They seem to like him and well, I am not sure if the AD even knows they have a FB team.

If they were smart they would do all they can to get Franklin...

I guess they could go after Franklin, but I wonder what sort of job he wants next. A bigger name school or a low key place like Maryland.

Coach Locks has a very young team. If he gets fired, someone else will win 9+ games with his guys in two years. Nah, I take that back. In todays CFB, all his guys just get poached.

Bruce Arians is spearheading the coaching search

Lots of $$$ being funneled into that program right now

a good coach can have them in the playoff next season given the ACC landscape
I think it is taking people time to realize that good jobs are different now. The "this job is great because of the recruiting area" is still a thing but not as big of a deal.

The freedom of transfer rules has also changed it all and (like me and others have said) has also shown us how ******* miserable a lot of kids were being stuck at a school (just like regular students, not everyone loves the school they are at, that is okay)

Now, any job that will help with a strong NIL is a good job.

The smarter play for Maryland would be to keep Locksley at the top and figure out a way to improve the staff from below. Locksley is a good leader and great recruiter, but not a good head coach.

Excellent point. And I think the unspoken factor of how good a job is-- how easy is it to win there-- is more important than ever. I think Texas Tech with great NIL and playing in the easier Big 12 is a better job than half of SEC and Big 10 jobs out there. Who gives two ***** if Purdue has the prestige of the Big 10 and more TV revenue? So does the rest of your league.

If true it seems like he settled.
“Settled “ ? The man won 13 games last year was 3 points away from playing for a national championship in January and then fired in October. Why in the fk would he go to another school like that . Go to somewhere where they gave good leadership good recruitment area and it sounds like some decent NIL being invested. Plus it’s an easier conference to navigate through. Just because as others of said a Big 10 or SEC school doesn’t make it a “ Better “ job .

Terps keeping Locksley per AD this morning. Will have to wait until after season concludes to see how he tweaks his staff as I would guess the AD has placed conditions with retaining him.

Ya anytime the AD makes the statement we are keeping our guy BUT we are going to do things to make it better. It always means he has conditions to keep his job .

That is what good leaders do, they have a conversation with their employee. After giving him years to run it his own way there should be discussion and action on what will be done to improve.

weak and chickens!t leaders don’t have discussions with employee, they b!tch about the employee to others but never offer guidance and ultimately fire them.

The uncomfortable thing about that then is an AD who may not know Diddly about coaching is forcing a change. Eichorst cough cough.

Yep . That is why these situations rarely work out. I personally think most of these coaches( Fickle. Locksley . Etc.. ) are being kept because of the Dozen job openings this year. Just not a good year to look for a new coach. These ADs are hoping they can fix some things and improve.

Great leaders would have seen the problems all along and offered guidance to address them way before it gets to such a point.

I'd say an AD is in the wrong business if he doesn't know diddly about coaching.

And yet there will be coaches like Braun and maybe Cignetti who won’t get new jobs this year.

Yes, farm good coordinators for other teams to hire as HC and hope you hit the jackpot each time you have to reload

Makes sense

Losers of 6 straight.
Who is Maryland going to hire to replace Locksley? Too many good openings for them to get a good quality coach this off season. (Not sure this is going to change. With all the money involved in college sports I think there are going to be fewer coaches with long term tenue at schools.)

My wife had one nephew (graduated) and now two nieces (Senior and Freshman) at Maryland. Finally, the youngest one who is the only one of the three who played sports in high school, basketball and crew, goes to Maryland sports. It was fun giving her a bad time about the Terps when the Huskers beat them in football earlier this season. If the two oldest are any example I don't think there is strong interest by the student body to attend games.

Coaches like Cignetti and even Braun will find jobs in every cycle regardless of the openings. There are to many big Openings ( LSU, Florida.maybe FSU later ) even if those teams take A Elko, kiffin Drink from Missouri . Those jobs become open and a Maryland has zero chance to find a Braun or Cignetti they will take one of the bigger jobs. .

Cignetti and Braun were both kind of considered reaches for struggling programs. NOBODY thought they would have the kind of almost immediate success they’ve had. Keep in mind what a successful season for NW looks like. IU is mind blowing.
