I get a lot of flack from Charlotte guys talking about Hough. You think Myers Park was bad. Hough had a better recruiting class then most Mid-Majors.
Steelers its not the coach at all. Those same Harding players won 1 game, and the season after he left the new coach 1 game or so with Crouch before he shut the season down. And they won it small 4A vs. A scotland team minus Zamir. So context is needed.

WC is not exactly a place recruiting typically occurs. At least traditionally. Isn't Greiner the coach at WC?
Greiner is the coach. He's a great coach. Just from a basic knowledge of CMS, WC is a school that's not full and losing students. They lose more football players than they gain in most years. So any student in CMS can attend WC if they provide their on transportation if they are out of the residency district. They have been open to IB students for at least 5 years for grades 9-11 so its a very easy school to get into legally if you wanted to attend.
That's why I say its a 12th grader new to the school that's in question. They likely had already established a sports school so the only way they could attend and play at WC was for them to move into their attendance residency zone and make WC their "home school". If not they would be ineligible for 365 but could attend the school. Therein lies the problem. After the season is over and the smoke clears said player/players feel relaxed and chills at true home and gets caught. Then the backtracking starts.
If WC had issues as easy as it is to get in prior to the 12th grade and with their checks and balances system the rest of CMS better be on high alert.

Remember when WC forfeited their 1996 or 1997 season? Everyone went crazy pointing fingers. Player had been at WC for his freshman and sophomore school years on the IB program. He was instructed by his academic advisor that he would be better to drop from the IB program and go into the standard classes to improve his GPA for college options. He did as instructed. At the time CMS had just put a new computerized registry system in place so the change was not caught by the AD that checked the records. Per CMS rule he was changing "schools" due to leaving the IB program as he did not live in the WC district. This required the student to set out of athletic competitions for 365 days. He could have set out and stayed at WC or he could have returned to his home district school and played sports on day one. When it happened I had never even heard of him but due to CMS rules he was ineligible and they forfeited the season which included two losses to Richmond.
The AD had been the national AD of the year. He resigned. Guy was crushed.
Not saying 2021 is anything like that one but I am saying there is often no malicious intent on anyone's part. It is often a "perfect storm" and just happens. You are talking about a school that is probably 90% government subsidized meals with a huge amount of students from very non traditional households. I can only imagine what any urban schools went through the last two years with COVID and the school attendance regulations.
The difference between CMS and other districts now and in 2008 will be the current administration is going to put a lot of emphasis on this and that includes utilzing CMS Police to investigate and even following students or setting outside their homes. After seeing the investigative reports from 2007-2008 a school superintendent from one of the largest systems in NC said that any system under that scrunity would find issues.

I think parents move to Charlotte due to economic factors. Some may be delusional while others may be right to think that the move will help their child get to the next level. I think every situation is different and it up to the parent to do what is the best for their family although I often wonder how the family even survives.
Parents are normally the biggest issue. Parents "recruit" themselves meaning Johnny is an All American when in reality Johnny is not on the all neighborhood team. Kids "recruit" kids. Coaches do not have to do that much. If they have a winner that is moving players to the next level it is not as much about going after the potential player as weeding out what you get.
There is a lot of legalities involved with investigations, actual residency, and children's well being. That is both civil and federal complexities.

As Btango mentioned WC is a little different than most highschools as the school is IB and not a full school for transfers per CMS. So as he said a player could be eligible 9th, 10th, 11th, and drop IB and thus become ineligible for 365 Or attended as a transfer student and enroll in IB and become ineligible. Or possibly was caught riding the CMS bus to the school as a transfer. So it could not be a clear cut residency issue, but possibly a student changing between programs or transportation issue. As mentioned above attending WC legally 9-11 grade is rather easy even if not in their attendance zone.

