And I will maintain that if Iowa had stuck with Sully and used the money they spent on Gronowski to shore up other spots, Iowa would be headed to the CFP too. Sully knew Lester's system, is a better runner--quicker and faster than MG--and would have been a better passer. There was no good reason to go with MG, especially when he was going to miss the spring, over a talented, experienced veteran like Sully.

I liked Sullivan and his ability to make plays. he was an above avg passer. Grono had an overall nice completion percentage for the year of 63%, he was off on some and his receivers dropped some, but he made some really good throws.
You have a good argument that Sully would have known the offense better when we played ISU and a good chance Iowa wins that game, the Indy game and the Oregon game if everything stays pretty much the same. We would have had Stratton and Brown as the 2 main backups to start the season. Sully could have had a big year with the hawks
He's 19 for 29, 222 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT...... for the season. Considering he doesn't get playing time for Tulane (or Northwestern or Iowa previously), consider me skeptical on him taking us to the CFP.
I’d say at very, very best, you could make the argument that Sullivan and Gronowski would be a wash, and that would be a stretch. I don’t think he’s a better runner than Gronowski and he didn’t tear it up with his passing either

Who cares what he did this year. The point I answered was we probably would have got a similar product and result from Sullivan as Grono this year and used money for other players.

Agreed 100%. MG definitely had a higher QB IQ though…Sully for sure had a couple of ‘WTF’ moments.
Then there needs to be a separate G5 playoff. All BCS teams need a path to the championship.
The rule is top 5 conference champions get an auto bid. They are among those 5.
i agree that sull would have been an asset this year and we likely win a couple more games if he was available as backup but gron is the better qb imo

He was knocked out of the UCLA game last year and then missed the Maryland and Nebraska games. In the bowl game versus Missouri he took a couple of hellacious shots due to not sliding or knowing when a play was dead and to get rid of the ball.

10 point win that exposed A&M you mean? Texas lost to a crappy Florida team and needed overtime to beat both Kentucky and MsSt before getting rolled by 25 points by Georgia last month.
And what does this have to do with Tulane again? If a team got left out because of Tulane, it certainly wasn't Texas who got passed in the rankings by ND and BYU for that last spot.
He was fearless, too fearless. He would have probably ended up injured again similar to last year.
Yeah, his 222 passing yards, along with his 76 rushing yards, bear that out.
