Totally agree that it was an ugly win, but...it was a solid win against a well regarded team. A team that also played a ragged game tonight.
But there was lots to like too. Gritty, determined, heady play, particularly at the end, carried the day. I think Stremlow and McCade in particular showed out in the final minutes. Nice work ladies!!
Congrats Hawks!! Now then, get some extra shooting practice in tomorrow.

Good thing the Hawks have a pretty deep bench, so hopefully her absense won't be too sorely missed.

Emely Rodriguez sure draws a lot of fan interest. I agree, a lot of raw talent. I’m likely in the minority - more Journey Houston please.

I’ll let Jan decide who should play what and where. I think she’s pretty competent as she showed tonight. The matchup zone was masterful. Stremlow coming off the bench was incredibly poised. Kudos to her. While we didn’t shoot well the number 7 team in the country just had a little to do with that plus losing our pt guard. And we won! The rest of you guys can try to decide who you all seem to think suck but after tonight we’ll jump 6-7 spots. That’s a huge win against a very athletic team.
Unfortunately, she looks like she could be out weeks due to post concussion, hopefully not.
I would argue Stremlow is the heart and soul of this team.
Then don’t ***** when recruits don’t pick Iowa. This is the game today, not the game I grew up with, I wish that it was not this way. I have no answers

Through 3 pages we’ve conceded this game and multiple big ten games so far. Surprisingly nobody has mentioned how UConn will destroy us, but that may be coming in future pages.

Baylor vaulted into the top 10 by beating a then Top 10 Duke who has since lost to 5 player/1 starter West Virginia and South Florida

Ava played well besides a few rushed shots
Stremlow stepped up big when we needed someone. Her best game tonight.
Hannah battled.
Everyone played hard!
Not so good:
Emily did not play well at all. Out of control, poor shots, bad passing and a couple defensive lapses. She has a lot of talent, seemed too hyped up tonight. Needs to learn to play within the offense and save the one on one for when we need that. She did hit a nice drive late.
McCabe has to shoot better. Her steal late was big though.
We got almost nothing offensively from everyone else, have to have better shooting to continue to win vs good teams. Continuing to drive the ball and get blocked early was frustrating. Too much standing trying to feed the post at times. Need to keep ball and player movement going.
Chits injury not good, she was struggling with shooting as well prior to going out.
I'm honestly shocked they pulled it out given the opponent, the injuries and our youth. Playing hard, playing tough defense and rebounding well vs a bigger team made the difference. I'm sure things will click for Addie eventually, sometimes it takes time. She seems to be a bit overwhelmed and pressing. She should probably try and focus on defense and rebounding and just let the offense happen as it goes and build. Stremlow was similar last year offensively but still contributed with hustle plays.

Rodriguez was a like A bull in the china shop but her athleticism is off the charts.
Ava was a beast, especially in the 2nd half.
Being a Penguins fan and watching Sid Crosby struggle so much with a concussion in 2011, really hoping Wright is doing ok. That was scary seeing her trying to walk off the court.

The game needs to slow down a bit. Rodriguez was obviously pressing. She will be fine.
Deal same thing...Even 5 star recruits needs the game to slow down. She's gonna be great with MW in a couple years.

Good defensive team that had 11 blocks. Scott could light it up from outside. Hawks played them tough. They didn't have an answer for Heiden inside.
Athletic, long and have a great point guard. All the makings of a top 10 team. Iowa's match-up zone defense really turned the tide. I think Baylor will stay in the top 10-15 all year. They had 11 blocks, five on Hannah early.
Not so fast my friend. Feuerbach did not play well last night , foul trouble, but McCabe played very well. Played within herself and what a hige steal late to put the Hawks up five.

……and it happens every year: easily excitable fans watch November basketball games unrealistically expecting to see late February play and performance. I myself want to know - 5 games in, why hasn’t Deal made a logo3? Bro, can Layla Hayes even dunk?
Count me in the corner of a huge Emily Rod fan, yes she struggled a bit last night but she is also what we have been asking for on this team for years and that's someone who can attack off the dribble and take it at the defender and she is that player. She is not a set shooter like quite a few she is going to be aggressive and i'm all in for that. Remember how many times Jan used the word patience in the preseason about how young they were and it taking time and I can see her especially referring to players like Emily R and Addie Deal, two players one in Deal that many thought should start just because she was a 5 star recruit and the pressure on her before she even stepped on the court, she is going to be great but it takes time to adjust to the speed of the game. As for Emily not near the hype but we all saw glimpses of her athleticism and just taking it at the opponents, i love that because that is confidence in what she does and that's better than not taking the shot when your open as I feel like she would be the one who actually wants the ball in her hands with time running out. The biggest thing for her is to just slow the game down in her head without taking away from her desire to be aggressive offensively and again I go back to Jans cautious word of patients. I can honestly see both Deal and Rod starting before this season is over not out of necessity but because they have adjusted their games and grown even more confidence in what they do and that will be great to witness. A win is a win no matter how bad or ugly the games is or was as I've never heard anyone say I would rather lose looking good than win ugly.
I mentioned her steal, but a Senior who's entire thing is to hit open 3s has to hit on more than 1. She did do much better on defense than she used to.
I don't know that anyone thinks Rodriguez is bad, just had a bad game. She's still my favorite player on this team. She will be fine.
McCabe did a Kylie move. Bait the inbounder to commit to a pass and then pick it. I laughed when I saw it. Knew where McCabe learned that trick!
