From what I have seen you can be just as good at run stopping with a 3-4 or 3-3-5. It really just depends. This year we had 5 DL on the line of scrimmage and still couldn't stop the run.I don't think we face enough passing teams to justify a 3-4. The Big 10 is a run-heavy conference and 4 down lineman works better.
Matt is going to use every scapegoat in the book the next 2 years, until he runs of of them and the finger is finally pointed at him.I think Butler is kind of a scapegoat, I'm getting some vibes of Riley firing Banker. Did great with the secondary but he inherited a really small d-line, not sure anyone could have done much better. This is more on Rhule for letting his roster management get that bad and also on the S&C/Nutrition people for players that didn't look/play the part. Linebacker coaches, DL coaches, OL coaches need to be reevaluated.
Yea the coach from the chiefs has been a huge disappointment. Haven't heard from him in a while. Having Chris Jones makes a difference. From what I have seen you can be just as good at run stopping with a 3-4 or 3-3-5. It really just depends. The x's and o's guys I listen to have said the problem this year were DL not being gap sound. And there being confusion some of our players were playing outside in on run fits vs some guys playing inside out on run fits. Seems to be a DL/LB/DB coaching issue.
You're not wrong. Some of that was also as simple as our DL letting themselves get turnedFrom what I have seen you can be just as good at run stopping with a 3-4 or 3-3-5. It really just depends. This year we had 5 DL on the line of scrimmage and still couldn't stop the run.

If TJ is reasonably healthy, he needs to play in the bowl game to recapture a lot of luster from the last 2 games, but more importantly to show others that he's healthy enough to take a look at.I guess my gut feeling is that TJ will hit the road. Hopefully he plays the bowl game either way. I have nothing to base this off of, I just think Rhule is going to sell his soul (again) to keep DR and TJ will be looking for a starting gig.
Yeah, the scheme doesn't matter so much when you've got guys like RVP and Lenhardt literally getting blocked 10+ yards down field. I've never seen so many examples of DLmen turning their backs and trying to put the brakes on.From what I have seen you can be just as good at run stopping with a 3-4 or 3-3-5. Wisconsin ran a 3 man front and always had one of the best defenses in the Big Ten.I don't think we face enough passing teams to justify a 3-4. The Big 10 is a run-heavy conference and 4 down lineman works better.
DR looking for the job to being given to him would be typical.Maybe, but can't see him getting a starting job somewhere worth it, unless he wants to go smaller.
Right now my guy says DR is looking for a starting spot somewhere else, I think that was his plan all along. Maybe I'm wrong.
If DR does leave, find some experience in the portal. Better spend some money in the trenches either way
Correct. RVP i hope it really is just the DL coach i had a lot of hope he would replace Ty and Nash.Yeah, the scheme doesn't matter so much when you've got guys like RVP and Lenhardt literally getting blocked 10+ yards down field. I think Auburn ran a 3-3-5 this year and was Top 5 in rushing defense. Don't quote me on that I didn't look it up lol.Wisconsin ran a 3 man front and always had one of the best defenses in the Big Ten.
I don't disagree with you, but it's pretty much SOP for P4 football for starters to leverage their situation into either more wins or more money or both. There's no reason for DR to NOT look around and he's not unique because he's doing it. I mean, I guess there could be one reason to not look around, and that would be to avoid becoming the next Nico Iamaleava.DR looking for the job to being given to him would be typical.
He was an assistant defensive line coach like Raoila with the bears. So they were basically graduate assistanceYea the coach from the chiefs has been a huge disappointment. Haven't heard from him in a while. Having Chris Jones makes a difference.
Satt always sucked statistically over a full season, Dana hadn't been good for a really long time, Whipple was good because of one QB. Some coaches are just bad...like Satt, but most are just dependent on having top of league talent. It is isn't rocket science. We don't have any NFL players, maybe a few late rounders but no really good football players. That is hard to do with so much money, to field a team that is devoid of professional type of football players.I don't.
