i celebrate a big win last night for the Hawkeyes👏👏. Were we in season ending form, of course not. We are a team with new players trying to figure out their game and how each player fits in. Mistakes were made and our offense lacked fluidity. Not unusual for teams early in the season. I’m a big believer that we learn through our mistakes. Example, didn’t many of us believe Lucy was overrate and the team was terrible until mid season last year? They found a way to win vs a good team. Let’s enjoy watching the progress the team and each individual will likely make. I believe in the coaches and the players to figure things out and grow 👊

PS—I am pretty concerned about the health of Chit Chat. Obviously she is a huge part of the direction the team wants to go.

ever hear of a pump fake
Apparently not. Iowa went the entire game without ONCE using a pump fake on this team that blocks shots. How did the game plan not include using the pump fake as the number one item? I kept telling my wife they've got to pump fake, and when they do they'll foul all of Baylor's bigs outta the game. I said it for 40 minutes, and I'm still waiting. This is inexplicable to me. How can Hannah keep getting her shot blocked and not figure it out on her own? Same for Heiden and everybody else. PUMP FAKE! OMG.

Rodriguez seems out of control....
Love her game, but you're right. She was outta control the entire time she was on the floor. I couldn't believe Jan kept her in at the end. Emely must have had at least FIVE terrible passes that Baylor stole. And Emely's offense was TOO aggressive. That late length of the floor drive could have cost the game. Iowa needed to run clock, not try a ballet move and then throw the ball at the basket.

Like I said, I love her game, but she has to slow things down and use her head. Since Iowa survived, maybe next time she'll be able to use what she learned. I hope . . .

You know who else should be passed by Houston? Emily Rodriguez. Good Lord girl, slow the F down and think about **** every now and again.

Damn good thing Baylor can't shoot worth a damn. W is a W at the end of the day.
By all accoints she has a great upside. Let her figure out out

Can’t believe the hate here for ERod. She had a bad game, it happens. She’s aggressive, which Iowa needs.
There's no hate, I hope. I love Emely's game, but OMG, she was totally outta control all night. She has great athleticism and she's aggressive, but she has to have some understanding of the game too. Glad Iowa survived her wild play. Couldn't believe Jan left her in at crunch time when she nearly blew the game all on her own with horrible passes, crazy drives, and no apparent concept of when to run clock instead of trying to score.

Rodriguez was probably really hyped up last night, back to Orlando where she played last year for UCF. Tomorrow she still will be, playing against Miami, the school from the city where she attended high school. There must be quite a few of her friends and relatives in attendance.

I like that Jan kept Emily on the floor. She made a lot of dumb mistakes, but she put enormous pressure on Baylors defense with insanely aggressive offensive play. We would never have won the game if Jan had pulled ER and elected to play it safe in the 4th quarter. Jan showed that she has confidence in her players, even when they screwup. It takes a hell of a coach not to meddle too much and simply let the players bring home the W. Well done Jan,

I get she’s a freshman. I get the competition is tougher. But what have you seen that shows you she’s going to be great?

Rodrigues is a damn spaz on the court, but her athleticism shows. It’s easy to watch her and say, “she’ll be great once she plays under control.” Same with Ava a year ago. She flashed great touch and ability around the rim. She just needed time to become consistent.

I just don’t see anything from Deal.
She's a 5 star who loves being a hawk. She's a winner, she'll figure it out, I'm gonna give her some grace.

Yeah. She lools like she has the ability to be an absolute star, but what I saw last night is going to be a huge problem on the floor and in the locker room if it continues. I'm sure the staff was talking to her about it last night.

Kylie is a grinder. Plays her *** off on defense and on a good night will hit a few shots. That’s who she is.

My thoughts on Emily R is she is a ball hog. Time after time she dribbles around and doesn't look for anyone else and finally makes a shot while not open. I don't think she knows what a pass even is.
Glad to see the board still complaining about the win last night. Well done twindman. Let’s get the pitchforks out for Stuelke soon. It’s almost 930.

I think maybe Emily's aggression in previous games worked because the opponents were not very good. However, in this game they were much better defensively and Emily couldn't have her way. Maybe (hopefully) she will learn from this and improve.

Exactly, every player made mistakes last night vs a top 10 team, yet as a team, they came back and won the game. Thats on the coaching staff doing their job!

We’ve spent years on this board complaining about not having enough athleticism. Emily fills all the boxes. Yes, she was trying to hard to make a play last night. But if Jan felt comfortable enough to leave her in that’s good enough for me. She’s the player we were missing last year.

6 minutes and 0 points for our Five-Star Freshman? 🤔
Who would you have her taking minutes from down the stretch? Definitely not Stremlow. McCabe had a rough shooting night but ended up making the play of the game. Emely? She's out of control, but the opposing defense needs to respect her at all times.

She was out of control, there's no debate about that. With that said, it's probably important to remember these are Women basketball players and they often appear to go as fast as they can and throw it up and pray, and that's essentially what she was doing. Didn't work for the most part.

I too was stunned she was still in the game late. Obviously she's a gamer, just needs to think a little better on the fly, and I suspect she will. If she doesn't she'll likely find herself watching the end of games from the bench.

All in all, it was a good win. Ava was probably the only real bright spot, and I was a little surprised Layla Hays didn't get some more time, she's been able to hang pretty well in the early going. This team has some guts, that's for sure. On to Miami....

The difference in the +/- with Ava in there vs with Layla was telling. Ava was +16. Layla -11. This was Ava's matchup

Ava was great, but she did what was expected of her. Iowa won the game largely because of Stremlow (MOP of the game). Stremlow was brilliant.

Azzi Fudd's first game against a top team (South Carolina), her freshman year, she scored 0 points. In the next game, she scored 15. I think it is best to give the freshmen a little time to figure it out. Deal is going to be great, probably tomorrow.

You must not have watched the game. “The little Wright girl” was injured and didn’t play almost the entire 2nd half. Stremlow came in and played fantastic.
No, I didn’t watch the whole game. Majority of 1st half only.

Just too sloppy to sit through.

Some of the players don't seem to be aware that the bounce pass exists as well. I'm sure these things will improve over the course of the season.

I think the hustle she was providing was helping to chew up clock and that's why Jan kept her in. She made a lot of costly mistakes but since she was helping drain time off the clock Baylor just didn't have enough of it left to take full advantage of her mistakes. Obviously that's not a strategy I want to see again but it worked last night so we'll take the win and move on.

Or as Coach Brown said:
