had enough film to know what every portal addition was when we brought them in. I contend we are a talented team, but we will never see the fruits of it, but I won’t argue with those who felt it wasn’t talented in the summer. To me, that’s being consistent and I respect it. Even though I disagree.
They may have talent, but it’s talent whose skills totally don’t mesh together. Kam appears to be wildly overrated, Mo D and others appear to be best suited as quality bench players. Lowe is injured but honestly he doesn’t appear to be that great to me, but that could be a product of injury.

I will say that I slurped the Boston/ Clarke team pre-season -- had visions of Monk/ Fox. So I am not going to pretend like I am some talent evaluation genius. Just never saw what the media saw in this team.
Those two appeared to be legit players but for whatever reason they just didn’t have it. A lot of it has to do with how strong the HS class is that year and some guys can’t handle the step up in competition especially when they are on the same athletic tier or higher.

If you said it in the off-season I’ll respect your view on the matter. A lot of others did not do that.
Agree Village, I took a hiatus the past several months and had to re-register as I forgot my username and password so I don’t know who questioned our talent level before the season.

However, most of the so-called experts predicted Top 10 and maybe a Final Four run. In fact, the disappointment displayed by BBN, me included, is partially due to the high expectations in the preseason. There is talent on this roster, but talent itself does not guarantee success. Are there internal dissension, jealousy, the lack of competitive fire are some issues that may be the reason for this dreary start. We are all guessing and the answers lie within the locker room.

Regardless, the upcoming Indiana and St John’s games are going to indicate, IMO, where this team will go the rest of the season. Winning cures all ills. CMP and staff can only do so much to right the ship. Hopefully, the players have bonded together and we will see effort and desire. If so, this is a talented enough team when/if JQ, Jaland, and Mo return. Without them, I don’t think we have another capable point guard or enough rebounding even if the problems have been resolved.

Agreed.
- It may be the case that the talent doesn’t mesh due to the shooting woes
- It may be the case that injuries have affected the rhythm and chemistry
- It may the case that these guys genuinely don’t like each other
- It may be the case that Pope hasn’t cracked the code and figured out the best way to take advantages of the strengths of this roster
- It may be the case that the slow start has gotten to guys’ heads and morale has suffered significantly
- It may the case that the minutes/rotations have caused continuity issues and rhythm issues
- It may be the case that disciplinary issues have been left unresolved
-It may be other factors not outlined here

It’s probably a combination of all those things. Pope is the coach and he ultimately gets the blame regardless, but I’ll tell you in my multiple film reviews, I’ve came away very dissatisfied with how the coaching in-game was performed. The man didn’t have a brain injury in the off-season, so I expect some of that to get figured out. Some of it may not be fixable — that remains to be seen.

If there aren't rules for the most part, why would you EVER handicap yourself in such a competitive field? Absolutely mind-boggling.
They are making excuses to deflect from something that some of us already know, because we can still perform basic math, while the rest play pretend, and hang on to that absurd $22 million fairytale!

No one, not the Crafts, not the banks, not the distilleries, not the horse people, NO ONE… NO ONE gave freak’n wet behind the ears, no tournament wins, 25 win season once, Mark Pope, a war chest of $22 million dollars, to build a roster of scrubs, 6th men, and local 4* in state dudes!

That’s, The Ohio State Football, National Championship contender type money!… Football money, folks!

Give Calipari, Self, Scheyer, or literally anyone besides Pope that kind of money for MCBB, and they are building a team, that not only would go undefeated, I’m not sure anyone would get within 10 at the final buzzer!

Just asinine ridiculous, that story was floated by the UK athletics department!

Mark Popes a nice guy that’s in a tough spot. He’s learning on the job and then he’s been put in another tough spot with this JMI situation. No matter what any of us think of Mitch it would be an absolutely terrible idea for Pope to go against his boss. That’s a no win situation if I’ve ever seen one.

Ok, it’s not JMI. Then what is the problem? Why is it suddenly hard for UK to land its top targets?

Things are going so great with jmi that we have several recruits already signed for’26…….just like all the other top programs across the country…..🤔.
When do the right people start to ask questions to the right people about this??? Is going to be too late to fix?

You mean the roster that the entire site almost universally glazed over? The same one that was preseason top 10 in every human poll? The same one that was preseason top 4 in KenPom? Yes, this roster was supposed to be good. We have injuries and chemistry issues. There’s no reason to keep retconning as though we trotted out a bad team. Sometimes good rosters don’t win. In my lifetime, I’ve watched the top high school class win 9 games in a season. I’ve watched an absolutely loaded top 3 preseason team with a ridiculous two-headed monster of Bogans and Prince underperform in 2002. I watched the 2023 team return the NPOY and an All-SEC point guard from a 2 seed national title contender become a disappointment and a 6 seed. Long before me, we had Pat Riley, Louie Dampier and Tharacz return from a National runner-up to go 13-13. Sometimes good talent doesn’t win.
These people don’t know **** and probably wonder who the players you spoke of and did they play at UK.That was the good days and had classes with Thad and Riley.

