She did the presser about her committment with the schools AD and her high school coach. Coach said she looks great and has been meeting all the goals but they are holding her back just a bit. She didn't commit to her playing game one of her senior season (which was one of the questions), but she said she does think she will play more game s then she will miss. Probably start seeing some game action by late Nov early Dec, but they are not rushing her.
Some high school coaches actually do see the bigger picture. It’s about the kids and their lives. I want to win as much as anyone but I will put the girls before my hopes/dreams.

I think along the same lines as FireFighter. She is reportedly too athletic and dynamic to use as a post and boxed in by doubles. Especially with the excellent other post players on the roster. Will she post up in certain situation, sure. The Hawkeyes motion offense provides players the ability to make those decisions. I feel they will give her a ton of freedom and let her play. Don‘t over coach and restrict your star players. That was a strength of Bluder and I believe Jensen feels the same way.
At times, offensively, coaches just need to give a structure, teach how to react to dumb defense, and get out of the way.

Her HIGH SCHOOL film. Yeah, I watched a bunch. It’s high school.

And..See post #669. That guy actually follows women’s bball.
There is also AAU film and USA U16 and U17 in addition to her HS film. All of this film is with players her age and in many cases 1 to 2 years older. The clear majority of her half court offense was very highly refined posts moves with range to around 15 feet out. Only one clip that I saw displayed any three point shots. It was reported that she was just beginning to expand her range just prior to her injury. Although she most certainly will not be a post per se for Iowa, (#1 candidate to replace Stuelke in the starting rotation), it is worth mentioning that she has that aspect in her game and it would be foolish to waste that talent by not taking advantage of a mismatch she might have inside.

Very brief intro of myself: I become interested in specific college (and pro) teams by way of following players from SF Bay Area high school teams... I go in-person to typically about 200 games per season... In short, I am a hoops addict.

Because I am at so many boys games, I don't often get to see girls games until the playoffs, or on occasion online. But I do see some of 'em... and this one time...

Here's why I'm on this particular forum... I first saw McKenna in an eighth-grade local-area All-star game, and have kept up as much as I could since then, because she was totally off-the-chart ridiculous! Unlike the usual all-star 1-on-1 mentality, here was this 6-footer moving about the lane, setting screens (How often do you see THAT in an all-star game??), rebounding like a demon, making great passes to teammate, defending like CRAZY (How often do you see THAT in an all-star game??). One of the most amazing performances I've ever seen; McKenna dominated the game while demanding the ball almost never!

Her school, Archbishop Mitty, is over an hour's drive through Bay Area traffic from my house, so getting to her games wasn't easy and therefore I didn't do it often.

Of course, the biggest concern is getting full recovery from the injury... But I'd be surprised if she doesn't get back to form quickly. I have heard that her return target time for full-contact practice is late October, a week or two before her Mitty Monarchs go into tryouts and practices.

Speaking of Archbishop Mitty, I'm absolutely certain that D1 college scouts watch them VERY closely. They've made deep runs into the state playoffs every year for over two decades now, and have had bunches of young ladies get D1 schollies over that time.

So, I'll be paying much attention here as a new Hawkeyes fan!

East bay, Concord. And my first priority, Campolindo boys' hoop, is playing that day.

This reminds me... My scheduling take... BAN football, play boys' hoop starting in Sept., ending about Jan. 1-ish. THEN start the girls' season, ending in late March. :)

Cool 😎

I lived in Berkeley for many years and now my no-pic wife and I are in Marina Bay.
Not sure if we will be able to get to the game. We have a big holiday party that she is hosting in the evening in Santa Rosa. If the game is early we may go

Ban football? What if it is a persons best chance at getting a scholarship?

Another opportunity to see McKenna and a lot of the top HS teams in the western us...

On the first weekend in January (Fri-Sat) is the SI20 Showcase at both Carondelet and De La Salle in Concord, probably easier to get to than Berkeley for you peeps in the NorthBay. Lots of games in both schools' gyms (a few hundred feet apart, park at one and go into either or both). Mitty played on both days last year, and so did their JV and (I think) frosh teams.

Ontario Christian, featuring the top junior in the country, the amazing Kaleena "Special K" Smith, point guard extraordinaire, will play there, probably both days. Last year, they were the opponent when McKenna went down.

(SI20 being Sabrina Ionescu, who starred in local HS ball before going to Oregon and raising that program up... And now is one of the best players on the NY Liberty)

35-40 miles from San Bruno to Archbishop Mitty High. Depending on traffic maybe 45 minutes. San Bruno is near SFO.
Okay thanks. I guess I misread the article. The story written by Harold Abend the Assoc. editor of CaliHiSports who have followed her career since 8th grade, said she commuted about 100 miles a day.

A lot of us may or may not be looking forward to Daylight Savings Time, but we are looking forward to that date for a different reason. Go Hawks-get the season rolling.

On Sunday, November 2, clocks move back one hour at 2 a.m. This marks the end of daylight saving time, and you will gain an extra hour of sleep.

Extra sleep is nice but I wish they'd do away with this.
