As I mentioned elsewhere, it’s not like either team is playing a new set of opponents from the past. It’s that the quality of hoops in this area has gone way downhill. Is Rider even going to be open in a few years, on the heels of what St Francis did a few years ago? The decline is not just a trend. It’s a full-fledged thing.364 (next to last) = Rutgers

Coming off last year, you might be right. In a different year, not so sure. There is so much value to playing really good teams in the OOC. The losses don’t hurt you and the experience and preparation no doubt helps. And of course for our fan base: if we were 3-2 with losses to good high majors, I wouldn’t view this team any differently right now. And I might even view us more positively.Still so early. Will improve over the next couple of weeks. I d rather be 5-0 with this schedule than having a 2-3 record with one or two devastating losses.
However, as Hall87 points out, the OOC in its entirety is solid. We just happened to start out with the five weakest opponents. Starting Monday we should have enough good opponents to get us ready for the BE. Actually pretty interested to see how it turns out.Coming off last year, you might be right. NIL effect. Their best players get poached. As I mentioned elsewhere, it’s not like either team is playing a new set of opponents from the past. I think it has the potential to be overall OK, but correct me if I’m wrong, part of that will be dictated by whether we can beat NC State and who else we see in Maui. It’s a good thing though the schedule worked out where we got NC State first. However, as Hall87 points out, the OOC in its entirety is solid. Who knows how the seasons will shake out for the other teams…. Anyone’s guess, really.I think it has the potential to be overall OK, but correct me if I’m wrong, part of that will be dictated by whether we can beat NC State and who else we see in Maui. True. Last year if you had Kansas St and Indiana early we probably thought those would be monster OOC games and they were some of the NIL rich teams that floundered.Who knows how the seasons will shake out for the other teams…. Anyone’s guess, really.
That schedule wasn't appreciably more difficult than this year's will be. NET rankings in parenthesis.Well we got screwed when we played a challenging OOC a few years ago so might as well build some confidence & have some fun. Losing to Monmouth, Hofstra & Fordham last year was the pits.

funny enough Rider SOS is crazy. Texas now Houston. Coach is a masochistAs I mentioned elsewhere, it’s not like either team is playing a new set of opponents from the past. He’s also about to take a mandatory pay cut.funny enough Rider SOS is crazy. Texas now Houston. Coach is a masochist
Sounds like you have 2 issues..I have little to no issues with the schedule this year. It was smart and strategic to schedule softly in the beginning. I didn’t like 3 games at Walsh and would’ve preferred one more decent home game (Temple, VCU, St Joes)
yea true. virginia, texas, houston, hell even rutgers. He’s also about to take a mandatory pay cut.
They need to play those games for $$$$
I still remember how I almost bought the farm about a dozen times driving home from a SHU-Rider game at the Meadowlands in a surprise ice storm.yea true. virginia, texas, houston, hell even rutgers.
never understood why SHU never played rider since i've followed the team.
The 3 Walsh games are more due to the devils/concerts than shu. The would’ve preferred another decent home game, but I’m fine with the schedule. I actually think it’s better than most people doSounds like you have 2 issues..
FWIW, upcoming (possible) opponents, KenPom Ranking and SOS to date:Our non-conference schedule as a whole is solid -- certainly not spectacular -- but the opening half is very soft. At least four, and maybe five, of the last six games will be more challenging.
St. Peter's 1-3
Wagner 0-4
Fairfield 3-2
Monmouth 1-3
New Haven 2-4
NC State 4-0
USC 3-0 or Boise State 4-1
Arizona State 3-1/Texas 4-1/Washington State 2-3/Chaminade
Central Connecticut 2-2
Kansas State 4-0
Rutgers 4-0
They are also mostly against teams that you didn’t seek out, but play on a regular basis. They just happen to be very down.Six games against resume poison, three of which are being played in a glorified high school gym. We are making no money on these games. If we had any NCAA ambition (I realize that we do not) these games provided zero assistance in that department, and can only hurt us.
A couple of tune up games is fine. Six totally uncompetitive games in a single offseason sucks. No one wants to watch that.
Resume poison!? Glad to see we have another member of the “I am worried about our March madness resume” club. Overall, the OOC is adequate and largely adheres to the scheduling philosophy we've had in place for the last decade. The schedule is an embarrassment - and a huge mistake in the world of pay for play - but I understand why they did it. Last year was so jarringly bad that they needed some wins to feel better again.
Hopefully it’s just a one off thing.
I’ve seen this said several times now…. When have St. Peter’s, Wagner or NJIT been “up” that it wasn’t considered an afterthought of a game? They are also mostly against teams that you didn’t seek out, but play on a regular basis. They just happen to be very down.
And honestly, these games have been interesting to watch, as I try to figure out who all these new guys are.
As in ranked in the 300s.I’ve seen this said several times now…. When have St. Peter’s, Wagner or NJIT been “up” that it wasn’t considered an afterthought of a game?
