That schedule wasn't appreciably more difficult than this year's will be. NET rankings in parenthesis.

St. Peter's (188)
FDU (324)
Albany (250)
Wagner (290)
USC (N) (88) - L
Iowa (N) (62) - L
Northeastern (244)
@ Baylor (15) - L
Rutgers (103) - L
Monmouth (193)
Missouri (N) (158)

We didn't "get screwed when we played a challenging OOC a few years ago" (sic). We were passed over because we didn't beat anyone good during our OOC. That's a fate this year's team potentially faces although it would be a surprise if we're on the bubble in mid-March.
I still say we got screwed. NETed

funny enough Rider SOS is crazy. Texas now Houston. Coach is a masochist
They have always had a very ambitious nonconference schedule, back to the Jason Thompson days, at least. And they used to be very competitive for a while. I remember them beating No. 18 Miss. State in Starkville a year or two after Thompson graduated, and they beat a pretty good USC team, too. They still play these games, but they are just lambs to the slaughter now. I shouldn't even cal lit ambitious; they know they are going to get curb-stomped. But they need the money.

what’s so bad about it?
A big ten team at home.
A big 12 team on the road.
A decent tournament. A top 25 team in the first game. As long as you don’t get Chaminade. You’ll likely get 4-5 high majors
With Revenue Sharing, you need to use your OOC schedule to assist in that regard. Most high-major schools are taking advantage, even using exhibitions to raise revenue.

Under Felt/Sha, our schedules have not been good and as usual we are late to the party on looking at our schedule from a financial POV. Our only good revenue-generating game will be Rutgers. No NYC neutral site games, no marquee opponent Home Game, no MTEs that pay teams to play.

1) 3 cupcakes @ Walsh - Likely money losers as we have to pay Buy game costs with little in ticket sales

2) 3 cupcakes @ Pru - Slight money makers after buy costs because of season-ticket holders but no one's been showing up at these games

3) 3 good games @ Maui - Huge money loser. Most teams are backing out of these types of MTEs as it costs over half a million in expenses with no revenue. We need the games against good opponents but we need to find games that make money not cost money

4) Rutgers Game - Our only good Revenue game since its Home this year and always is a packed house

5) @ Kansas St - Loses us money, this better be a Home and Home that gets us K-State at The Rock next year

I think it has the potential to be overall OK, but correct me if I’m wrong, part of that will be dictated by whether we can beat NC State and who else we see in Maui. It’s a good thing though the schedule worked out where we got NC State first.
This. While Maui isn’t what it used to be and is likely dying on the vine in this new era, our games there + at Kansas State will end up making it fairly average overall.

But if we’re talking about building a profile, this schedule is a problem unless we notch wins in those games. Right now we have no idea how reliable this team is or isn’t. You need to hammer cupcakes for the NET and notch quality wins too; that’s what kept us out in 2023-24 despite the 13-7 BE mark (still BS but left us debatable after the upsets) Plus, we’re not good enough to make money on the non-con right now.

This makes no sense, a home and home makes us lose money this year and make it back next year. If it's not a home and home, we get the buy game money this year.

If its a straight away game with no buy fee it loses us money. Its very uncommon for a high-major team to receive a buy fee.

If its home and home, its a money loser this year and money generator next season. But that would be a good scenario and the first Home and Home (other than the Rutgers series) signed in the Sha/Felt era.

Seton Hall / Kansas State is a home and home
Good news for next year. We'll have at least 1 marquee OOC Home game that earns revenue for the school, challenges the team and will be attractive for fans to attend.

Speaking of KState, I saw our old friend Abdi Bashir had a breakout game last night with 27 points on 7 made threes. He's 24 for 48 from 3 on the season and the team is hitting 43% from 3. Going to be a tough challenge for our 283rd ranked 3-point defense.

KState spent a ton on players and they got some guys who can shoot it. Their biggest signing was All-American PJ Hagerty from Memphis who is said to have received around $2.5M.

Having lived on both sides of State Line Road in Kansas and Missouri, I can assure you that K State will spare no expense to keep up with KU.

They reportedly had one of the biggest payrolls last year too. Obviously didn’t pan out at all because $$$ doesn’t guarantee success.
