Overall, they looked alright. The team's best aspect is its QB play. I don't like to admit it, because I think Becht is a weird looking twink, but he's a good QB. He doesn't have what it takes to be elite, but he's above average and has shown the ability to win in tough situations. Sometimes lacks pocket awareness. He was responsible for two key turnovers, with a possible third if KState's DB didn't drop one that was delivered to his bread basket.
WR's took a step back, whether their fans and media want to admit it or not. RB's were more or less a non factor for 3/4's of the game. Their OLine was the glaring flaw on their supposed "amazing" on offense.
Personally, I think their OLine's success in the 4th came more so from KState's defense being gassed/selling out on the pass. All game the pass was the only success Iowa State had. I think KState thought they'd continue to just pass, and they weren't ready for some key run plays from Hansen.
Defense looked alright. Some pretty brutal mistakes from their secondary which resulted in TD's. Some of KState's best plays in the first three quarters were run plays, so I don't think they're an elite run defense.
A lot of KState's issues came from untimely turnovers and outright bad play calling. I think this was a coinflip game that either team could win on a given day. Iowa State is no pushover, but they're the easiest ranked team on our schedule. If we want to have a good season, beating them soundly is required.
I have no worries about their run game, or them stopping our run game. The key to beating the Cyclones is rattling their QB. They live and die by Rocco's performance. Look for our DLine to disrupt and rush him into bad decisions. That will be the key. Our OLine and run game are good enough to score on their defense. But if Mark is at minimum a reliable passing threat, Iowa has a chance to win comfortably in Ames. But if the defense can't get to their QB or our secondary is weaker than we'd hope, it'll be a dogfight until the very end.