Pope wasn’t ready for this job so a lot of his issues are because of that, in my opinion. Yeah he played here but playing here and coaching here are two different things. I hope he gets it figured out but it’s hard to make it at a blue blood program when you’re still learning on the job.

He is still living in his Utopian false bubble of reality that simply doesn't exist and hasn't for at least 20 years.

Before this season started, MOST posters here and everywhere thought...

-UK has more money than any place, including UCLA, for example
-Our NIL is better than anyone's because we are rabid and have horses and the Crafts
-Our coach shoulda been COY last season. He was robbed!
-We have great players and depth. Top 5 or better team!

10 games into this season, most posters on here now know, because their experts...

-We're broke, NIL is rigged against us
-...it's Mitch's fault
-I meant Pope. He can't coach and isn't on our level. But Mitch has always sucked and he's doing this on purpose
_Pope can't recruit, even with $22 million
-JMI should be sued. It's a conspiracy, you know!
-We don't have talent
-A bunch of subs!
-...and some still believe we spent $22 million, too...but that's starting to change. Finally!

I said all that(there's plenty more where that came from) to say, Cal was right about a lot of ya'll!

Really wish there was more footage of those late 60s teams. I rewatch the 1966 championship game time to time because I enjoy watching how good everyone on that team can pass and shoot. Truly positionless basketball long before the phrase was coined. Same thing for the 1970 team —- I have three games of theirs that I watch time to time. Really wish I could have been around back then.

Awful appearance by Pope. I don’t have time to say much now but this was such a disappointing listen. He just keeps harping on with the toxic positivity. He never acknowledges the severity of our current situation until he’s on the verge of tears in the post game. GD. Where is the light at the end of the tunnel

What the hell is a real fan?

fan

Well...an object to blow on (something) by means of a fan (hand-held, mechanical or electrical) or otherwise.

It's debatable that I might have been wrong about some people. ;) Are you a fan or not? You might be employable.

He appears to be completely out of touch with what is happening to the program. So passive. Talks like a Kappa sorority sister.
He needs an intervention. NOW.

Honestly, what do you expect him to say?
Doubt you're going to see a lot of second year coaches trashing their AD or publicly crapping on a huge new deal the school signed.

He seems like a totally different coach this year. Last year we seemed to always make halftime adjustments and play well second half most games. This year we don’t seem to be changing anything. Not even running our offense. No rebounding, no defense. Nothing.

I still have no idea if he can coach defense at all. I’ll have to see it executed to trust there.

As far as offense, we have to make a few shots and get some confidence at some point. It’s hard to stay in the offense if the assignment from the other team is go under on literally everything. It cuts off the backdoors, cuts and curls. I feel bad for the guys coz we have no choice but demand they run the offense, but there’s no offense to be had shooting 15% from three. This Indiana game is an opportunity, but also threatens to add more water to an already sinking ship. My fingers are tightly crossed. 🤞

Yeah coaching here ages you especially when things are rough . Similar aging as being president . Each year equals a dog year lol .
People say Kentucky fans have unrealistic expectations, but even if we don’t get some well known elite coach, you still have to have the right personality and mindset to succeed here.

If it were up to some idiotic fans and opposing fans we would just shut down the whole program because clearly no one but goofy jacka*ses want to coach here, even though they’re miserable by the second season.

You have be an a*shole to make it here. A mean son of a b*tch. An arrogant, egotistical maniac. And Pope is none of those things.

Remember when Mitch said we won't break the rules, in the stein presser? Now Pope is saying "We will always err on the side of caution". Meanwhile, other schools are totally bypassing the "rules". Because it's the wild west out here. UT even sued the NCAA and won. It reeks of Barnhart.

There are no rules. Its like jaywalking. Its a rule only on paper that no one enforces.

Pope seems completely against bringing in a GM no matter what he said and seems to be telling everyone what he thinks they want to hear. I wonder if it's him or Mitch saying that.

I have gone from Pope's announcement as the new coach, saying to myself "Wait, what's going on here?!"

To euphoria after the press conference and last years team and the potential of this year's team (except I knew the Oweh hype was way over the top).

To now again saying to myself, "Wait, what's going on here?!"