Most of the world’s problems (and especially in education) are because of adults.
Agree as everyone not a child is an adult. Sports have become a badge of honor for parents now. My my my , and me me me. The team concept has been diminished and only winning at all cost and scholarships matter. Dont parents realize to play ANY level of college football is less than 10%, and D1 is less than 3%? But they transfer schools, recruit players, spend on travel/training. Over zealous parents are killing sports.
Kids are kidnapped at camps and among other ways. The truth is the illegal recruiting is now bleeding in one place and that's Charlotte.

Because the NCHSAA is now cracking down on WHAT NOT TO DO, some schools may no longer look identical to a small college size group from here forward.....
Illegal recruiting at camps takes place everywhere. Greensboro, Raleigh and other places are no exception.

Combination of things. The new AD certainly has expressed an open door to the parents that are constantly turning in information. She has said she is going to look into things brought to her attention.
In the case of Myers Park that new principal was put in specifically to turn things around because of the sexual assaults. Currently he is not going to overlook anything that would make MP look bad, especially a house full of out of state athletes whose parents are nowhere to be found.

Now it has trickled to the NCAA level with the transfer portal. Kid has to sit and earn his PT, doesn't feel like he got treated right, or was slept on, or it was a "toxic situation", and Boom the transfer on out. Some kids were enrolled in new Universities prior the end of the fall semester at their previous school. That's crazy to me. It would be interesting to see how many in the portal played at more then one HS. Just to evaluate for any correlation.
The new AD is open to communication no doubt. What happens is when you put a mouse trap out it catches mice, rats, ants, roaches, spiders. There will be more to come. Again think the WC issue may be residency issue with a new 12th grader or an internal IB transfer. Its too easy to get into WC legally as opposed to other schools.
NCHSAA is not cracking down. These are self reported. MP, Hough, Chambers are transfer central. Expect more news.

The NCHSAA is not cracking down. CMS is cracking down. Zero communication from NCHSAA on investigating anyone. ZERO. NCHSAA provided guidance on rules and penalties after CMS brought the info to them.
Personally, I think it is a bit of a cop out to go after schools coming off the pandemic years. It was a complete cluster with some systems not even having in person class the majority of the school year. There were students that moved out of state and still went to school on line at their NC school.
This fall would have been a good time to put an emphasis on residency and really get after it.
I think this AD is more apt to take action. I think we will find that they will go after some that meet the requirements to be there but it will be a process and the student/athlete will suffer.
I hope it doesn't get that far. I think that there is an over reach of government. The time spent sitting outside a kid's home to see if he's going to the right school could be better spent investigating crime.
Agree to an extent. There is definitely a bias in the investigation into athletics when it involves football and basketball. When is the last time you heard of any player being ruled ineligible in any other sports or programs? Football does have more numbers, but even comparatively speaking football gets hit the most and the most attention. Residency moves for academics are far more prevalent IMHO.
How do you police parents and their choices? The schools get penalized. Think the first thing to do is review the transfer/residency process. Not sure how much lega address checking can be done, but maybe a database to serach for multiple students at one address, basic name/address checks, and random spot checks like random NFL drug test. You simply cant target a school or player. If info provided on the snitch line have it reviewed.
I've heard numerous kids recently getting 365 in the Raleigh area. Not very familiar with how they do things there. In Charlotte with social media, and the majority of kids all knowing each other, through youth leagues and parents talking. Coaches doing there on investigations. Not a lot to investigate. It's already out there. People believe it's a breaking story when it comes out in the Charlotte News, or a local news channels tells the story. Parents will give you detailed information for free. They'll be some other programs getting popped, and high profile players moving around to other schools. You really don't have to set outside someone's house to find out this information.
There's over 1000 alleged trainers in Charlotte. People are obsessed in this area about Football. Regardless of how people feel about what going on in the area. You'll have to go through Charlotte to win the 4A State Championship. It's not changing in the near future,

Now CMS should conduct a thorough inspection of Charlottes "normal way of life's" Ideology and/or behavior that has been allowed, accepted, and ignored all together for ages.
If CMS follows through with every school, that little college look in Charlotte will no longer exist.
