Gronowski is a worthy pickup

He's sunshine from Remember the Titans. Can throw the ball a mile, can't make a 3 yard toss.

He’s definitely improving. It’s disappointing that he couldn’t play like this right out of the gate as a 5th year player, but at least he is improving. The goal line pass to Ortwerth was really bad, but other than that he was solid. Connected on a few deep balls too! (Should have had 1 more on the 1st drive when #2 dropped a perfect pass)

When's the last time Iowa had a QB lead 2 TD drives in the 4th quarter against a P 5 team?
This is a great question! Another I was wondering - which is sad - when’s the last time an Iowa QB averaged 10+ yards per attempt vs a P5 opponent?

Less than a year from shoulder surgery, ( I had mine November 1st last year and still not 100% ), learning a new offense with all new players, second road game with rabid sellout crowd, first against # 12 in the country with his #1 RB, TE and WR out. I love watching this kid compete. I can't believe some of the hate in the game thread. I assume half the comments are anonymous ISU and Bugeater losers, but losers none the less, whoever they may be...

Grono took a few games to get settled in but this kid is now hitting his stride and it's only going to get better from here.

He's a winner, flat out winner. I watched him terrorize my USD Coyotes and the rest of FCS for years. Yeah, different level, but he's played in so many win or go home playoff games it's ridiculous.

The kid is a competitor. Oh, and it doesn't hurt he's an actual dual threat QB.

As this season goes I think we'll be very happy fans by the end of the season.

He's not perfect but these comparisons to Deacon Hill, Cade McNamara, etc... were insane.

He still needs to throw earlier at times and accuracy is a problem as well BUT he can throw and he is a willing runner.

I'm glad he's a Hawk.
Actually, after his performance those first couple games, the Deacon/Cade/Spencer compare was warranted. He has a much better OL to work with and he is improving nicely. He had a very good game/Win in a hostel environment. His leadership qualities are definitely something we have been lacking for many years now…😎

I told you guys!
(Sorry, obligatory taking credit for basically nothing anyone cares about!)

I also must mention again the inversely proportional improved O / weaker D phenomenon that I knew was true also.

MG is good, maybe really good.
Howards catch was lucky, but Rutgers (and who or what is a Rutgers?) had SO MANY lucky catches tonight, plus our dumb drops early.

I like the spirit going into Indiana at home.

He still made some plays in the Iowa St. game that was better than Deacon for sure.

Was at the game . Showed a lot of Guts. First drive 2 drops by the WR. Had 2 bad passes, out pattern at the Iowa sideline
first half , Goal line pass way to low. Ran well is very physical . This version of MG we beat ISU . His growth has been amazing
Phil Parker D stepped up in the 2 half, Special Teams very good. Only 2 penalties. This is Iowa football.
Sec. of D.. Phil Parker has to get the secondary to play much better. GO Hawks

Are you saying that we still don't know this:

"comparisons to Deacon Hill, Cade McNamara, etc... were insane."

?

Gonna have to strongly disagree with you here.

We had a Hawkeye QB truly lead his team to victory last night, in a tough game that could have gone either way, when his team really needed him... in a way we haven't seen in years.

The comparisons to Hill, McNamara, etc.. were insane.

Yes there were games with optimism. Iowa played Rutgers. We still may not know next week either.

I’ll admit, I was skeptical. After being down 4 with 9min to play, and winning by 10, is something we have Rarely seen in KF’s tenure. A kid with moxy at QB will go along ways.

Big time kudos to these Hawkeyes.
I agree and have never doubted his moxie, and he obviously is a winner given his accomplishments to-date. Hopefully he will eliminate the WTF passing problems and continue to improve. If he does Iowa will be pretty competitive in most games.

First drive had one drop by Phillips, not two. On the long pass to Anderson over the middle the pass was short and then Anderson was tackled before the ball even arrived. It was a blown PI call.

I’ll reserve judgment for when we play the top competition.

He was not great against ISU

Personally, we should have saved the $ or spent it on other positions. WR, CB

You spend 1-2 million thinking it gets you to playoffs…

Could shock the world but we spent the $ for 6-8 wins

So, I'm not going to disagree with anything you've said here. The reality is that he's not an elite QB, and I'm not even sure that he's an upgrade from Sullivan who was solid at Iowa.

With that said, he has been improving from what was a really awful start. If he can become a consistent game manager that doesn't miss these easy throws, the Hawks can have a good year. I just think everyone needs to adjust their expectations of him going forward. He's not Brad Banks but he might end up being a pretty decent Nate Stanley.
