Our AD is in a tough spot. Forcing out a guy like KFz would be controversial.Talking him into retirement would take some mastery. Letting him stick around as long as he wants could inflict some (further) damage on the football program.

What should her strategy be? What do you think it will be?

Unless the wheels fall off (4 wins or less) I can't see her dismissing him, esp with that buyout.
Tell Kirk to keep his hands off the offense!?!

Its not the lost. It's the fact that we can't pass the football which has been an issue for several years. When we get down by 10 points it feels like 40. We throw money at the problem and the problem continues. The one constant factor is that Kirk does not know how to fix this. Kirk hires the offensive coordinator's. Not sure what qualifies Kirk to hire these guys when he is inept at offense. Kirk needs to be held accountable.

BG has to realize if she let's this go on for another year, the rebuild gets bigger.

Negotiate a settlement and show KF the door.

KF likely doesn't need the $$$.
If he really loves this University, he'll negotiate.
You'ld hope he has the integrity to walk, cause he's not getting to that 60% winning percentage for the HOF with this year's schedule, imo.

I don't think beth goetz is afraid to point out the obvious. He may be fireproof and she may be stuck with him, but it's up to the university administration to decide if his legacy lives on. The longer he stays and runs it into the ground means there's gonna be a lot less parades and statues like Hayden got.

This. Beth can’t fire Kirk. Kirk quits when he wants to. If he cares about the Iowa program, he’ll retire at the end of the year.
We are talking about a guy who employed his incompetent son Fredo as OC and would’ve kept him if not for goetz. He cares about the program but has already showed he and families best interest go first over the sake of the program. He’d coach till he’s 80 if he can. A man with self admitted no real hobbies.

If you think his son was the problem you have a learning disorder

It wasn’t all Brian but it was extremely obvious he had no business being a D1 OC and fact that HC won’t fire a guy after having bottom 5 offense multiple years running cause it’s his son speaks volumes about him. Lester was awful today but even he is an upgrade over boy wonder. My point is KF cares more about himself and will do what’s best for him, not the Iowa program.

Here’s a name Brian Hartline. Maybe that can create a perception Iowa cares about offense so we can recruit skill position players. He can bring a few with him. Yes he may not be a lifer, but he is going to have to elevate the program to get a bigger job and we would be happy with the results at that point.

Maybe hes not the guy but if I’m hiring a coach in this era its helps if they can bring a number of transfers with them.

Assuming I just won the Powerball (haven’t checked) Beth will encourage Kirk to hang it up or be forced out as some donor called them up and offered to foot the whole buyout.

For me...Hayden will always be the better coach. Not because of wins and losses or great players but because he knew people. He knew how to read people and get the best out of them. He could read a room and know what he needed to do next. He had an ego...no doubt. All great coaches do. But he didn't let it get in the way of the team. Kirk loves his guys, but he's too f***ing stubborn

This season is what it is.

Next off-season is where it gets interesting. Kirk won't get an extension unless he makes the Big Ten championship game or the playoff this year. Kirk will have four years left on his contract, and she sends a message that there's no extension coming.

2026 is realistically his last potential season because he's not going to be able to recruit with less than four years under contract.

So he'll have to decide if he wants one more year (2026), or does he pull a late spring retirement as a favor to Wallace, to give him tryout as interim head coach for 2026.

I think he pulls a late spring retirement in 2026, and I think Beth humors him with the 2026 Wallace as interim plan.

For 2025, Beth keeps her short list in the desk drawer unless Kirk unexpectedly announces his retirement after the Nebraska game.

So was Hayden (stubborn). I'm just glad that over the last 46 years I got to witness and experience both!

Puppet??? Is that why she fired his son?

She pushed Fran out, so she knows how to handle her business.
Fran got pushed out because people stopped coming to games. Kirk isn't going anywhere as long as 60k+ keep showing up at Kinnick. The fan base has created this perpetual purgatory.

I hope we go outside the program. Honestly don’t think Wallace or woods are worth it. Feel like we can do better than those 2. Parker be one real loss if coaching staff departs. Even if have mass transfer there aren’t too many guys I’m like we can’t lose. Epenesa is one but like b-ball with Koch I think as a legacy he stays. 2 attractive qualities Iowa has for potential candidates are patience and stability. Where unlike sec or blue bloods you’ll get some more time.

What if ISU is actually the 16th ranked team. What if that tipped pass is intercepted instead of falling right into the hands of an ISU receiver?

What if it's not the end of the world?

What if Iowa is where Iowa always is?

First, great question. Second, if you're an AD anywhere, resolving such situations is exactly what you're being paid for. So if you can't handle it, find another job.

Second, Beth showed Brian Ferentz the door.

Third, Beth showed Fran McCaffrey the door.

So the evidence suggests she can, and will, make the tough calls. But working out a deal with KF after he has the Big Ten record for wins, after his 27th season, after he's failed time and time and time again to upgrade the offense, after his various issues with rhabdo, the allegations of racism, naming his totally unqualified son as OC and QB coach and forcing Beth to get rid of him . . . Add the challenges of the new Big Ten and KF's inability to recognize the value of QB play and of scoring points and the likelihood of a 4-8 season . . .

The facts clearly and loudly demand that KF retire at the end of this season. Any decent AD would have sent him packing after 2014. Eleven years later, with the entire country continuing to mock the old man's ancient approach to offense, it's long past time. Tell him it's his choice: retire gracefully after nearly three decades, or I'll have no choice but to fire you. Your call.

Kirk stays as long as he wants to. It's whether or not he feels as though it's time to step down. I think as time goes on, I think the game is starting to pass him by. But Beth won't push Kirk out.
You're delusional. I realize kings and dictators are popular with many these days, but it's BS. KF isn't the Iowa football program. He has a duty to do his job, and he hasn't done it for years and years, continuing to put a laughingstock of "quarterbacks" and "offenses" on the field. You tell him he gets to choose: retire or get fired.

We lost to a top 20 team on the road by 3 with our top receiver, TE and RB out. I assume this is a troll thread by non Iowa fans...
You shouldn't assume anything, and especially not that, because we're not talking one game, we're talking the last many years that KF has refused to find a decent QB and has refused to play a modern offense that includes competent use of the forward pass, among many, many other things.

I feel like we've had this same conversation since even before Beth became AD, with Gary Barta as well, no? I understand as it's a coping mechanism with what we have to endure with KF, but of everything, do we really think KF will go anywhere unless he decides it so?

We're shellacked to the man, good or bad, until the bitter end.

Where are you finding the money for that? The athletic dept has tens of millions of loans to pay back along with 20 million per year in player salaries now. Donors are being asked to fund salaries beyond that number.

Starting to pass him by? Really?
The game passed him by two exits ago. It’s only by the grace of Phil Parker that we’ve had a meaningful win in the last 10 years.
