Regional soccer tourney starts next week.
With weather effecting district championships, we turn our attention to Regionals-
I'm wondering what the matchups are and when they are played.

Anybody know?

Lancaster is matched up with the worst team in the 12 man tourney, Surry. Lancaster should win easily. Any NND team would beat them by 5 or more goals.

No disrespect to them, just it is what it is.

LHS will face West Point next. Good luck!

What about the rest of the tourney? What are the seeds? Who plays who, etc. Appreciate the LHS info.

So I guess Surry ARGS not going to be played thus knocking Wnl out due to the Essex game not being made up and Chincoteague beating and tieing Greenbrier Christian

This is what I have as of now - so not official yet should be accurate - not sure on the W&L/Chincoteague situation for the final seed. As of now I have W&L as 12th but it may have changed. Hard to find out what goes on on the Eastern Shore sometimes.

Thanks for the info.
Although i realize why, its interesting that Middlesex is a #3 and Lancaster Tied them. And Northumberland is a #6 and Lancaster had a 2-0-1 record against the indians. I'm not complaining, because i'd rather play Surry, but its interesting how the power points work, etc.

All these games Wednesday and Friday?

All good questions.

1) 1st round home for higher seed on Wednesday - winners travel on Friday to top 4 seeds who have a 1st round bye

2) Middlesex won a lot more games than Lancaster. Their big win in OT over # 2 West Point helped alot. Of course, they got 4 wins against Carver and Charles City...Sorry, but Charles City should not even count as a Varsity game. Middlesex beat them 21-0.

3) Northumberland won more games than Lancaster and played more higher level teams. I can assure you, Northumberland would love to play Lancaster one more time....1st must win the other tough ones which will all be battles except for the Surry game (8-0 most likely).

NHS and LHS are SOOOO close in talent. Almost identical. Tough that someone has to lose when they play one another.

21-0? Not sure what Middlesex tried to prove there, but that was totally unnecessary.

Surry and ARGS did not play.

ARGS beat them 10-0 1st time and they are really bad. I wish they would have played as Surry may have been 11.

Who do y'all like advancing to the 2nd round?

Mathews should defeat Franklin.

Rapp is going to be tough to beat for anyone. Only Galax from the West may do it. Of course, there are always upsets....

and that's why you play the game.

Sorry to W&L. Not playing the 2nd Essex regular season cost them a spot in the playoffs.

If W&L had won (the Eagles won the 1st contest at Essex), Essex would have been knocked out.

W&L would have had a good shot of beating # 5 Windsor.

Chincoteague is now the 12th seed. They are nice folks - great school at the top of the Eastern Shore.

This brings me to an important point - now that the playoffs are based on records, teams must play the 16 games that they agree to play before the season begins.

Two teams on the schedule refused to play or reschedule Northumberland this season. NHS was heavily favored in one game and hoped to win the 2nd. One team refused to come to one of our home games on an 84 degree, sunny day. We had refs and concessions.

Yet, they did not forfeit which it definitely was as they had no reason other than they didnt want to travel..

Both times, the team refusing to play benefited at Northumberland's expense. NHS could have ended up in the top three.

These issues need to be addressed before next season for all sports.

Or go back to the way it was when districts meant something.

Yeah I believe a set amount of games needs to be played by all teams/ good number would be 12 and all 12 must be played to qualify for playoffs unless some crazy reason the game can not be played.

I hate to say this but this year's Rappahannock is not as good as previous strong RHS teams. I wouldn't be surprised to see them "upset" in the regional tournament .Probably in the championship game .
Just my opinion after watching them twice when they played LHS. West Point or Middlsex wouldn't surprise me with the win .

Now that I've given RHS some bulletin board material, they could very well make me a liar. Which would be fine. GO NND!!!!

Can't wait to get it started

Rapp Raiders went 8-0 in the NND and outscored their opponents 36-5.

Rapp went 4-0 against the Tidewater and outscored their opponents 20-4.

The NND and Tidewater (I could easily argue) have the two best overall soccer districts in the state (not including CC from the Tidewater).

The only teams that came close to beating Rapp from the NND and Tidewater were Northumberland (1-0) and Middlesex (2-1).

Rapp recently defeated power Northampton 4-0 on the Eastern Shore.

Mathews is the only team to score 3 goals against them this season. They've made a change at goalie and it seems to add a spark to the other players. Not going to say they'll beat Rapp, but there's no doubt they won't go down easy.
