I've never seen someone fight with so much determination to defend points that are completely and utterly WRONG.
You guys are really something else.

How could my points be wrong, when I've made no points? I simply asked a question.

I guess I should have put it in poll form. But I merely asked people if they'd feel more comfortable with it 21-21 or 7-7 in the 2nd Q.

So infer whatever wrong points out of that that you wish. Everyone else seems to be.

Don't care. A tie is a tie no matter the score.

It's like Fran's basketball teams. Would you rather lose 100-95 or 60-57? Again, doesn't matter. It's the end result I care about most.
No ****.

The question was whether you'd feel more comfortable with it 21-21 or 7-7, in the 2nd Q.

It's still on the table if you wish to give an answer

Saying you'd prefer 7-7 because you'd rather have a defense that can shut the other team down is making "no points" and simply asking a question?

The offense pisssd off a lot more consumers, and people who never really had the best interest of the Hawks at heart in the first place, than it did fans.

No, the offense didn't hurt the team to near the level people made it out to. Those offenses were part of KF's winningest stretch at Iowa.

People wanted to say Iowa would have won more with a better offense. But they gave no answers to how that better offense was supposed to have been acheived. No solutions = no legitimate complaint. Or they offered solutions that potentially could have hurt the defense.

Also, the complaint is based on a hypothetical that can never be proven. Hypothetically, Iowa could have won more games with a better offense. But given that it's just a hypothetical, that we know can never be proven, the validity of the complaint can inherently only go so far. Not only that, but reasonable arguments against the hypothetical claim exist. In other words, maybe the team would have won significantly more with better offenses, maybe not. So why in the hell does it still have people's panties in a bunch years later?

It should again be noted that there wasn't really room to have won significantly more. If no significant difference, why the significant level of complaint?

Of course, these questions have answers. For most, the complaining originated from a lack of being entertained. Their complaints would receive pushback in the form of Iowa's strong W/L records. So, in turn, the complainers responded that Iowa would have won even more with a better offense. So the whole "better offense" hypothetical complaint was born out of an attempt to justify the "lack of entertainment" complaint. Not real strong.

To further show the level of complaining to have not been warranted; no regrets of having not been elite are even at all a realistic conversation without the program having been very good in the first place. The football program having been consistently good is a credit to KF. Not something to be used against him.

Finally, people who actually had a clue what had happened to the o-line leading into '22, were able to recognize '22 and '23 as a clear outlier that was born out of some bad luck and timing. Throw in an emergency QB in '23, who was the worst QB to take significant snaps at Iowa in at least 40 years, to compliment the worst O-line in at least 40 years, and the fact that fans want to include those outlier seasons as part of some program narrative, is beyond laughable. True fans recognized it as an opportunity to support their team, that had fallen on some bad luck. Unfortuately, there were far too many, who weren't true fans, that "turned" on the Hawks.

Other than the non-entertained consumers, the only other people who give a crap about the "offense cost wins" narrative, are people who are either sensitive to "nepotism", or people who never had the Hawks best interest at heart and were looking for an excuse to "turn" on them.

There are many ways to vent that don't mutilply negativity in the Hawkeye community
God you're the worst

Nor has he given a straightforward follow-up response to people who did answer his question......if he even chooses to respond.
I would feel much more comfortable with a 7-7 game in the 2nd Q, compared to a 21-21 game.

Too much of my time got wasted correcting dumbasses. And honestly, I would assume the reasoning for a 7-7 preference is obvious. Have you guys watched Iowa football in the last 27 years?

I have a hard time believing anyone who says they feel more comfortable with a 21-21 game in the 2nd Q is being honest with themselves, or has a clue how football works. I have a hard time believing that their entertainment needs are not forming that argument.

People have said they are more comfortable in a 21-21 game because they are confident PP will make the proper adjustments. (Easy to say after the way that game went down, btw).

But there is no need for adjustments from PP if the D has only given up 7. Even with confidence in PP's adjustments, having only given up 7 would be a situation that gives me much more reason to believe that the D is going to do its thing in the game.

Only having given up 7 is a scenario where the D will probably be able to sink its teeth into the game. Once that happens, especially with good special teams, it presents many possible ways to win, even with next to zero offensive production.

We saw that Fri. Once the D got its teeth into to the game, it was Iowa's game. It just wasn't as obvious that that was going to happen as it would have been in a 7-7 game.

Basically, Iowa has more control over a 7-7 game, than they do at 21-21.

There are a lot more ways for Iowa to win lower scoring games. Whereas, higher scoring games require the offense to outscore people, even given defensive adjustments.

The below link gives additional commentary on the advantages of lower scoring games for Iowa, for those who haven't been paying attention for 27 years. Post #66 in the link

What's funny about your latest Jerry Maguiresque manifesto is your comment...

