It hasn't always been this wide, especially places like dline, and wide receiver. There was a stretch when we were bringing in some legit studs there, now we're hoping for a legacy/rare high level in state guy, or to hit on a developmental player or two which just isn't enough.
Correct.

You guys have mental issues. Who do you think Iowa is going to hire? Saban? Meyer? Lol. These are the golden years. ENJOY THEM!
How about a Cignetti? Indiana, overnight, became a national title contender with a head coach NO ONE, except the IU AD, had ever heard of. Methinks there might be one or two other guys hiding out at places like James Madison who might know one or two things about coaching winning football in the 21st century.

Psst, I'll let you in on something, it already has. This year feels so much like 1997 to me. Except at least 1997 had a good core of talented players left from a few good recruiting classes. Then the wheels fell off. Its very similar to where we are now imo. The talent gap between Iowa and the top 10-15 programs is huge and only it's only going to keep growing while KF stays.

THank You. Thank you! Right there is the VERY crux of ALL these conversations, and shows clearly how far people sway for their own narrative, SO, there is a huge talent gap between Iowa and the top 10-15 teams in the NCAA. Is that correct? And Kirk obviously can't coach a lick, judging by all many posters. So we've just played 3 of those teams, 2 of them in the top 8 basically, one number 2 and took both of them scoring in the last seconds to escape with a win while being held to way less than 1/2 their usual scoring. How is that possible that our coach is so inept, and we have no talent comparatively, and yet 20-15 vs Indiana, and 19-17 vs Oregon? Explain please, I mean really, so it was what the fans?

Uses Cignetti as an example. Literally the only time something like this has happened.

To ALL the people like you - Just because Fickell has sucked at Wisconsin, does not mean a new hire at Iowa would result in the same.

Holy hell stop being so afraid of change. The lack of entertainment provided by Iowa cannot get much worse than what we've been seeing for several years running..
Bro then if it is working great at so many schools why have so many been fired and more to come. Fing dumb!

Seth Wallace is the Asst Head Coach but shouldn’t be the answer. He’s never even coordinated a unit.

This guy’s WSU team lost by 3 AT Ole Miss and 2 AT Virginia. Has sent guys to the pros from SDSU and is young:

Jimmy Rogers WSU (currently)

They can negotiate a very nice buyout. We have Beth’s back on this. Just do it! I for one tired and embarrassed for his continued crying episodes, not to mention he looks like a cow chewing his cud (gum).
Oh, Good Lord. YOU are "embarrassed" because of a 70 yr old man being emotional, and the way he chews gum? Really? And THAT embarrasses you. YOU need to get a life.......

The Athletic did an article about colleges firing coaches to get to the next level. There are a lot more Nebraskas than Indianas. You all think that we’re getting the next Cignetti or Saban - IU got lucky plain and simple. The only thing we have to offer a coach is patience- it’s sure not fertile recruiting or NIL dollars. Eventually Kirk will leave and I’m willing to bet many of you will be even more upset about the results than you are now.

You are what your record is. We lost those games bc at the end of the day they were better, and had better players to make plays when needed. I don't take solace in close losses with KF anymore. I've suffered through too many of them to act like a close loss is anything but a loss. Win bc we're better, not bc we had enough breaks go our way.

Did you feel the same when Iowa moved on from Hayden? He was YOUNGER than Kirk is now. Moving on from HF when we did for a young unproven head coach lead us to a really good run with more highs than lows. Kirk isn't getting any younger and we're very likely going to take a step back next year. Bottom line it's happening eventually, better a year or two early vs too late.

We may take a step back next year, who knows. But I'm willing to bet the people that post that he needs to be fired or retire after every game that we don't play like Ohio State at their best will be disappointed in things after he retires. Iowa has been punching above their weight for a lot of years.

Please show where I said we won those games or that they were "moral victories"? Never said that. My point was if the talent gap is REALLY that big, and our coaches are not at that level why didn't we get our A---- handed to us like Indiana put up a 50+ point margin on a pretty good Illinois team. Same thing for Oregon. They've wood shedded a bunch of "average teams. The game comes down to coaching and players, period. If we are really so far behind why aren't we getting waxed? Its fine to be upset that we haven't won those matchups, just don't post utter nonsense about the talent gap, and coaching, because it can't be both or we'd be blown out, and thats not happening since Lester got here.

So when is the right time? Whenever he says so? Bc the end is coming eventually and he's 70. He's been a great coach and representative of the university. But these guys rarely if ever go out when the "time is right". If there's a succession plan in place it's time for the fans to be informed.

That's our style. That's been KFs recipe for years. Drag teams down into a slow sluggish game and hope we can make a play or two in the end to win. That's happening less and less in recent years, largely bc we have fewer and fewer playmakers. Playmakers win close games and in our losses we had too few on the field and our opponents had more... especially in positions that really show up in crunch time, QB, WR, DL, RB.

He's never leaving, ever!!

Personally I am glad he is returning. If Helinski (sp) comes through and we get OL and LB settled through guys in the system or portal it could be another good year for the Hawks. I know there are a lot of what ifs about this season just finished (regular) but KF is more than right for this program.