Mark Whipple
Marcus Satterfield
Glenn Thomas
Dana Holgorsen
Arguably 3 of those coaches had great success at one point, but all look terrible at Nebraska. What's the common factor? All of them being dealt the hand of Donovan Raiola's OL coaching genius.
He is actually a really good player who never got a shot. Hearing in practice he lights our defense up better than Railoa and TJI'm probably the last guy in on this thought, but I have a feeling we'll be starting Gramstad at QB for the bowl.
Thatās a legitimate question as the only reason we have Holgersen is because they share the same agent.Sure any legit d coordinators would want to work under Rhule?
I don't know specifics of TJL's injury but i would be very surprised to learn he has not healed in time to tame meaningful practice before the bowl game and subsequently start in the bowl. However, to put TJL in the same game plan that one would have for DR is a mistake and doesnt use TJL's talents to their full potential and will be a poor barometer to judge TJL.If TJ is reasonably healthy, he needs to play in the bowl game to recapture a lot of luster from the last 2 games, but more importantly to show others that he's healthy enough to take a look at.
His offenses in his last two years (2021 & 2022) were both top 20, I wouldn't call that a really long time.Dana hadn't been good for a really long time
I think it's very doubtful that he's better than Raiola or Lateef. But it would just be our luck if he shows that that he is better than them in the last game of his last season. He is actually a really good player who never got a shot. Hearing in practice he lights our defense up better than Railoa and TJ
Somebody said hamstring but I heard he came out the tent wearing a knee braceI think there's a 51% chance of you being right. DR shelved by an injury, and what if TJ has a lingering type hamstring issue?
Can you say HH?
Hopefully just got the knee banged up and nothing structual.Somebody said hamstring but I heard he came out the tent wearing a knee brace
lolā¦Parker isnāt leaving Iowa for Nebraska.Hate to suggest it but go throw alot of cash to get Phil Parker from Iowa.
I donāt see either of the Stoops boys ever coaching at Nebraska.A serious program would throw a bag at Stoops, Durkin, or Wilcox. But I fully expect Rhule to hire Phil Snow.
Fire everyone!!!!I wouldn't mind seeing Holgorsen go. That would have sounded ridiculous last year, but he has been a disappointment this year.
We shouldnāt need Phil snow. If we do, he doesnāt get paid more than 200 grand.I like Phil Snow legendary DC. But may be time to get rid of him too.
DR gets a pay cut, not a raiseI don't disagree with you, but it's pretty much SOP for P4 football for starters to leverage their situation into either more wins or more money or both. There's no reason for DR to NOT look around and he's not unique because he's doing it. I mean, I guess there could be one reason to not look around, and that would be to avoid becoming the next Nico Iamaleava.
Yeah, not too impressed with that guy. His unit has not performed very well.He was an assistant defensive line coach like Raoila with the bears. So they were basically graduate assistance
Pick a lane, and be happy!!So we're basically admitting we just pissed a year away. Sunk cost and all, so this is a good thing, but we have to stop pissing away seasons with ****** coordinators.
Who's starting at RB?I'm probably the last guy in on this thought, but I have a feeling we'll be starting Gramstad at QB for the bowl.
Need a splash hire here
So we're basically admitting we just pissed a year away. Sunk cost and all, so this is a good thing, but we have to stop pissing away seasons with ****** coordinators.
The thing is, no big-time DC is going to come in if his staff is entirely made up of holdovers.
Are you sure after an extensive search that yields no qualified candidates, we (Rhule) are immensely pleased to announce Mr. Phil Snow has graciously agreed to accept our offer to be the next Defensive Coordinator at the University of Nebraska.Should have fired Matt's crony Snow. He ran White off and gummed up Butler's plan.
They were so happy to get Singleton back for his 10th-11th year. You would think the coaches would have come to the realization he can't play long ago.Butler's plan?
Notice how the DB's were terrible when Butler was the position coach, then magically got better when he wasn't, but the defense as a whole got worse?
Matt is going to use every scapegoat in the book the next 2 years, until he runs of of them and the finger is finally pointed at him.
