Said this exact thing when they expanded last year. The bye and the automatic seed of conference champs/g5 last year ruined the whole reason for expansion. When ASU and Boise get bumped to higher seeds and byes the committee lost all credibility. Once they bypassed 8 the only logical thing was 16.They should expand the playoff to 16 teams. Seed 1-16 . No byes. 16 vs 1, 15 vs 2 etc. 5 highest conf champs and 11 at large. 1st rd games on campus. Then the 8 winners meet in the New Years Bowls as they do now, etc. If GO5 conferences will only agree if their highest ranked is in playoff, require that team to be ranked in the top 25 and give them the 16 seed.
Well the NCAA should fine Notre Dame kike they did Kansas and Iowa State.
Also every 5-7 program that days it won't go bowling deserves punishment.
Naotre Dame might be a sore loser and not deserve what they're mad about not getting, but
what makes me mad is a 3 loss program that didn't win its conference championship being picked over a 5 loss ACC Champ that didn't deserve a spot but was more deserving ( in my opinion) then a 3 loss Bama squad .
Also feel Miami deserved its spot more than Notre Dame , but the imitation Irish deserved in the playoffs more than the 3 loss low Tide did..
Since loses don't matter for some and are the reason other are left out, let the playoffs be changed to 9 conferences have auto bids for their conference champions ( no matter what their W-L record) and add 7 at large bids .
edit, it was pointed out to me that the NCAA didn't fine Kansas and Iowa State, it was their Conference that fined them.
Here's what Iowa State said to Kansas after they received notice they would be fined
Rankings aren’t actually suppose to mean anything until the last one because the information is incomplete until all the games are played. Not sure we’ll see the weekly shows go away but there’s more clamoring for it. ESPN did pay for it.
It was never supposed to be the top 12 teams. It was always the top nine or ten and the AQs which are pity bids for the smaller leagues. It's been discussed to death, but the notion of having two G5 teams in the CFP while Notre Dame (and arguable Texas) are out of the CFP seems off in some way.
ND in B10 would be huge…South Bend fits geographically…hockey already in B10…sports like lacrosse would be icing on the cake. Would love to see ND v Hopkins in lax.
ND’s leverage is at an all-time low so the B10 and SEC may be able to get them to fall in line. ND just isn’t “special” in this new era of playoffs, conference realignment, and NIL. Not to mention when IU is ranked #1 you can bet that doesn’t help South Bend who forever was the pride of the state of Indiana when it came to football. And if ND insists on a deal to preserve their football television deal? I think neither the B10 nor SEC would put up with that favoritism
And if they do make a deal, would that mean a team would be dropped?
Rutgers would have 7 wins with that schedule09/06 - vs Wisconsin (in Green Bay, WI)
- 09/12 - Rice
- 09/19 - Michigan State
- 09/26 - at Purdue
- 10/03 - at North Carolina
- 10/31 - vs Navy (in Foxborough, MA)
- 11/07 - Miami (FL)
- 11/21 - Boston College
- TBA - SMU
- TBA - Stanford
- TBA - at Syracuse
- TBA - vs USC
ND schedule next year. They will easily make playoff.
at a minimumRutgers would have 7 wins with that schedule
Then don't say it was player choice as they didnt want to give ESPN extra money. lolDon't think the are crying, they are negotiating a new TV contract ptobsbly be worth about 60 -75 mil a year, Their prigram valuation is 1.85 nil. They are letting the NCAA know that ND doesn't need them , they need ND. Think about this there is what 32 teams in the NFL. I can see a future where the top 30-35 football set up a league like the NFL, play their games on Saturday, maybe a Sunday night and Wednesday night game. They would break off from the NCAA some might think I am crazy. But let me ask you this, if in 1995 someone would have said in 30 years college players will be making millions to play college football you would have said they were crazy.
Then don't say it was player choice as they didnt want to give ESPN extra money. lol
Real shame.
Yep whole story is fiction.Rudy is a pump and dump boiler room con man. And he was offsides.
ND's AD is a massive crybaby.
When they move to a 16 team playoff, that poor #17 is going to hate lifeI remember when the playoffs were 4 teams, and all of the expansion proponents said "no one will argue over the 12 v 13 teams, it's not the same"
I don’t know if the thought was there wouldn’t be argument over wherever the cut line was but more that “it’s not the same” because the argument over 9-14 is less important than near 3-6. The farther down you go, the less consequential it is.I remember when the playoffs were 4 teams, and all of the expansion proponents said "no one will argue over the 12 v 13 teams, it's not the same"
ND had a grand total of ONE game where they were Top 20 in TV ratings: Their game vs Miami Opening Night. They're not as important as they think they are.ND’s leverage is at an all-time low so the B10 and SEC may be able to get them to fall in line. ND just isn’t “special” in this new era of playoffs, conference realignment, and NIL. Not to mention when IU is ranked #1 you can bet that doesn’t help South Bend who forever was the pride of the state of Indiana when it came to football.
That is incorrect. A&M - ND was the third highest rated game of Week 3.ND had a grand total of ONE game where they were Top 20 in TV ratings: Their game vs Miami Opening Night. They're not as important as they think they are.
That is incorrect. A&M - ND was the third highest rated game of Week 3.
