Crazy play and baserunners are at the full disadvantage. Did they show when Umps signaled ball was in play vs being an out or did they not signal anything at all?
I would think that the only thing a baserunner could have done on that play would be go halfway to see if it is caught. When he goes up and brings it in- even as the ball pops out, it seems to the naked eye that he still just caught it- I don't know if it was possible for a runner or coach to see it hit the wall.
Anyway- really just want the Brewers to win. And so tired of the Big Dumper or whatever they love to just keep repeating, to just go home too.
Wonder who S.O. has bet on to win that series?
The left field umpire, whose call it was, clearly made the safe call. Problem is, the base runners never saw him, since they aren't conditioned to look for the left field umpire.
Teoscar Hernandez, who was on third, clearly didn't understand the rule. He broke for home as soon as the ball touched leather, which is correct. When he saw the ball pop into the air, he unnecessarily went back to tag up again, which cost him the play.
The runners on first and second obviously thought the ball was legally caught. They went halfway, and then returned to their bases. While on TV replay the ball clearly hit the wall, I am sure that in real time from 250 feet away it was far less clear. Even the CF admitted he didn't know the ball had hit the wall. He thought it just popped out of his glove and he caught it on the way down.
Could've been a triple play if three outs were needed.