"People have said they are more comfortable in a 21-21 game because they are confident PP will make the proper adjustments. (Easy to say after the way that game went down, btw)."

You started this thread on Friday at 9:09 pm when the game was 21-21. So you don't like the fact that others are using what actually happened in the 2nd half of that game to reinforce their position... meanwhile your whole attempted "flex" via this thread when you started it was based on what actually happened in the 1st half. Lol.

And….he makes up scenarios that fit HIS beliefs, when an equal number of scenarios can be provided to support 21-21.

To call people who don’t toe the line to his way of thinking “dumb*sses” “clueless”, and “not knowing how football works” is arrogance and condescension of the highest degree.

He is not the savant he thinks he is. His way isn’t always the best way, and his beliefs aren’t always the right ones. In fact, it is often just the opposite.

He is entitled to his opinions (which he presents as facts). So is everyone else. Just because they are different than his doesn’t make them “dumb*sses”, “clueless”, or that they “don’t know football”.

There was NO attempted flex. How many times do we have to go over this?

How is a simple QUESTION, are you more comfortable at 21-21 or 7-7, a flex?

If I did happen to have been concerned that Iowa was going to lose (I wasn't), it wouldn't have been something I would have taken a bit of satisfaction in, that would have been required for a flex.

No one used the PP adjustments logic until after the game. So like I said, quite convenient.

You are really embarrassing yourself in this thread

I don't mean to be arrogant. A lot of people who are right end up getting called that.

But I absolutely despise certain types of sports fans. You find a lot of them on this board. And I have no problem being condescending or rude to them.

They are bad for Hawkeye athletics and sports in general. They can make it harder for my team to win and I absolutely take it personally

If Iowa is down 10-7 late in the 4th with the worst ranked offense in FBS I have very little confidence they can score to win or tie.

If Iowa is don 45-42 late in the 4th with the 50th ranked offense I feel good about their chance to tie or win.

You keep talking about our D getting their teeth into a game. And you’re right against the Nebraska’s, Minnesota’s, NW’s. But in our really successful years where we won legit bowl games, beating LSU, South Carolina, Florida, etc we also were able to score points. We haven’t been competitive against a top 25 team since that Penn State game that got us up to number 2 in the rankings. It’s been blow out city. Our defense played incredible against Michigan in the B1G championship and we still got blown out. We lost the 1 game we had a chance to make the playoffs against M St because we scored 1 touchdown.

Until a team like ISU who knows PPs tendencies and uses them against him.

ISU runs a side line, Iowa covers and then blows by Sebastian for the catch and they are in FG range for the win.

Don't every want to see that again or hear post game comments from an Iowa defender about how they were tricked using their own tendencies to beat them.

What about when it's inside of 2 minutes, we have the ball, we're losing but a successful final drive would give us the lead with little to no time left on the clock?

I'm talking last possession, final drive and it's Iowa’s ball and they are behind.

Your scenario is just the opposite.

So it's 50/50 based on the scenario.

You've not proved that one score is better over these 2 scenarios to win both.

Yes, we've had plenty of opportunities like the one you describe above, last possession, that could've been Ws with a decent offense.

The defense that he has such confidence in to hold a lead late sure didn’t work out so well against Kentucky and Missouri in bowl games, last year vs. Iowa State, etc. Note that all 3 of those games could have been won if the OFFENSE had been able to pick up a late first down or two, or put together a late scoring drive. There were also games like Minnesota in ‘23 and Iowa State this year where the Hawks had plenty of time to drive into position for a game winning/tying field goal attempt (in the Minnesota game they only needed 15-20 yards), but failed to move the ball. There are others…these are just the ones off the top of my head.

It works both ways. Unfortunately some folks don’t understand that.

And if it was on the defense I don't feel good about them stopping the other team when they know they've now got 4 downs to make a 1st to move the ball.
Yeah @eyesofhawk subscribes to the KF church of crappy offense, taking very few offensive risks, punting and playing field position, and letting the defense and/or special teams bail you out in the end. It's a very effective strategy for winning close, low-scoring games against crappy opponents. But it's also the reason that, any time we get in vs. a good-to-great-to-elite opponent, we get our doors blown off. We don't just lose, we lose embarrassingly bad. And even worse, we already know going into those games that we have zero chance to win.

Has nothing to do with the comparison I made.

But since you brought it up...ISU ran a wheel route vs Castro when Iowa happened to be in "man" coverage.

Iowa is a notorious "zone" team. So no, PP's tendencies were not used against him

If Iowa is down 10-7 late in the 4th with the worst ranked offense in FBS I have very little confidence they can score to win or tie.

If Iowa is don 45-42 late in the 4th with the 50th ranked offense I feel good about their chance to tie or win.
Appreciate the effort to get through to him, and I agree, but psst...he's trolling. Just like 95% of the time.
