Looks like an active situation unfolding. Shooting at a Catholic school during Mass, mainly a school for young children 8 and under.

Shooter is dead but unconfirmed reports of Children who were shot and injured.

Dont know how a person could ever do that, may the shooter rot in hell.

Prayers for the kids and Families and no fatalities.

They're saying shooter is contained and not been taken out. Terrible situation. As a parent of 3 at a Catholic school this makes me want to cry. I can't even imagine what those poor kids and parents are going through.

Reports of 20+ dead.

I was going to post about it too, but you beat me to it.

As a mass going Catholic I believe in the efficacy of prayer. I also believe in doing stuff to prevent preventable tragedies. I know our country isn't willing to do that though. First week of school and we already have one actual incident plus hoaxes at universities across the country. I have words to say but they would only increase enmity so I'll keep them to myself. Mary Mother of Mercy pray for us.

I'm with you. When is enough enough?

May those who were killed Rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.

Nothing changed after Columbine. Nothing changed after Newton. Nothing changed after Stoneman-Douglas. Nothing changed after Uvalde. Nothing changed after Charleston. Nothing changed after Highland Park. I know I'm forgetting others too
The mayor had a powerful line...basically said "don't make this about thoughts and prayers. these kids were literally praying in a church."

I lost all hope after Sandy Hook. We let a maniac walk into a classroom and slaughter 6-year-old children and did nothing about it.

Pleasantly startled by the replies in this thread. Maybe it's early and the worm will turn when more people log on. It's long been time for material and impactful changes in this country with regards to gun violence and mass shootings.

I can't imagine what those kids and families will have to deal with in the days and decades ahead of them. As a teacher married to a teacher with two small kids, I pray we never have to endure one of these incidents head on as a family.

I daydream about this feared scenario way too often when sitting with our family in Mass.

Gut-wrenching.

Motive could be any number of things, so best to wait for more info before making any reaching judgments.

My two cents, and it's nothing more than a single opinion, is that this becomes one side yelling at guns and the other yelling at people. The answer probably lies in some of both, and nothing will be done to reduce these events until both sides concede ground in an effort to do everything possible to reduce the violence here.

Agree, unfortunately no one is willing to let teachers, principals and staff carry to defend themselves.
yep my grandma and mama who probably made $30K a year and had to buy their own school supplies every year were definitely qualified for Jason Bourne training. good call.

amazing to me that we had dozens of cops sitting outside the doors in Uvalde pissing down their legs while shots rang out over and over but we still think "good guys with guns" is the issue here.

No, sorry, that’s an insane response. Teachers are over worked and under paid. And you want them to carry firearms in a classroom? You want teachers to potentially shoot and kill someone? What on earth is wrong with you

This is true. But we have leadership in this country that wants to do nothing about firearms and also wants to remove access to mental health care.

Sadly, it's a lot like that Simpsons meme where they say "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas."

Yeah I’m thinking about the women in their 60s who taught me in kindergarten, or the girls fresh out of college and the moms I worked with. We want them to confront a homocidal shooter? Come on

With all due respect, what would you suggest intelligent and ethical people do to remedy this situation when the same side that claims this phenomenon is just about mental illness repeatedly votes down mental health initiatives? Sorry, but the both sides talk here doesn't pass the smell test.

These are innocent children being slaughtered. Let's call a spade a spade here and not mince words. The same people who think it's just a coincidence that America is the only industrialized nation with more guns than citizens also don't put their money where their mouth is when it comes to prioritizing mental health.

Both sides-ism is an absolute cancer. One side is absolutely open to dealing with both the gun issue and the mental health issue. The side that insists guns are not a problem at all and we should only treat it as a mental health also refuse to do anything about the mental health problem.

there’s only one side that throws up their hands every time this happens, says nothing can be done and it shouldn’t be “politicized” and then sends oh so effective thoughts and prayers and then forgets about it.

All these "arm the teachers" people all think they're John Wayne. News flash, they're not. And their life isn't an action movie.

My wife is a teacher, and has also had a CWP permit and is an excellent shot. She has said repeatedly that she would never carry in a school even if it were allowed.

It's an insane idea.

Why don't you educate as to why Republicans voted against this ridiculous bill? Or are you so simple as to believe that if a bill is named something, that must be what it is? Perhaps it's best to read what's in there to understand it? Republicans weren't against providing assistance with mental health services. They were against the trial lawyer boondoggle this bill could have created and several other factors which neither side was willing to negotiate.

Further, we can't legislate our way out of the sickness we have in our country. This is a reflection of the culture in the United States. It's about how we raise our children and the crap we expose them to. It's about the total lack of eternal moral truths which are foundational to any successful society. It's about so much more than anyone wants to talk about because avoidance of reality is the name of the game these days.

If people are as sick and twisted as you say then we should make it harder for them to access firearms. Also some irony since you too are avoiding the reality because you don’t like it.

I absolutely detest the condescending attitude one side takes. “Oh you think we can make the world a better place? You fool! You idiot!”
