True.
Nebraska went 4-5 with wins over NW, MSU, Maryland and UCLA.

Luckily we play 3 of those schools next year (NW, MSU, Maryland) plus Nebraska.

Seems the schedule is in our favor then?
Let me tell you how it will sound-
Those three team are all vastly improved and MSU has an ace head coach, so those will be tough games.

I'm sounding like a broken record, but some of us are tired of the excuse du jour for why we can't overperform in a game or two. As Rosanna Rosanna Danna used to say "It's always something."
Nah, Al is the broken record around here. 😉

Let's see if Tate and Zinn can move the needle. RU has been stuck too long with ineffective leadership at the B.O.G., President and AD levels. Right now, it seems all three are moving in the right direction.

Northwestern, Wisconsin and Nebraska are not going to be easy games. They should be viewed as toss up games.

It's all for football. They made an all out blitz to get Schiano as much money possible for retaining and the portal as that's right around the corner. When they're done with this, they'll start up one for basketball. So, what they're doing is business donations are going to NIL, those will pass clearinghouse. A donation from you or I (although I do own a business) goes to the revenue share pot from the school as we can't pay players. (I can but I ain't no Daddy Warbucks) You have to be a legit business.

Remember also, this additional money is outside of the money Schiano raised. Compared to the last guy who raised next to $0 this is a wind fall. The girl done good in such a short timeframe.
Other sports are getting some Kelli raised NIL. Not a lot but some.

I don’t think we have good information about the reported NIL number. It doesn’t seem to be clear if that is for all sports or not. If it’s for all sports, football will get maybe $6 M. That is a probable big increase from the past, but it’s not a large number relative to the top of the conf from some other info that I’ve seen. Also, I’m not sure we have a good understanding of exactly what other schools actually have in NIL.

hopefully Kelli understands that football is all that matters. Kelli should have some review every penny spent but it should all go to fooball

We know the future conference schedules.
It looks like 3 of the teams you listed.
All at home.

Side note: Will be interesting how people view the PSU game.
There is a lot of mocking of their empty recruiting class and coach search. How it's going to effect the program for years.
Does that mean the game should be an expected win?
Especially with our increased resources.

2026 Schedule:
Indiana
Michigan
Michigan State
USC
Nebraska
@ Wisconsin
@ Penn State
@ Maryland
@ Northwestern
With 10M of NIL money and this schedule we should win 5 BIG games. Unless we cannot get the right players via the portal then we have the wrong coach.

Ru had enough talent that a good coach…one who gets the most of his players and develops them well…should have won 7-9 games…even at out current nil levels…the B1g simply wasn’t that strong outside osu, Oregon…in terms of our schedule. The big three sports at Rutgers… that would be football, men’s basketball and yes, women’s basketball are all led by really bad coaches… I’d love to say that baseball is a big sport, but it isn’t at Rutgers and probably won’t be.

Better coaching wins Minnesota and Iowa easily. Illinois and Washington a toss up

Hopefully but some of that is also going to be dependent on schedule.

Say we wind up with a schedule that includes OSU, Oregon, USC, Michigan and Indiana. These are all the big spenders in the conference and it's not out of the realm of possibility given some of our past schedules.

Do you expect that they'll win the other seven games to go 7-5 with middle of the road money?

We also don't know if raising this money in increasing amounts just to stay in the "middle" is sustainable either with our fan base and sponsors. That's an even bigger wild card.
Head Coaches are measured by their Wins and Losses. Walking into new situations Coaches are given a reasonable amount of time to show improvement. It’s expected they will win games they are not supposed to along the way. In Six B1G seasons has beaten exactly 2 teams with winning Conference records. Overall as a HC Schiano is 4-31 against Top 25 ranked teams. Reasonable time is running out for Greg.

Just think we beat Indiana 2 years ago 31-14 and now they are BIG champs. We went sideways or down while they got coached to the Championship.

Baseball is the next major sport you can move up to the top of the Big Ten with a decent NIL Budget.
Rutgers Baseball has a very good coach that has put together a competitive team in the Big Ten (a few years ago, the team won 45 games) with virtually no money. Since NIL arrived, Coach Owens recruited some really good freshman that exceeded expectations - only to lose them to better programs with NIL budgets.

Coach Owens knows how to recruit and train young players.
Give him a reasonable NIL Budget and watch Rutgers join the top 25 in the first year.

Baseball stars that reach the major leagues can earn very large long-term contracts. A natural source of future NIL money.
Rutgers Athletics teams should instill the concept of remembering their alma mater when they earn the big bucks and fund their sport.

Not sure what baseball had for this year but I'm hearing the transfers are a solid bunch.

I love this thread, remember this is our president and AD's first year and they are performing way above expectations in regards to football and NIL, it will only get better. They are from LSU, mediocre is not in their vocabulary. I am excited about our future. Thanks Sct1111.

Also agree that I am impressed by Keli and Tate so far. The best part of their fund raising is that I not once seen them post on this board trying to make us fans feel like we are not doing enough…

This years offense + 2023 defense would be a top 15 team. This type of NIL could get us there.
This
Easy wins with State Penn, Iowa, Minnesota with that combination.
And probably Washington and maybe Illinois

We thought that last year, when the schedule didn't include Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, or Oregon, and they wound up losing 5 games in conference anyway. This year, 5 conference wins were there for the taking if the defense had been average rather than abysmal.

This $9 million haul seems almost too good to be true.

Jersey Mike's has the naming rights deal for the former Rutgers Athletic Center. Pays $1.2 million this year.

SHI has the naming rights deal for the former Rutgers Stadium. Pays $1.9 million this year.

Then suddenly, with the RAC and stadium spoken for, Rutgers raises $9 million in a few months to do deals with athletes?

Did Keli harpoon a whale?

No, but she did what Hobbs wouldn't do this whole time and engage NJ businesses. She talked to some of it when she joined the TKR pod with Mike & Richie a little while back.

Agreed Greg wins maybe 2 of those Big Ten games.

Last off season it was all about Greg and how he did a tremendous job raising money and bringing in players with the money. All about how are D was going to be vastly improved and the team overall because of “Greg” and that money.

How did that work out?

Cigs is proof is the most important thing

coaching, player evaluation for the scheme you run trump NIL by a wide margin. Cigs not having anyone with a 4 or 5 star rating is incredible.
Yeah, he totally develop that QB by recurring him out of high school. They even have an academy kid transfer and playing for them. He sure knows how to find those 3 star and below kids on other college teams.

Of course not. Did anyone here donate more money? I’m guessing no and everyone assume a magic fairy donated money for NIL. Typical of RU fans.
Stop thinking Keli is spending time shaking down the London Broil posse. She's been meeting with businesses around the state and has been having success in getting them to commit monies to RU football. Next up on her agenda is basketball.

I also know for a fact that the other sports have also been meeting with donors. Baseball was had multiple people shown around this fall by the coaches and they attended a formal event recently as well.

So far, she's been the right hire, someone RU has not had in the AD position previously.
