Subway is pretty much dog food. That being said - I'm not sure why some people here rave about Tastee. Most of the meats are likely from the same group of distributors as everywhere else (i.e. Hormel, Tyson, Dietz & Watson, Boars Head), the menu (below) is mundane and they have bins of pre-sliced lettuce, tomatoes and onions like everywhere else and IMO the bread is just OK (note that I grew up in Essex county with some of the best Italian breads). I've only been to Jersey Mike's a couple times for fundraisers for my son's soccer team but not sure there is that wide of a gap between them and Tastee.
By comparison - we've catered from an emerging chain, Primo Hoagies a few times at work and the selection, subs and sandwiches are much better than Tastee. You can get things like Chicken Cutlets, Fresh Mozz, Roasted Peppers, Sharp Provolone, Sopprassetta, Prosciutto and Broccoli Rabe....none of which are at Tastee.
Personally - when I have the choice, my preference is to go to small / Italian deli's rather than any sub shop, chain or not as they have their own special twist on subs and bring much better choices such as Fresh Mozz, Roasted Peppers and imported meats.
